Fifth floor common room [early afternoon]

Rilla and Jims, dressed in their Easter best, had returned from church on the mainland and were now in the common room. They (well, Rilla. Jims was only so helpful) unloaded an enormous hamper of food that Susan had sent from Ingleside. Despite Rilla being at school for three years, nothing could convince Susan that Yankees knew the first thing about cooking.

So there were hot cross buns and pies and cakes and cookies while Rilla was starting on some eggs and tea and Jims was trying to fit himself into the now-empty hamper.

Have some Easter brunch, everyone! Rilla promises not to check to see if you attended a service.

"With great hunger comes great reasoning," Jessica joked.

"With great hunger, you should probably even help out with a second piece," Maddie pointed out.

"I also had some eggs that Rilla made," Jessica said. "So the hunger is less great than it was to start with."

"So it's moderate hunger," Maddie said.

"Once great, now middling, soon to be gone," Jessica decided.

"Well, now I have great hunger, so at least we can keep the cycle going," Maddie decided.

"Until you've finished some of the great cake, at least," Jessica said. "Then the cycle ends."

"And with great cake comes great exercise later on," Jessica continued.

Maddie shook her head. "With great exercise come great excuses."

"And that's where we differ, my friend," Jessica said. "If I'm not getting my daily workout in, I'm kind of bored."

"Really? I do it a few times a week-" As long as she still had a body, she was willing to treat it right. "-but there's something to be said for laziness."

"I get twitchy. I spend enough time reading and at work, so I need to get out and do something nice and active regularly," Jessica said.
