The Roof : Monday Afternoon

It wasn't raining this weekend so Theo decided to go outside, check out some parts of the dorm he hadn't seen before. He'd seen the deck on his way back from classes but he hadn't gone to the roof yet. There wasn't anything else on and he figured maybe this would give Dev and Ange something new and exciting to argue about.

...not that he wanted them to argue but sometimes their arguments got repetitive and boring. And no one ever won their arguments which meant it was even worse.

It wasn't too warm when Theo got to the roof and the sun was peeking out from behind a few errant clouds. It was quiet and he could see most of the town. It was such a small place compared to Santa Monica.

Maybe tomorrow he'd go skateboarding. Just as Theo started to relax, Dev started urging Theo to go find some water balloons to drop off the side of the roof. It was tempting, Theo had to admit, but he didn't want to get punched in his first month here. With his luck, he'd drop a balloon on a teacher or something.

Plus, he didn't have any balloons. So, Ange won that argument by default and Dev was sulking in his head now. It was always a party inside Theo's mind.

"Does it help with the brooding?" Theo wondered. "Have some special qualities to help with that?"

"Maybe it's the air?"

"It's different here than in their room or out in town?" It didn't seem different but he wasn't really brooding either.

"You never know." No, Tony. No. "Maybe a study needs to be done on it."

"How would you study that?" Theo wasn't terrible at science but he couldn't see how you'd get samples of air.

"It'll be a learning experience." Ange nodded.

"It'll be BORING!" Dev exclaimed, scowling.

"Can you even take samples of air?"

"Of course." He was Tony Freaking Stark. "I'd just need to bring equipment up here with me."

"You already have the equipment?"

He didn't know Tony Stark, obviously.

"Well, yeah." That was totally normal. "I, uh, kind of do this sort of stuff for a living."

"For a living?" Theo frowned a bit. "Didn't you say you just graduated? And you already got a job?"

Man, he was never going to do anything that fast.

"Just contract work right now." See? Totally not weird. "To pay for school and a company start up."

"Wow, I feel so inadequate," Theo said, laughing and shaking his head. "I can barely work a microwave and you're talking about starting a company."

Ange would probably love Tony. In fact, she did as evidenced by her constant stream of chattering in his head right now.

"Microwaves are hard," Tony assured him oh so seriously.

"They really aren't but I appreciate the sentiment all the same," Theo told him, shaking his head. "I'd say toasters are harder but I can't cook so what do I know?"

"That's why take out food was invented."

"True but what happens when you're money runs out?" Theo asked. "Do the take out places here take lint as payment?"

"Then you're forced to rely on the kindness of strangers."

"I don't even know if the take out's good here," Theo pointed out. "Is there anything I should stay away from when it comes to that?"

"They're all pretty good," Tony admitted. "And sometimes they deliver too much. People just put it in the common rooms to eat."

Theo's stomach rumbled and Dev immediately jumped on that.

"Food! Food food food food food!"

It was so loud that Theo winced and rubbed at the side of his head. "Talking about food before I've eaten is almost as bad as going shopping when you're hungry. It's sad that all I've got is gum in my room."

"I can order a pizza if you want to share." Because it was the food of the gods.

"Would they bring it to the roof?" Theo glanced over the edge like he'd see some easy way for a pizza to get it up here. "Is that a thing they do?"

"Well." Huh. "We could see if they can toss it up here maybe?"

"That seems unlikely." They were pretty high off the ground. "Unless the guy's got a great arm and great aim. I'm pretty sure I couldn't toss a pizza up this high and keep it intact."

"A system of pulleys?" The sad thing was that Tony could probably get that built in the time spent delivering said pizza.

"You think you could do that in like the half hour it takes for a pizza to get here?" Theo asked, uncertain. "That seems like a lot of work."

Again, he didn't know Tony Stark.

At least they weren't in a cave. With a box of scraps.

"Well, it would just be a prototype. Not the prettiest thing around..."

"You're really being serious," Theo said, eyebrows going up. "You think you could do it?"

Tony laughed, rubbing the back of his neck. "Yeah. Yeah, I could. Stop by Stark Industries sometime this week if you want a real one."

"If you're being serious, which I think you are, it's no wonder you're already lining up job offers."

Theo didn't think he'd get that lucky.

"That's pretty awesome."

"It's just... stuff I'd be doing even if I didn't get paid for it," Tony insisted.

"We were still dissecting things back in my science class at home," Theo told him, shrugging. "It's impressive."

"He's a nerd." Dev wasn't one to pull punches.

"He is not," Ange insisted, shaking her head. "He sounds like a very smart boy. Theo should take note."

"Theo should run away before we both fall asleep."

"Trust me."

That got him to make a face. "Yeah, I'm not so hot on biology. Give me a computer or machine and I'm happy."

"Yeah, my class ended up...throwing the frogs at each other. A more scientific version of a food fight, I guess," Theo said, smiling at the memory. "Not the best use of our time. But, probably more fun than dissecting frogs."
