So, Kathy's grand plan to go trick-or-treating in the dorms to meet people had kind of been a bust, but an important discovery had been made nevertheless: Theo had never seen Mister What.

Not a single episode. Hadn't even heard of the show. On the eve of the fiftieth anniversary, even!

The very idea was shocking, but Kathy was there to make it right. She couldn't let her favorite wallflower buddy continue to wallow in cultural ignorance forever! So, she'd hooked up her laptop to the TV in the third floor common room, where she had every episode from the new run (and a bunch of the old) torrented TOTALLY LEGALLY OBTAINED on her external hard drive.

The amount of food she'd gotten from the Chinese place in town was ridiculous, but the delivery guy hadn't seemed too fussed about it and the price was about what she'd figured, so she just shrugged and hauled it up, spreading it on the counter. Hopefully the smell of General Tso's Chicken and the distinctive noise of Mister What's time and space machine would lure other people to coming around, too.

[For one, but totally open! Food and episodes completely moddable]

Kathy loved Halloween. It was the one night of the year back home when she could pretend to be anything other than quiet, bookish Kathy and become someone loud, exciting, and colorful. Even here, where she was doing a semi-okay job of that by herself, Halloween remained the best holiday ever.

Which was why she had put on a pair of mouse ears, a silly outfit, and whiskers made of eyeliner and grabbed a pillowcase.

She was going to go trick or treating around the dorms, dammit. There was candy falling outside. No one had the right to complain about not having any candy.

...And hopefully not regret this too much tomorrow, after the sugar crash and resulting embarrassment kicked in.

[Open for anyone who wants to join her on her rounds, make fun of her for being a dork, or to have trick or treaters hitting up their room! Express permission given to anyone who wants to mod Kathy knocking on their door.]

With Yancy visiting, Raleigh found himself thinking maybe he should be treating his big brother to breakfast. And, since he wasn't exactly culinary talented, this amounted to digging out boxes of cereal and pop-tarts.

Hey, if it worked, it worked.

He rubbed at his eyes, clearing away sleep as he waited for his own pop-tart to pop. Yancy could get his own when he woke up. Raleigh was an amazing little brother, see?

Cecil didn't have any classes today, so he was splitting his time between writing passionate e-mail messages to ♥Carlos♥, walking around a lot, and feeding Foucault. Who seemed to need an awful lot of food, but he supposed that was normal for a growing...well, whatever he was.

At the moment, he was in the common room, trying to scrounge fish and shrimp, since Carlos had suggested Foucault looked closest to a flamingo, and the little guy did seem to like the stuff. Foucault was waddling and flapping about the counter, squeaking adorably.

As much as Raven enjoyed watching modern television (and there was so much of it to watch!), she'd found herself missing the old days of listening to the radio. She and Charles used to listen to all the old radio plays when they were little, right after Raven first came to live with him, usually followed by some positively epic games of Pretend on the Xaviers' massive estate (Raven was very good at playing pretend). So she'd been thrilled to discover podcasts, especially the one that claimed to be the favorite "new time podcast in the style of old time radio". Sure, she didn't always get all the jokes, and she had no idea who any of the stars they announced were, but the stories brought her right back to her childhood.

Plus, it was much easier to flip through fashion magazines and shopping websites while she listened, which was what she was up to, now, stretched out on the couch with her feet up, all while listening to the adventures of absurd war heroes and space cowboys.

[ooc: iiiit's a common room post! Raven is, naturally, listening to The Trilling Adventure Hour.]

Natalie was getting a little wistful. Her room was all packed up apart from what she was still intending to use today and tomorrow before leaving all this behind. Truth be told it almost didn't even feel like her room anymore. Maybe that was part of the reason why she was choosing to spend some of her evening in the common room. But it wasn't the entire reason. There was nostalgia in there too. This was going to be her last night in the dorms. And after two years, that felt weird.

But she was making blueberry pancakes. At her feet, Mr. Moxy was batting a ball around. Things were okay.

And there was enough maple syrup to share.

[ooc: Open! Going to bed at reasonable hours is for people whose RL classes have already started. And I'm not one of those.]

Theo was pretty pleased that he'd managed to finish another semester without going out of his mind. Mitchell would have been proud of him if he was still around. Theo smiled at the thought as he took a seat outside of his bouncy castle and stretched his legs out.

Summer would be over soon and a new set of classes beginning but for now, Theo was free to do whatever he wanted. Ange and Dev were already shooting rapidfire suggestions at him (study, sunbathing, reading, swimming) which left Theo with the task of choosing what to do.

For now, he guessed he'd chosen sunbathing since he was outside and didn't have a book or anything to study with unless you counted his phone but he was using that to play some random game that Thom had recommended. Maybe later he'd go to the library.

If Dev had anything to say about it, he wouldn't. Ange was fighting a losing battle right now.

Alec wasn't really a huge common room person, but... well. There was a documentary about werewolves on. And as it turned out, Alec didn't really have it in him to get up and walk away when he saw wrong information being distributed. On the contrary, he felt it was his personal duty to sit there with his sandwich lying forgotten on his plate as he stared at the TV and pronounced, "Wrong. Wrong. That's wrong."

It was, in case you did not know, wrong.

So it looked like Alec was going to be too stubborn to get off the couch tonight. Because wrong.

"You should put sunscreen on, Theo."

"It isn't that hot," Dev complained, holding a hand up to his eyes like he was actually exposed to the sun. "A little sun can do him some good!"

"Or it could permanently harm his skin!" Ange argued back, scrolling through a few pieces of paper that she had in her hands. "I've read up on human illnesses caused by the sun. They're not good."

Dev groaned loudly. "You act like Theo's going to stand naked in the sun for hours on end! He's not! And he's already ghostly! This could make him not almost be see through!"

Theo groaned and dropped his face in his hand. It was one thing when Ange and Dev argued, it was another when they argued and criticized him. Sure, he knew they didn't mean and there was nothing malicious about it but not now he was going to be paranoid about how pale he was. He looked down at one of his arms and frowned. It didn't look that bad to him. He was pale but it could be worse.

Couldn't it?

Theo sighed and let his head thump back against the chair he'd taken a seat in. Even if he wanted to put on sunscreen, he couldn't because he didn't have any. He'd come outside to hopefully get some fresh air and maybe relax but apparently Ange and Dev had other ideas.

Theo was just going to close his eyes and try and tune them out. It was pretty hot but it wasn't unbearable. They could fight and he'd try and not to listen even if he knew he'd inevitably be pulled into the argument somehow.

That was how it worked.

Theo had spent a long, long time in the shower after his class. It'd taken awhile for the dye to completely come off his skin and out of his hair and once it had, the water was a gross mixture of colors that went down the drain, hopefully to never be seen again.

Class combined with the long shower and the heat he'd been in during class had pretty much drained Theo so he plodded into the common room, hair still wet from the shower, and flopped down. Ange was talking worriedly in his head, trying to make Theo go to the nurse for possible heat exhaustion.

Theo ignored her and turned on the television. He kicked his feet up so he could sprawl a little more comfortably and started flipping through channels to find something that wouldn't require too much thinking to watch.

His brain was fried. Of course, Ange told him that was physically impossible. Theo continued to ignore her. Maybe one day, he'd teach her about slang.

Victor had planned to stay on his sleeping mat today and read, but he gave up on that idea the third time he accidentally put too much weight on one elbow, rolled off to the left, and watched his book bounce to the right. Living in a moonbounce sounded like a lot more fun until you tried to do it, he reflected after he chased down the book and crawled out into the sun.

Once he was outside the tent, Victor plopped himself on a rock and stared into the firepit with the book balanced on one knee. He was trying to decide whether it was too early (and he was too lazy) to start a fire or whether tracking down a bunch of firewood and lighting it up was his duty as a camper.

Snow had lived in a castle most of her life. Just not an inflatable one. She was worried about puncturing the strange material it was made out of, so she was very careful about not bringing anything sharp inside as she claimed a corner as her own.

Fortunately, she did know how to light a fire. It wasn't cold out, but the light it provided was nice, and she felt more comfortable sitting outside rather than inside, not just because of the weirdness of the bouncy castle, but just because she could be outside.

She idly poked at the small fire with a stick, then leaned back to look up at the stars.

It wasn't raining this weekend so Theo decided to go outside, check out some parts of the dorm he hadn't seen before. He'd seen the deck on his way back from classes but he hadn't gone to the roof yet. There wasn't anything else on and he figured maybe this would give Dev and Ange something new and exciting to argue about.

...not that he wanted them to argue but sometimes their arguments got repetitive and boring. And no one ever won their arguments which meant it was even worse.

It wasn't too warm when Theo got to the roof and the sun was peeking out from behind a few errant clouds. It was quiet and he could see most of the town. It was such a small place compared to Santa Monica.

Maybe tomorrow he'd go skateboarding. Just as Theo started to relax, Dev started urging Theo to go find some water balloons to drop off the side of the roof. It was tempting, Theo had to admit, but he didn't want to get punched in his first month here. With his luck, he'd drop a balloon on a teacher or something.

Plus, he didn't have any balloons. So, Ange won that argument by default and Dev was sulking in his head now. It was always a party inside Theo's mind.

It'd been a week on the island and nothing catastrophic had happened yet. Theo wasn't sure if he wanted to call that a win but it wasn't a bad start. Thom and Kiori had been amused by the antics of the island and they were already trying to find time to come out there. Things back home were...the same. His friends were keeping Dr. Brockton up to date on his progress and his parents were...off at another seminar.

Of course.

"Cartoons!" Dev bellowed, making Theo outwardly wince at the volume. "We never get to watch cartoons!"

"That's because there's nothing of value in them, Dev," Ange said, rubbing her head like the long suffering Elysian that she was. "There are so many better things to watch."

"There's value in that they're funny," Dev growled, almost pouting. "What do you want to watch? Something about plants?"

"Well, plants are qu -- "

"NO!"

"Cut it out!" Theo snapped, rubbing his temple and frowning. "We're just not going to watch anything!"

And with that, Theo stabbed the remote control and shut the television off. So, now he was just sitting in the common room with the television off and two arguing entities in his head.

His first foray into a common room had gone so well!

[Common room is open. Feel free to have heard Theo shout at no one.]
