Funkytown Zoo campfire, Sunday afternoon

Mira felt that she'd been dealing with Fandom pretty well so far. She hadn't freaked out about anything, she attended her classes, she did everything without much (if any) griping.

And then she saw her bouncy castle. Somehow, the seal was the most ridiculous part of it. "I'm not going on there. Not without a substantial bribe."

For the time being, she took the bag she had brought down from the dorms with her, set it on the ground near the campfire, and decided to use that as a seat while she lit the fire and tried not to look at the tiny elephant on the castle.

[OOC: It's a lazy Sunday and I failed to wake up in the late afternoon, so I'm posting a bunch instead.]

"I do not believe they bribe students," Loki informed her sadly. Ikol cawed from his position on his shoulder in agreement.

"I'm willing to be a trailblazer," Mira noted. "That's pretty much the only way I'm spending any time in there."

"I am certain the woods will appeal to you then." A beat. "Though I have heard it to be diseased."

Teal deer? Those couldn't be healthy.

"Diseased how?" Mira asked. Was this something else that people had neglected to warn her about? Like the sharks?

"The deer are blue," Loki replied, leaning closer as though he was imparting a terrible secret. "And there are fish with fur, I have heard."

"Is that kind of thing strange here?" Mira asked. Look, SHE WAS FROM SPACE. Animals got weird out there.

Loki sighed. "Yes. Yes, it is weird."

"Are you sure they're not just alien species?" Mira checked. BECAUSE SPACE. "I mean, there are people here from other galaxies." She raised her hand. See how helpful she was? SEE?

"No. On Midgard, the animals are to look a certain way."

"And they're not supposed to fall from the sky like they did last Sunday," Mira pointed out. "Think what you want, I'm sticking with my theory."

"They're not from space. And sharks are native to this world, you know."

"Even sky sharks? Because that's the first I've heard of them since I've been here," Mira pointed out.

"They weren't sky sharks." They were SyFy sharks.

"Then what do you call it when sharks are flying through the sky like that?" Mira asked. To be fair, she'd stayed inside and didn't have a great look at the sharks and their methods of travel.

She wasn't Batman or anything.

"They were sharks who... had somehow been caught up in a very strong storm."

Yes.

"Though how they continued to breathe is a mystery."

"It was probably thanks to their alien biology," Mira suggested.

"Or a very considerate storm."

"Alien animals are out of the question, but sentient weather makes sense?" Mira asked.

"On this island? Yes."

"I don't buy it," Mira said. "I'm still sticking with my theory."

"Your wrong theory."

"Probably. But it's still better than your wrong theory," Mira smugged. Yep, that was a verb now.

"I'll tell you what. I'll hang around here for a while and if I end up diseased, we'll give you the win," Mira offered.

"That would be acceptable."

"Glad to hear it," Mira said. "Now that that's settled, you've been here longer than me, right? Do they always do this with the weird air hut things?"

"Oh, yes. You become used to the sleeping arrangements." A beat. "Or learn to hide."

He didn't know his bunkmate was Alex yet, but he knew about hiding from people. Oh. He knew.

"Where are the best places to hide around here?" Mira asked. She was a people person, in that she hunted them for a living. She knew a hider when she argued with one.

"There is a shack nearby..."

You know. If you wanted to be interrupted by people hooking up.

"We had these last term--or, different ones--and they really weren't that bad," Anna argued. Of course, Anna had very few possessions to store anywhere and didn't sleep, so it wasn't like she necessarily needed to spend that much time inside the bouncy castle anyway. "I think we're sharing a tent thing, hi, I'm Anna."

"Mira," she said, nodding a greeting. "And are you sure about that? Because that thing looks uncomfortable and is calling us funky animals. That seems pretty bad to me."

"It could be worse," Anna pointed out. "We could be in that clear one over there."

"Okay, I'd rather be a funky animal than sleeping in there," Mira admitted. "Everything's relative, I guess."

"Maybe one of the others will have a pet," Anna suggested hopefully. "Then we could tell everyone that was the funky animal."

"I'd make a joke about dealing with pet smell in cramped spaces, but I spent a couple years on Nar Shaddaa. I have no room to even joke about bad smells these days," Mira said.
