3rd Floor Common Room, Late Saturday Morning

It took Bay a while to figure out that this wasn't just one of those wacky weekends where she personally got to walk a mile in Daphne's shoes. But even after she knew everybody was deaf, she took one look at the demon-bird-things swooping down and decided she needed more cover than a freaking bouncy castle could provide. She grabbed a couple provisions and made her way back to the dorms, where she popped Deafenstein in the DVD player. Somehow, a bad ASL horror movie felt like comfort food today.

She sent out a quick email on the student listserv.

I know sign language and there are no creepy birds in the dorms. Come to the 3rd floor if you wanna watch a bad ASL horror movie with me.

... okay, so maybe that wasn't incredibly enticing, but it was what Bay had. She made enough popcorn to share and settled back to watch the movie.

[OOC: Very open CR. Email went to all the students. Deafenstein is a real movie in SaB, inspired by Deafula.]

Cordelia came into the common room bitching. She had a lot of complaining to do, okay? Being subjected to bouncy castles was bad enough, okay, but those weird winged things? Hello, that was exactly the sort of weird she'd come here to get away from. This was probably all Buffy's fault.

Of course, no one could hear her. She couldn't hear herself. That was not stopping her. It just meant she was going to gesticulate more to get her point across that she was Displeased.

"It's therapeutic!" Cordelia said, not that she anyone could hear it. But she still sighed overexaggeratedly and half-flopped into a chair.

[identity profile] haslayers.livejournal.com 2013-08-17 05:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"Seriously," she mouthed back, grabbing a handful of popcorn. She also gestured to the TV in what she thought was the international sign for 'what's this' but it was possible she looked like she was waving.

Mira was a self-starter as a businesswoman. She couldn't hear and there were fierce-looking creatures outside her window? Not a problem.

She walked into the common room with a sign: "Worried About Someone's Safety? Need to Find Them In Town? $20 Flat Rate."

She nodded a greeting at the other girls in the room as she scoped out a prominent place not too far from the door for advertising purposes.

[identity profile] notapredator.livejournal.com 2013-08-17 05:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Mira had no idea what Bay was doing with her hands. But she was decent at reading lips and, you know, general intent, since it was useful in her line of work. Of course, communicating herself was harder.

She gave it a try, though, trying to make sure she enunciated while saying, "If someone pays me." She pointed at the '$20' part of the sign again just so it was clear.

Honestly, she'd probably do it for free if somebody was really concerned about someone. But she wasn't going to offer that up front.

[identity profile] notapredator.livejournal.com 2013-08-17 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, hey, that was way easier. Mira added a new line before passing the phone back.

Im not complaining too much if nobody pays me to go out there.

But work was work, you know?

[identity profile] haslayers.livejournal.com 2013-08-17 05:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Cordelia acknowledged that sign with a "really?" look.

Though she did approve of charging.

[identity profile] notapredator.livejournal.com 2013-08-17 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Mira nodded. She pointed at the sign, then to Cordelia, all while looking inquisitive. Did she need to check in on anyone?

[identity profile] haslayers.livejournal.com 2013-08-17 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope! Cordelia didn't really have reason to like many people here yet. She did mouth "Why?" though, because clearly this girl had to be crazy. Or really poor.

[identity profile] notapredator.livejournal.com 2013-08-17 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Mira flipped the sign over.

"Bounty Hunter for Hire."

She figured that people might wonder how serious her offer was. At least by making sure they knew what she did for a living, it might make a little more sense to them.

nomoresportscars: ([neu-] Suspicious.)

Jackson hadn't been interested in staying outside and fighting just for the sake of fighting. So, he'd made it back to the dorms, taken a shower to wash the blood off himself (and they should all have been grateful for that), and then gone to his common room to try and soothe his nerves with something good to eat because sometimes comfort food was a thing.

Except he hadn't actually found anything like that, neither his own or anyone else's, which was why he trekked up one floor to loot their kitchen instead. Whatever, there was a crisis on, he'd leave money to replace whatever he took.

He looked briefly surprised to actually see people in the room. But then he continued on towards the kitchen area.

[identity profile] haslayers.livejournal.com 2013-08-17 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Cordelia gave him a wave.

Because she couldn't walk. Waving was a thing.
nomoresportscars: ([neu+] Something you need?)

[personal profile] nomoresportscars 2013-08-17 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
It was! Nodding was also a thing, so that was what Jackson did.

He wasn't the nicest person around, and he was rattled from this morning's horrors, but pretty girls waving at him still deserved at least a nod.

[identity profile] haslayers.livejournal.com 2013-08-17 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
"Everybody's deaf and there are monsters," Cordelia said, trying to talk louder in case that worked.

To be fair, Cordelia was the type of person that would raise her voice at a non-English speaker like they'd magically understand her then, so this logic made total sense to her.

nomoresportscars: ([neu-] Well that was a timewaster.)

Yes, maybe, but it wasn't up to his rattled standards right now. Leave it to Jackson to be extra picky in a crisis.

He tried conveying that with a vague shrug.

[identity profile] regretiz4suckas.livejournal.com 2013-08-17 07:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Kenzi held up a notepad in front of her when she walked into the room. THIS BLOWS!

Then flopped down on the couch and quickly wrote: What movie?

[identity profile] regretiz4suckas.livejournal.com 2013-08-17 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Kenzi mouthed "Deafenstein?!" because seriously? then started laughing silently.

She wrote back: Your sister's deaf? I'm guessing.
