2nd Floor Common Room, Wednesday afternoon

Cecil didn't have any classes today, so he was splitting his time between writing passionate e-mail messages to ♥Carlos♥, walking around a lot, and feeding Foucault. Who seemed to need an awful lot of food, but he supposed that was normal for a growing...well, whatever he was.

At the moment, he was in the common room, trying to scrounge fish and shrimp, since Carlos had suggested Foucault looked closest to a flamingo, and the little guy did seem to like the stuff. Foucault was waddling and flapping about the counter, squeaking adorably.

So hanging out in her room and turning into various sexy people to stare at naked in the mirror had started to lose its charm. If she'd come from a more sexually adventurous time period, she might have gone for some more . . . physical adventures in shapeshifting, but still being a 50s girl, the idea hadn't occurred to her, yet, so she went a-wanderin' instead.

"Oh, hi, Cecil!" she greeted as she came into the common room. "Who's your friend?"

This week seemed to be never ending. His poor skateboard was showing the effects of all the use it'd gotten over the past few days and he was trying to give it a break.

That meant wandering around the dorms, checking things out and keeping his mind busy. He spotted the animal in the common room first and then Cecil.

"That a bird?" he asked, momentarily distracted from his own issues.

"Hi!" Cecil beamed at her. "This is Foucault." He found a bit of shrimp cocktail and broke a tiny bit off for the little guy, who honk-squeaked and gobbled it up. "Isn't he the cutest?"

"I think so!" Cecil grinned as he fed it a bit of shrimp. "His name's Foucault."

"He's adorable," Raven confirmed, crouching down to get a better look at Foucault. "What kind of bird it he?"

"Foucault?" Theo asked, trying out the word before stepping into the common room. "Cool name."

He glanced at the energetic bird that was flapping around. "You get him from a pet store?"

"Mostly some sort of flamingo, maybe?" Cecil shrugged. "We're not really sure. But he was just too cute!"

"We?" Raven asked. "Where'd you get him? The shelter in town?"

[voiceoverdue]

"From the animal shelter," Cecil corrected. "Adoption's best, you know," he added gravely. "Also, hi! I'm Cecil."

"Theo," he said, giving the other guy a smile. "And I didn't even know there was a shelter on the island. That's pretty cool. Never had a pet myself."

Because he'd spent most of his childhood alone and wouldn't have been responsible enough.

"Yep." Cecil fed him a bit more shrimp and offered Raven a piece to give him, too. "They didn't know, so I asked my boyfriend ♥Carlos♥, and he said he looks mostly like a flamingo except the eyes, but he couldn't find anything just like him anywhere."

So he'd said he was the perfect pet for Cecil. Cecil was choosing to take that as a compliment.

"Oh! Yep." He grinned back. "I was walking past, and they had a sign out about mystery pets, so I had to go in and look. And there he was! Well, there were a few of them. But he was the cutest." And the least bitey.

"He seems pretty energetic," Theo said, watching the bird move around. "I don't think he's alone in feeling that this week. Everyone seems full of pent up energy."

"That's one way of putting it." Cecil rolled his eyes. "I wish we knew how long it was going on for."

"That'd be too easy," Theo said, rubbing the back of his neck. "Because then people could plan and stay indoors or go outdoors or whatever. With this, we're all just left wondering."

And suffering.

"Sort of like most of life," Cecil responded with a shrug. It was all pretty uncertain, wasn't it?

Sounded good to Raven. It wasn't like there were many folks just like her out there in the world, either.

She accepted the piece of shrimp and offered it up to Foucault, giggling a little as the little guy gobbled it down. "I guess you'll find out when he's all grown up then, huh?"

"Optimistic outlook," Theo said, crossing his arms. "But definitely true. I guess I wish life would sometimes be a little predictable. Maybe I'd get less headaches if it was a little easier."

"Probably," Cecil agreed. "I wonder if he'll end up pink, or maybe some sort of weird indescribable color. It'd be pretty cool either way, right?"

"I think he should be blue." Raven thought most things and people should be blue.

[voiceoverdue]

"Or more," Cecil pointed out cheerfully. "Predictable doesn't mean good."

"That would be neat," Cecil agreed. He cocked his head. "Would you like to be blue, Foucault? You would, wouldn't you?" he cooed, scritching under his chin.

Cecil had no problem with blue things and people.

"Are you a philosopher?" Theo asked. Look, the way Cecil was speaking was philosophy to him!

"I'm a radio host," Cecil corrected. "But aren't we all philosophers a little bit?"

Raven smiled wider. It was always nice to hear enthusiasm for blue creatures. "That reminds me," she said. "I was going to show you my trick, sometime."
