spin_kick_snap: Kang Min Kyung as Kathy/Banzai (Perched on Stool Smile)

Third Floor Common Room, Thursday Evening

So, Kathy's grand plan to go trick-or-treating in the dorms to meet people had kind of been a bust, but an important discovery had been made nevertheless: Theo had never seen Mister What.

Not a single episode. Hadn't even heard of the show. On the eve of the fiftieth anniversary, even!

The very idea was shocking, but Kathy was there to make it right. She couldn't let her favorite wallflower buddy continue to wallow in cultural ignorance forever! So, she'd hooked up her laptop to the TV in the third floor common room, where she had every episode from the new run (and a bunch of the old) torrented TOTALLY LEGALLY OBTAINED on her external hard drive.

The amount of food she'd gotten from the Chinese place in town was ridiculous, but the delivery guy hadn't seemed too fussed about it and the price was about what she'd figured, so she just shrugged and hauled it up, spreading it on the counter. Hopefully the smell of General Tso's Chicken and the distinctive noise of Mister What's time and space machine would lure other people to coming around, too.

[For one, but totally open! Food and episodes completely moddable]

Wait, wait, wait. Evan was so not following that statement, Theo.

"You think history is boring?!"

There was scandal in Evan's eyes. Scandal.

"Not all of it?" Theo said, wincing. "And not when it's taught here. But there are some parts of history that are pretty boring to me."
genesishero: (Curious)

[personal profile] genesishero 2013-11-03 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"Like... what parts?" Evan's scandal was now giving way to curiosity. "I kind of read history books for the fun of it, and I know some points in history were a little slower than others, but I didn't think anyone could find it boring."

Way more people than you'd think, Evan.

[identity profile] theoplustwo.livejournal.com 2013-11-03 04:12 pm (UTC)(link)
"I don't know if I could name anything specifically," Theo admitted with a shrug. "Learning a lot about government stuff isn't my favorite, though."
genesishero: (Close up!)

[personal profile] genesishero 2013-11-03 04:50 pm (UTC)(link)
"Wow." Evan was a little wide-eyed as he tried to digest that. "I guess politics aren't for everyone, huh? What sort of things do you like?"

People obviously liked different things than he did, or else there wouldn't be TV in the first place, but he'd never really ventured out to try to experience much beyond what he already knew.

[identity profile] theoplustwo.livejournal.com 2013-11-03 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
"When it comes to history?" Theo shrugged. "I dunno. A lot of it depends on who's teaching it to me, really. I like the class on American history I'm taking here because the teacher's good."
genesishero: (Curious)

[personal profile] genesishero 2013-11-03 05:30 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oooh! I'm not taking that one, though I wish I was. I mostly read up on Egyptian history during my library shifts... I don't think they've had any classes on that here before."

Evan's interest in history went way back.

[identity profile] theoplustwo.livejournal.com 2013-11-03 05:51 pm (UTC)(link)
"You seem to really like history," Theo noted with a small smile. "What brought that on?"
genesishero: (Smiling!)

[personal profile] genesishero 2013-11-03 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"Figuring out my roots, mostly," Evan admitted, skipping most of the gory details. "I recently found out some stuff about my family tree that my parents never told me about, and I decided I wanted to know more. But that required going way back."

[identity profile] theoplustwo.livejournal.com 2013-11-03 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
"Like..." Theo stopped for a second, trying to find the word. "Uh, genealogy? Is that the right word?"
genesishero: (A bit uncomfortable)

[personal profile] genesishero 2013-11-03 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
"More or less," Evan agreed, nodding a little. "One of my ancestors was a man with a lot of influence on the world around him, but... not really a great guy."

Oh, there was an understatement.

"So at first I mostly wanted to know because I've got his blood, you know? And then... Well, I stayed interested because it's just something I should know."

[identity profile] theoplustwo.livejournal.com 2013-11-03 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"Cool." That actually sounded interesting to Theo even if he didn't think his attention span would play well to that much research. "Besides the one ancestor, did you find anything interesting?"
genesishero: (Smiling!)

[personal profile] genesishero 2013-11-03 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
"Plenty of neat stuff about Egyptian Pharaohs and gods," Evan replied, nodding. "And even just little things about how people lived day to day. Egypt is actually pretty fascinating."

[identity profile] theoplustwo.livejournal.com 2013-11-03 06:46 pm (UTC)(link)
"More than just pyramids, huh?" Theo guessed.
genesishero: (Close up!)

[personal profile] genesishero 2013-11-03 06:54 pm (UTC)(link)
"Pyramids were only just a tiny part of it," Evan agreed, nodding enthusiastically. "I mean, we're talking about people who lived in a desert along a river that flooded every year. Family was really important to them, ad living life to the fullest. They weren't all just mummies and jackal-headed gods and cursed stone monuments, you know?"

[identity profile] theoplustwo.livejournal.com 2013-11-03 07:04 pm (UTC)(link)
"Television gives people the wrong impression sometimes," Theo said since he figured a lot of the knowledge of Egypt came from TV and was wrong. "Have you ever been to Egypt?"
genesishero: (Shadows)

[personal profile] genesishero 2013-11-03 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)
"Me personally?" The corner of Evan's mouth twitched a little. "No, I haven't. But my family tree isn't really all that far removed from there."

In that the person he was cloned from was a self-proclaimed god that hailed from there, and all.

[identity profile] theoplustwo.livejournal.com 2013-11-03 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"Would you ever consider going some day if the opportunity came about?" Theo asked, curious.
genesishero: (Curious)

[personal profile] genesishero 2013-11-03 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Evan balked for a moment at that one.

"I... I'm not sure," he admitted, realizing he'd never really given that question much thought. "I don't think I'd want to risk going there and getting mixed up in my... my ancestor's trouble. We have a kind of distinctive family resemblance."

To say the least.

[identity profile] theoplustwo.livejournal.com 2013-11-03 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
"...you could go in disguise?" Theo suggested, trying to be helpful.
genesishero: (Scared)

[personal profile] genesishero 2013-11-03 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
"Disguise?" That... didn't sound like it would work out so well, really. "Like a mask?"

Because Evan wasn't going to paint himself a different skin color just to visit Egypt. Ever.

[identity profile] theoplustwo.livejournal.com 2013-11-03 08:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"Mask. Wig. Sunglasses. Fake mustache. Big hat." Theo shrugged. "They can do some really cool stuff with costumes and stuff these days. I mean, it might be a lot to go through just for a visit to another country but still. If you ever really wanna go..."
genesishero: (UM. BUH.)

[personal profile] genesishero 2013-11-03 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
"If I ever really want to go," Evan echoed, blinking, "I'll... figure something out, I guess."

He'd probably look really weird with a fake mustache.

[identity profile] theoplustwo.livejournal.com 2013-11-03 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
"And my suggestion would be mullet for a wig," Theo joked, smiling.
genesishero: (Smiling!)

[personal profile] genesishero 2013-11-03 08:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Evan would look ridiculous with a mullet. He pulled off the emo-kid bangs way better.

"Maybe not the mullet," he laughed, shaking his head a little. "I'm pretty sure that's actually an awful idea."
