Raleigh had received a text message from his brother to turn on the goddamn TV to CNN. Which got the initial knee jerk reaction of a younger sibling to tell him not to boss him around. But he did as he was told after a few insults texted back.

And what he got was hazy helicopter footage of something huge moving in the rain, someplace tropical looking. The Philippines according to little news ticker on the bottom of the screen.

"No way."

Yes way, Raleigh. Have fun watching the second Kaiju attack of planet Earth.

And here Chuck was ready to ignore the hell out of anyone in the common room - especially if it was Raleigh.

Except the images were familiar. He paused, halfway to the stairs, his toothbrush still sticking out of his mouth.

"You up to Manila, eh?"

That had not been a very good day, but it had been miles better than what had come after.

"What?" There was more? Raleigh did not approve of this shit!

"Second Kaiju attack?" Chuck pulled the toothbrush out of his mouth and leaned on the sofa. "Yeah, Hundun. That was a rough one."

"I think it's Manilla," Raleigh said, letting the word 'second' sink in. And totally not up on the Kaiju codenames yet. That'll happen soon.

"Next one's in Cabo," Chuck said.

If he sounded far away and... not quite like an asshole, it was probably because he wasn't even really paying attention to Raleigh. "After that... eh, you'll find out."

He wasn't going to talk about Sydney.

"That's something you don't see everyday," was all that Anya could say as she strolled in.

"It's--yeah." Definitely something different.

She walked to the couch, eyes glued to the TV.

"I mean where is this happening? Philippines? Fandom Philippines?" because that was a little too much for Fandom, quite possibly.

"I think?" It was his Philippines, actually. But not like he'd know that.

Anya gave him a good look. "You know what those are? Sometimes people see things from their world on the TV. Kind of creepy, but it happens."

"What movie is this?" Jessica checked. She was coming back from some stuff in town when she heard the monster sounds from the common room. Assuming there were monster sounds. If not, then the sounds of people, okay? "Pretty good special effects."

"It's CNN," Raleigh replied. Because his world was special.

"Oh, crap," Jessica said. "Wait, is that this world's CNN or someplace else? It's insane that I even have to ask that."

"I think mine?" IT MADE SENSE, RALEIGH. EMBRACE IT.

"So does stuff like this happen on Earth a lot?" Alana asked Jessica curiously. "I mean, it doesn't on Raleigh's, or here, but on yours --?"

"It doesn't happen at all on most Earths I've heard of," Jessica said. "But mine has all kinds of stuff. Not too much in the way of giant monsters, but last year a guy took over a huge part of Europe with a futuristic living city, killing millions. So there's that."

"So there's that," Alana echoed. "And do I want to ask what a living city is?"

Rocket trees were bad enough.

Alana had a bowl of cereal in her hand as she curled into the couch, glancing curiously to Raleigh.

"What is this?"

"A Kaiju attack," Raleigh said with a sigh. "Yancy texted me to turn on the news and..."

"And this is what you got," Alana finished, a little wince in her tone. "Nice of him. Where is that?"

"I don't think anyone knows," he replied. "One just showed up out of nowhere last year and everyone thought it was just a fluke."

NOPE.

No, this wasn't Vider's common room, but she was hoping it had food.

Her thoughts of dinner were gone as soon as she got a good look at the TV. "What in the Alfather's name is that? Is this real?" Those seemed to be common questions.

"It's real," Raleigh replied. "They're calling them Kaiju."

Because it sounded better in Japanese.
