Fifth Floor Common Room: Tuesday Afternoon

After his class was done, Barry had headed back to his room and gathered his tablet where he had downloaded all the blockbuster sci-fi movies since 2009.

After setting up the TV, he had the tablet start transmitting the movies so he could watch while putting together some kind of small mechanical cage contraption on the coffee table.

"Jesus Christ," he moaned/bitched as the movie played on. "What Michael Bay does to a fucking cartoon is fucking ridiculous."

Barry started fast forwarding through the talky parts just to get to the action scenes.

"Then, watch the cartoon," Flick suggested, wandering in at the tail end of Barry's bitching. Not that he knew or cared what Barry was watching but it seemed like an easy solution to the problem.

He did take a moment to glance at what he was watching on his way to the small kitchen area. Lots of explosions, of course.

"I've seen the cartoon," Barry said not looking up from the screen. "I just want to see the fucking Bay trainwreck. Have you seen this?"

"What is it?" Flick asked after he'd grabbed some water from the refrigerator and gulped down about half the bottle. "I see explosions and fire. Typical of most action movies."

"Meta for Transformers: Revent of The Fallen," Barry replied as he went back to tinkering on his device. "It's the second one that still has the girl with the man hands."

"Can't say I've seen it," Flick said and, considering Barry's griping, he didn't feel too bad about that. "Man hands, huh? That's charming. You'll go far when you finally learn to flirt."

"Well, I know fucking enough not to call out a girl's bad feature to her face," Barry snarked.

Of course figuring out how to actually ask a girl out still eluded Barry. Damn you canon.

"And the odds of me flirting Megan Fox is pretty low to begin with."

"Well okay, that's true," Flick said, taking a seat for the moment. "But hey, there's always a chance."

A very, very, very low chance. A low enough chance that it made Flick snicker just to think about.

"What are you building there?" he asked, glancing over and forgetting about the movie.

"Gremlin trap," Barry explained. "Going to try and capture one of those fuckers."

Yes. That should go of splendidly, shouldn't it?

"You ever get bit by one?"

Flick raised an eyebrow.

"Can't say that I have but man, I hope I'm around when you try and capture one of them," Flick said, snickering. "I'll make sure to get it all on tape so you can study it later. For science."

No, it'd be so he could have something to laugh at.

"Yeah that would be helpful," Barry admittedthen looked up at Flick's snickering. "What's so funny?"

"A joke someone told me earlier," Flick lied, shrugging. "It was a good one. You're new here, right? Just get here a few days ago?"

"Yeah, rode the noobie bus and everything," Barry admitted. "Barry Ween. Noob senior. That's me."

"Flick. Senior," he said, giving Barry a nod. "And what brings you to this podunk island in the middle of nowhere? Attempts by your parents to straighten you up? Hiding out from a terrible past? Boredom?"

Raven was in the mood for company, and thus wandered her way upstairs after class.

"I'd say you're missing out on the plot," she said, after a few moments of watching Barry fast forward, "but I'm not certain that's really a thing in movies, anymore."

"I'm pretty sure the plot of this movie is that shit blows up. A fucking lot," Barry said looking up briefly from his contraption. "At least when this director is involved. So why bother with the talky bits?"

"Sometimes there are good jokes," Raven offered. "But not that often. Why are you watching it at all? There's, like, a hundred years worth of other, better movies out there."

She'd say mostly from the 40s and 50s, but she was admittedly a little biased.

"I'm trying to get caught up on all the crappy movies since 2009," Barry explained. "I've seen most of the latter half century. I'm Barry by the way."

"2009, huh?" Adorable. "I'm Raven. You should aim for the earlier half. It was called the golden age for a reason."

"I've watched some of it," Barry said defensively. "But the sci-fi movies back then had some bad fucking special effects. Why, is that where you're from?"

Raven rolled her eyes. "When you'd never seen a dinosaur fighting a giant monkey before, those effects were amazing." She crossed her arms, giving him something of an arch look. "I'm from 1954, yes. And I happen to find the future very disappointing on a technology level."

That wasn't even actually true any more. Smart phones and the internet were some of her favorite things in the world.

She was still pretty disappointed about the moon colonies, though.

That's why it sucks to be in the X-men movie-verse, Raven. No Forge. No Uatu. No Inhumans.

"Well maybe that's because you haven't seen my technology yet," Barry bragged. "Then again most people haven't because my world isn't ready for it yet."

"Alright, then, let's see it," Raven said. "Just remember, I'm from the generation that actually was promised jetpacks."

"My jetpack is packed at the moment," Barry replied as he pulled a wallet size device from his pocket and offered it to Raven. "How about you take a look at this."

"How about you tell me what it is before I touch it?"

Raven had been in the future a whole year now, thanks.

"Solar power generator," Barry responded nodding at the device. "That fucker will power New York City for a couple hundred years."
