Friday night. A night when people were social and went out and did things. Or, if you were Jessica, you might take a break from all of your research to watch something mindless on TV. Well, if this wasn't mindless, it certainly was insane.

It was some old movie called Edison and Chimp, featuring Jack Klugman as Thomas Edison and Tony Randall voicing the chimp as they solved crimes.

Seriously, no idea. Jessica wasn't going to ask, she was just going to enjoy the antics of the chimp. Because that guy was hilarious regardless of how much Tony Randall ooked. So she was going to settle down, she was going to eat some popcorn, and she was going to not look at her tablet during the movie. Nice and easy.

.... Okay, she was going to look at her tablet. But besides that!

"He's solving crimes with famed inventor Thomas Edison," Jessica said, putting the tablet back down. "As you do."

"It's an old movie. They got away with way dumber ideas back then," Jessica said. "Popcorn?"

"They continue to get away with them," Loki corrected, taking some popcorn as he perched on the arm of the couch.

"Are you questioning it as a cinematic choice, or did the island start fucking with old movies?" Joker had to ask.

"The cinematic choice," Loki replied definitively. "It's a terrible choice in partners."

"I dunno," Joker countered. "To me, it just screams zany antics, poorly thought-out plot, hack screenwriter, and zero redeeming qualities. What's not to love?"

"They could have at least tried for proper period clothing." Yes, that was the main concern here. That right there.

"It's Nikolai Tesla in disguise," Barry offered. "Clearly it's the only logical reason to add a chimp to a movie."

"He's biding his time to kill Edison and bury him in fucking patent paperwork," Barry reasoned.

"...I can accept that," Loki replied thoughtfully. And if it didn't happen? There was always fanfiction.

Friday night is for what? Socializing?

Actually it was for experimenting and making pharmaceuticals. At least it was after Barry's class with Cheryl and Pam.

Taking a break to get a drink he wandered into the common room and boggled at the TV.

"Is someone seriously watching this?"

"It's a movie about history's greatest inventor-slash-patent-troll and his chimp friend teaming up to solve mysterious," Jessica pointed out. "I'm watching it, but I'm not doing it seriously."

"That's just a fucking waste of film," Barry said grabbing a drink from the fridge and heading over to the couch. "Besides Edison as a total ass-hat to begin with."

"Tsk, language," Jessica said. "And you'll think differently once you see how he treats his ape friend and solve the dutchess's murder."

"I'm pretty sure this is not historically accurate," Barry said taking a seat. "And I'm only interested if the chimp is actually Tesla in disguise."

"Seriously? No," Joker commented. "Nothing about this movie can be taken seriously. That's why people are watching it."

"I'm not watching it," Barry replied. "This is a travesty to film-making."

Which is why he's sitting down and having a drink.

"Why have I not heard of this?" Joker asked, after watching the screen for about 10 seconds. "This is beautiful! I mean, just... Wow. There are no words. I'm smitten."

A few seconds later, he added, "So... someone's already made the obligatory 'this would be better with Tesla' comment, right?"

"Anyone who said that would be wrong. He was too humble to go around solving crimes with his chimp," Jessica pointed out. "To balance out the chimp, you need an ego."

"Well, I didn't mean historical Tesla, obviously," Joker countered. "I meant mythical Tesla, with his lighting ray guns and whatever else."

"Sorry, but I demand strict historical accuracy in my Edison and Chimp movies," Jessica declared.
