Fourth Floor Common Room, Sunday Evening

So, everyone was back from Skyrim safe and sound, and no one (at least, no one Joker knew of) had come down with dysentery, or Legionnaire's, or botulism, or tetanus, or anything. Success!

Beyond that, however, there was something much, much more important to celebrate: Eleanor's birthday!

As soon as they got back to the dorms, Joker picked up the flyers he'd put together weeks ago and started posting them in the halls, and then he got started on decorating the common room. This party was going to be EPIC! Or... well, they'd just had a week that was epic, and it wasn't as fun as it ought to have been. So, this party was going to be AWESOME!

Eleanor had been wanting to watch good movies for a change, so he'd lined up some of the best for the evening's entertainment. Snacks, pizza, cake, and ice cream rounded out the party's backbone, and all that was missing was the people.

Oh, and of course, because of the day's special surprise, Joker had scribbled "BYOB (Bring Your Own Baggage)" on the bottom of every flyer before he posted them.

(open post is open!)

Or add it to the growing pile, if you'd rather.

Eleanor had decided to be practical about this. One couldn't escape it in the literal sense; might as well keep the metaphorical equivalent with one.

So there was a pile over to one side of the room with a large trunk with 'FREAK' embossed into its side. On top of that, a smaller suitcase with 'Mommy Didn't Love Me' in fancy script matched nicely with a leather case that simply read 'FEAR OF INTIMACY.' The cosmetics bag stated 'AM I STILL HUMAN?' Which was a bit ridiculous, as it was quite clearly a cosmetics bag.

Eleanor was tempted to say they ought to try burning the piles and see if that produced any interesting results.

Almost all of Elsa's baggage today seemed to be semi-indecipherable randomness about snowmen and prophecy, with several bags about family, being a monster, and responsibility all tucked away in the corner with the rest of the bags. Some of her own baggage seemed to come from a set matching Eleanor's. Fear of intimacy? Check! Freak? Check! Elsa was giving them a side-eye before making her way into the room, toward the party proper.

She actually managed not to trip over Crippling Social Anxiety when it popped up in front of her in the form of an ugly ragged gunny sack, at least. And even managed to keep her composure in the face of it, shoving it toward the pile with one foot before continuing on her way.

Take that, social anxiety.

Johnny had two satchels on his shoulder when he showed up to the party. One said 'ASPIRING DRUNK' and contained a present. The other said 'MANSLUT' and was an advertisement as far as Johnny was concerned.

"For the record," Johnny announced when he walked in. "I haven't gotten a bag saying 'PARTIES TOO MUCH,' so it's official: there's no such thing as much much partying. MAGIC BAGS SAY SO!"

Kira, thankfully, only had two bags with her - a duffel bag that said AFRAID OF HERSELF and a purse that read VIRGIN.

At least the purse was cute?

"Hey, we've got an opposite set!" Johnny said, approaching Kira with his MANSLUT bag. "Personally, I think that's a little too personal, but at least it's a conversation starter."

Having safely deposited her baggage in the pile to one side, Eleanor was going to curl up on the couch and watch movies.

She'd never had a birthday party before. She couldn't say how they were supposed to go, but this one seemed to be going all right, as it was.

"Happy nameday, big sister," Anders told her with a wan smile. (The wanness related to the problem of the luggage, not to the happy occasion. Of course he was happy to be there for Eleanor.) "Which one is this?"

Anders didn't feel like discussing any of the luggage following him around. Not ANGER, not SELF-RIGHTEOUSNESS, not the ones about his parents, and certainly not FEARS LOVE.

He aggressively planted himself on the couch to watch Battle Group instead, feet on his FOUR YEARS IN THE CIRCLE steamer trunk. At least he liked the movie --but, then, something about dual personalities had always fascinated him.

Screw the typical birthday song. Barry recreated the visual experience from Elsa's birthday by singing Hurra for Deg

Hurra for deg som fyller ditt år!
Ja, deg vil vi gratulere!
Alle i ring omkring deg vi står,
og se, nå vil vi marsjere,
bukke, nikke, neie, snu oss omkring,
danse så for deg med hopp og sprett og spring,
ønske deg av hjertet alle gode ting
og si meg så, hva vil du mere? Gratulere!

There was even a dance that went with it!

Barry's gift was truly a practical one. It was a stationary robotic arm which held a laser pointer. When turned on it would provide cat acrobatics for hours.

Johnny dropped off his drunk bag. There was a nice bottle of wine from Skyrim in there and a very nice note about how he would have gotten her something more if he had more warning, but this wine meant a lot to him, personally, and so the thought counted for a lot.

He was sure she'd figure out that it was lighthearted, since the wine was only nice.

Elsa's present for Eleanor wasn't particularly practical, but it was, at least, rather lovely. She'd found a blue (http://ic.pics.livejournal.com/iceolatedqueen/67696236/3011/3011_1000.jpg) pendant (https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/193242115/bisected-an-ornately-wrapped-teal-and) while in Skyrim that had made her think of Eleanor for no reason she could really put her finger on, and was setting the little box on the table with a small smile.

If a Complicated Feelings For Eleanor bag happened to pop up among the rest of the luggage across the room, well, there was really no way to link that bag to Elsa, all the way over here, was there?
