FIRE DRILL!, Outside of the Dorms, Very Late Thursday Night/Very Early Friday Morning

The wind roared around campus this time of night. Temperatures had dropped to close to freezing, and clouds blocked out most of the fragile light of the moon.

Perfect time to ring the fire alarm for a test, right? Right.

Somewhere deep in the middle of the night, the alarm went off. Loudly. So grab what you can and bustle on outside, students! ... and let's hope this is over quick.

"If they're out here with us, they're probably miserable enough already," Raven said, yawning about halfway through. "Ugh, I feel like I could fall asleep on a tree or something right now."

[princessarcasm]

"That's not a bad idea," Amy said. "Plus you could make yourself look like something tiny and unnoticable so no one would come up to you and draw on your face or something."

Raven sighed. "Shifting while I'm asleep isn't really that restful," she said. "Or I would totally just turn into a squirrel and run up a tree."

She wouldn't. That would involve leaving her pajamas on the ground out here. Real clothes were so easy to get dirty or torn.

[princessarcasm]

"Oh right, you mentioned that," Amy said, smacking her own forehead lightly. "Blame it on tired-brain. I'm pretty sure I've never been awake at this hour before."

Whatever that hour happened to be. Her phone was still charging back in their room.

"...If I keep complaining, I'm never going to live down the 'new kid who can't handle being out in the elements' vibe, am I?"

Raven looked around. "I think everyone's complaining. You're probably fine."

[princessarcasm]

"Good," Amy said. "Because from what I've seen in boarding school documentaries, being the one person complaining just means I'll get hazed more and honestly I really don't want to wake up with fish in my bed or something."

Amy had a way of rambling while still maintaining a very matter-of-fact tone.

Raven frowned. "More? Has someone been hazing you?"

[princessarcasm]

"More compared to everyone else," Amy corrected hastily. "Sorry, I'm really not doing well at the whole talking thing today. And I'm guessing no one hazes here."

"I haven't seen any," Raven said lightly. "But it's always possible I'm just not cool enough."
