FIRE DRILL!, Outside of the Dorms, Very Late Thursday Night/Very Early Friday Morning

The wind roared around campus this time of night. Temperatures had dropped to close to freezing, and clouds blocked out most of the fragile light of the moon.

Perfect time to ring the fire alarm for a test, right? Right.

Somewhere deep in the middle of the night, the alarm went off. Loudly. So grab what you can and bustle on outside, students! ... and let's hope this is over quick.

The alarming noise had sent Cassandra stumbling out of bed, grabbing the knife from under her pillow. There had been no immediate assailant, however, just a stream of students heading down the hall in a hurry.

As a result, she was now standing outside, in her underwear with her longcoat thrown haphazardly over her shoulders.

She was also wielding a knife, though no longer in any kind of active sense. She just had nowhere to put it.

And she seemed very, very annoyed.

"Are we under attack?"

Cassandra was possibly not the best person to ask, but she was armed, and Hanna was wishing she was. Maybe she could smother someone with the blanket?

Edward looked mostly bewildered. He'd been asleep only five minutes prior and now he was standing outside in his hooded sweatshirt and old set of trousers and Isabelle's scarf wrapped haphazardly around his neck.

He wasn't sure about anything right now, besides that he wanted it to stop.

"This is stupid."

Said the girl who looked like she hadn't slept in days. So, you had to believe that that was her very serious opinion.

Elsa, by some miracle in her sleep-fogged state of mind, had managed to grab both a blanket and her dog before stumbling down the stairs this morning. Not that she felt the cold, and she was still standing barefoot all the same, but with Anna here as a student as well these days, she was going to manage coherent thought long enough to avoid being noticeably cold-resistant.

Elsa looked a little bit like she wanted to go crawl under a rock somewhere to sleep. Canute, on the other hand, was off-leash and frolicking, because he was outside at not-outside-time, and outside was so full of people!

"He seems to be enjoying himself," Jalian noted. At least someone was!

Sparkle didn't seem too concerned by the fire drill, really. He was generally up stupidly late anyway, and it wasn't like the cold was anything worse than he usually faced in the winter back when he was growing up. Besides, this was Fandom. The odds that the dorms were actually burning down were pretty slim. So he actually took a few minutes to get properly dressed (and to empty a bag full of glitter onto his floor so he could stuff his cat into his backpack) before walking straight on past the school grounds completely, heading into town.

About fifteen minutes later, he had an armload of emergency blankets shoved into his bag along with his cat, and as many trays of hot convenience store tea as he could carry. Herbal decaf stuff, in case people wanted to actually sleep later.

"Blankets and tea, help yourselves!"

He hated when people were cold, okay? So he was going to light himself a smoke while he was out here and hand his wares out to whoever looked like they really needed them.

"You are the best person," Kathy muttered sleepily, helping herself to a cup of tea. She'd brought her own blanket with her. "Remind me to let you win at Uno sometime or something for this."

Despite being suddenly woken, Face looked fetchingly dishevelled rather than rumpled and bleary-eyed.

He also looked cold since he'd prioritised his boots and a pair of trousers over a shirt or vest when grabbing clothes.

It was so completely unfair that Face looked fetchingly disheveled and Mara'a hair looked like she had been shot from a cannon.

But at least she'd remembered her nice warm coat! "Do you need a scarf?" she offered.

Since she was as likely to sleep in ordinary clothes as pyjamas, Emma was one of the better dressed people out here.

That didn't mean she wasn't going to huddle up in her jacket and hope this would be over with soon.

As soon as it had registered to her that the fire alarm was going off, Alex had grabbed as many layers as she could grab - which ended up being a dressing gown and her quilt, remembered to put on her slippers and made her way outside.

She usually hated the cold and this one was no exception as she tried to bundle up with what she had available to her.

Ronan was an insomniac so the sudden blaring alarm hadn't woken him up. It'd pissed him off (of course) but it hadn't taken much effort for him to slide his jacket, a scarf and heavy, black boots on before scooping up Chainsaw and heading out.

Chainsaw got safely tucked into his jacket and Ronan pulled the collar of his jacket up against the wind. This was freaking ridiculous. These stupid drills were never how the real thing went. Never.

Let it never be said that Karina didn't learn from previous experiences. This time, she'd remembered to wear boots and she'd also added a jacket and a hat.

She still didn't look particularly cold--because she wasn't--but at least she was dressed the part.

Mostly, Karina just wanted the alarm to stop. Ugh. She'd been sleeping.

Vider, like many berserkers, ran hot, so the cold didn't really bother her...though once she realized there wasn't an actual fire she wished she'd grabbed some pants on the way out the door to put on under the oversized t-shirt she'd slept in. Oh, well. The sight of her knees wasn't likely to kill anyone, and at least she'd grabbed her boots.

She'd forgotten to take out her braids the night before, though, so the state of her hair was frightful.

Flick didn't sleep well on the best of nights so having his sleep interrupted by an alarm made him unhappy. Tromping out into the cold without a shirt made him even less happy. Thankfully, he'd grabbed a blanket off his bed that he wrapped around himself.

Thank goodness he'd been sleeping in pants and that his boots were easily slipped on. He was just going to stand there and look sullen.

Isabelle looked terrible. And she probably knew it, which might have been the cause for how she decided to just embrace him and rest her head against his shoulder as soon as she got to him.

Nathan was freezing. When he'd gotten jolted out of bed by an alarm, he hadn't known what was going on. He'd had to stick his head out of his room and ask a random passerby what to do before he'd gotten his shoes on, grabbed a jumper and stomped out of the room.

He was shivering with his hands shoved into his pockets and a bleary look on his face while he waited outside.

"It's miserable out here," Anders whined as he came over to Nathan. "What's the point?"

He'd stopped warming himself with magical fire for the sake of complaining conversation, though he wasn't sure how long he'd last without it.

Travis knew the sound of fire alarms. He knew them well and he still didn't want to roll out of bed and go outside. But, he did.

He stumbled into his pants and shoes and grabbed a tank top and jacket on his way out so he was at least a little warm. His eyes were stinging when the wind hit them and his cheeks were turning pink but he was there, waiting around with the rest of the crowd.

"You remember when I said sleeping in a tree was a bad idea?" Hi, Nathan! You were gonna be bitched at, because you were right here and it was cold and Kathy had just gotten to sleep. "I take it back. It's the best idea ever. It's quiet there."

Alana had put on a sweatshirt over the tank top and yoga pants she wore to bed, and she was still freezing. She dealt with the pain of it all by pacing and cursing, as she found the activities went well together.

How soon could she go back to sleep?

Carmilla had been awake, as she usually was at night. And the alarm actually didn't faze her, since she was used to weird warning bells at Silas.

Once she figured out what this alarm was for, she headed outside, and took up a good position to check out any girls who came out only in their pajamas. It was like Christmas!

"This is the woooorst," Kira whined as she headed out, shivering in her pink PJs. "I want to be in beeeed."

Anders had sleepily followed the crowd down to outside the dorm, pausing only to wrap a blanket over his thin pajamas and slide his feet into boots. he didn't understand why the bell kept ringing, and it made him angry on top of being cold and tired.

Well, at least he could do something about one of those things. He used his magic to form a flame above one palm, keeping it small enough that it wouldn't singe him -- or anyone else -- as he ran it over his chilly limbs. He could probably be convinced to share if anyone asked.

Mara was dressed in sleep pants, a sweatshirt that four sizes too big for her, boots, a heavy coat and three knives that no one knew about. She gazed blearily around the lawn and asked, "This isn't a trial for the snowball fight, right? It's cold as Hoth but there's not much to throw..."

Vider heard the question and called over, "Fire drill. They test if we're smart enough to leave a burning building by finding out if we're dumb enough to leave a perfectly good, warm one."

Kira was really, really glad that she'd decided to wear her warm flannel pajamas to bed, but she was still pretty chilly. Hopefully, this wasn't a real fire, and the alarm would go off soon--she'd be bouncing in place until they could go back inside.

Raven had a roommate again and as such had taken to wearing actual pajamas to bed again, which was good because half-asleep was not the state to go about trying to mimic things. As evidenced by her more-strawberry-than-blonde hair and gold eyes that didn't usually go with her practiced human look.

She didn't look particularly bothered to be standing in the cold in flannel pajama pants and a tank top. She kind of wished she'd thought to grab her robe, but really only because then she'd have pockets to stick her hands -- and her room keys -- in.

"You missed a spot," Amy advised helpfully, waving a hand in the direction of Raven's eyes. "Wrong color. Also, what the fuck is going on?"

She was familiar with the concept of a fire drill. What she wasn't familiar with was the kind of backwards, stupid thinking that would lead to having one at this time of night.

Rapunzel had half-slipped on her shoes, once she'd figured out what the noise was, because going outside in her bare feet seemed like a bad idea.

And then she took a few minutes, once she was outside, to find a spot that wasn't actually snow to pile her hair up in, and then wrapped herself up in it to curl up on the ground.

It wasn't perfect. She was still pretty cold. But it was about as close to 'cozy' as she was going to get for right now.

Amy slept in boxers and a tank top, and she had to admit she wasn't exactly thrilled to be out in the cold in exactly that.

She was keeping her arms crossed because she was just really sullen about this, you guys. No other reason.

Celia had a shawl wrapped around her shoulders that she was slowly warming with lazy, sleepy bursts of magic (still a cheater, even when half-asleep), and was doing her best to just stay upright.

She'd never taken well to being awoken suddenly. Walking in small circles seemed to help with the awakeness -- as would probably not using magic to warm herself, but she wasn't really feeling like making a sacrifice in the name of lucidity, there.

Isabelle was wearing a robe with a sparkly pink fake fur trim around the edges. It didn't go at all with how she looked like she wanted to murder someone. Tiredly. The dark under her eyes wasn't directly related to this particular lack of sleep.

Should've just gone back to New York last night like she'd planned to.

Cosette seemed a little bit lost; this was completely different from one of her father's abrupt middle-of-the-night moves, so she wasn't sure what to do with herself now, although she had the presence of mind to put on some warm shoes and grab her cloak, plus an extra blanket or two. It was just that they weren't going anywhere. That was the part that tripped her up.

She had also, out of habit, grabbed her doll Catherine, and no, she didn't particularly care if she was fifteen years old and standing on the lawn of the dorms in the middle of the night holding a very large, very old-fashioned doll. So what if she was? That doll meant a lot to her.
