FIRE DRILL!, Outside of the Dorms, Very Late Thursday Night/Very Early Friday Morning

The wind roared around campus this time of night. Temperatures had dropped to close to freezing, and clouds blocked out most of the fragile light of the moon.

Perfect time to ring the fire alarm for a test, right? Right.

Somewhere deep in the middle of the night, the alarm went off. Loudly. So grab what you can and bustle on outside, students! ... and let's hope this is over quick.

"It's annoying whatever it really is," he said, rubbing his temple. "And it's cold. They could have picked a better time to actually run a drill if that's what this is."

"Preferably a time when we're awake and wearing enough clothes to be outside," Anders muttered. "I was using my fire to keep warm earlier, but I put it out to walk around. I don't want to trip in the dark and accidentally catch someone's hair on fire."

Nathan couldn't stop himself from snickering. "I think the cold might be getting to me because my first thought was that as long as it wasn't my hair, I'd be okay with that."

"If I caught Rapunzel's we could have a bonfire and keep everyone warm," Anders said, and then looked vaguely horrified at himself. "... not that I want to burn her hair. But."

He raised his hand, focused, and produced a tiny flame that put out just enough heat that he could think about something besides the cold.

"I'm not going to tell her you said that," he said, snickering again. "That's a handy skill to have right now. Even just looking at fire makes me feel a little warmer."

"Good, I don't want her to know I'm thinking about her hair as fuel," Anders laughed. "And it's nice, isn't it? I couldn't manage enough to keep everyone warm but it's good to be able to do this much."

"It's helping," Nathan said, taking a breath and trying to imagine himself somewhere warm. Or at least warmer than this. "I still want this to end soon but it's helping some."
