Sixth Floor Common Room, Saturday evening

Between the smell of food, the sound of party music, and the sight of a lot of bottles (some of them even non-alcoholic!), it was clear that the sixth floor was ready for a party. Far away from yurts, and more importantly, far away from people who might be interrupted by a bunch of food, music, and drinking!

Summer was half over, everyone. Come on up and celebrate.

Anders liked parties. He also liked getting out of the yurt. So here he was, looking cheerful as he raided the food table for anything that had cheese in it.

"Hey, guy I don't really think I know at all," Johnny said. "Welcome to the party. Glad you could make it."

"I was going to spend the night eating yak yogurt, but somehow a party sounded better," Anders said, smiling. "I usually go by Anders, by the way. And I think we're in the same yurt."

Not that he could pronounce its name.

"I try not to get to know people in yurts. Keeping it impersonal is for the best until you're out in the real world," Johnny said. "Johnny. Good to actually talk to you."

"Likewise," Anders said. "And I like that. So everybody in the yurt is just a lump on a futon until we're back in our proper places?"

"I think so, yeah," Johnny said. "At least at night. During the day I like to get the hell out of there just so I don't waste any full days in a yurt."

"Anyone who does want to waste a day in a yurt would have to be a very sad, very strange person," Anders decided. "It's not even the worst place I've slept, but it's cramped and smells like wet yak."

"Do you actually know what wet yak smells like, or did it just sound good?" Johnny checked.

"Well, mainly it sounded good, but I have a better idea than most people," Anders said. "It rains a lot where I grew up. My parents raised cattle. Wet yak smell can't be much off from wet druffalo."

"If a druffalo is what it sounds like, I'm guessing it's almost the same smell, yeah," Johnny said. "I think I'm just glad my parents were scientists."

"I'm not sure scientist is even a job at home," Anders admitted. "We leave the inventing to the dwarves. But there are thousands of farmers."

"Do you come from a place with a Thor?" Johnny checked. "And if so, has he ever taken you out drinking?"

"I don't, but somehow that sounds like an amazing night," Anders said.

"We thwarted an alien invasion in space, then went out drinking with a Viking god of thunder," Johnny said. "It was one of the best nights of my life."

"I can't match that," Anders sighed. "I once fought off mutants in an underwater city, if that counts for anything."

"I'll count it. The closest I've come is fighting a merman, and that's never really worked in my favor," Johnny admitted.

"Well,if it's a merman it's in the water, isn't it?" Anders asked. "The city was under a bubble, so it was a little easier."

"He could fly, too. He had little wings on his ankles," Johnny said with a shrug.
