Main Campfire, Saturday Morning

Lucille had, like everyone else, woken up this morning without memories. This was strange, and obviously disturbing, and as the only things she could find in her strange home, apart from clothes, were two romantic novels, a collection of poetry and a phone, she had packed these in a small bag and left, hoping that the world outside would make things clearer.

It hadn't, which was why she was now sitting in front of a burnt out campfire, reading a novel called The Rose of Orlais.

"The world seem very different in the book I'm reading," she said. "And love seems very complicated. I don't think I'm in love with someone, so I wouldn't know if that's the same here."

"Which does not help my predicament at all." Yes, Thorin. Everyone was in that boat. Calm down, pal.

[crimson_sister]

"I answered your question," she said, a little annoyed. "I have no reason to help you understand the world. I don't understand it myself. I don't even know my name."

[dwarvenswagger]

"You don't?" Well that deflated him a little. Ugh, it was the worst.

[crimson_sister]

"No. Do you know yours?"

He probably didn't know hers anyway.

[dwarvenswagger]

"No," he admitted grudgingly. "Nor did I find anything that explained who I may be."

A beat.

"Save for a necklace with 'Son of Durin' on it."

Which honestly didn't help at all.

[crimson_sister]

"Perhaps that is your father, then." At least that was something. "Was it a nice necklace?"

[dwarvenswagger]

"Middling quality," he answered without thought. Which was sad because he made that thing when he was but a wee lad.

[crimson_sister]

"I think I prefer books," she said. "Do you like reading?"

[dwarvenswagger]

"If I knew the answer to that, I assure you, I would answer." Aww, there was the surliness again.

[crimson_sister]

"You would?" Something inside her made her doubt this, although she wasn't sure why.

[dwarvenswagger]

Well, now he had to double down on this. For reasons he couldn't explain.

"Yes. Yes, I would."

[crimson_sister]

For equally unexplainable reasons, she didn't believe him. "Why would you tell me anything?"

[dwarvenswagger]

It was so weird of them!

"Why wouldn't I? If I knew, I would share."

[crimson_sister]

"You see very certain of this," she said. "What if we are really enemies?"

[dwarvenswagger]

"If we were enemies, we would undoubtedly be trying to kill each other by now." They were frenemies. It was their thing.

[crimson_sister]

"But we don't remember," she pointed out. "How would we know we are supposed to kill each other?"

Unbeknownst to Lucille, this wasn't a very good argument, since they were doing very well being frenemies, even with amnesia.
