2nd Floor Common Room, Saturday Morning

In Home Ec they had been taught how to make bread, and although Lucille hadn't been particularly successful until Hyacinthe came to her assistance -- which had been enjoyable -- she knew it was a skill that she might come to need in the future, even if she might not admit that to others.

Reading recipes, it seemed like making scones was easier than making bread, which was why the smell of newly made scones filled the common room. They didn't look pretty and Lucille herself had flour in her hair and on her dress. Hopefully they would taste good, and would make a nice breakfast.

Perhaps Cassandra would like them too? She might save some for her, even though they would be better fresh from the oven.

Thorin smiled a little wider, walking past her to find something else to eat within the kitchen. "Perhaps if I had one of your lifetimes among you."

"You are slow to understand things then?" Lucille asked. That smile annoyed her.

Which was probably why he was still smiling.

"I shouldn't think so, but your people are so... mercurial in their behaviour."

[crimson_sister]

"And your people are... slow?"

It wasn't quite the opposite, no, but it was insulting.

[dwarvenswagger]

Rude, Lucille!

"Perhaps compared to the impetuous nature of your people."

[crimson_sister]

"No I'm curious what makes you perceive us as such."

Not curious about is as much as she want to hear what kind of response he would come up with. Dodging the question probably.

"Your people seen prone to rash actions. Perhaps due to your limited time here." Like tiny, tiny children.

"And are your people prone to inaction then?" Lucille countered.

For all she knew Dwarves could just spend their time standing around being stubborn and annoying to each other. Or was that only to humans?

And Elves!

"Inaction? No. Consideration? Yes."

[crimson_sister]

That was only because Elves were prettier than Dwarves.

"Considering what?"

[dwarvenswagger]

Tolkien says what?

"Consequences of our actions."

[crimson_sister]

Lucille would think Elves are prettier.

"Are you sure? Considering our actions are frequently an excuse for failing to take action."

Or it made sense that it could be, didn't it?

"Perhaps when you live a mere six or seven decades, it seems that way," Thorin replied with all the haughtiness of his station.

"And perhaps if you live however long you live you fail to see what needs to be done." Lucille could produce a matching expression, despite not being royal.

Dwarves tended to hide in their mountains, didn't they? Not that Lucille knew.

Hey now, they were busy being the least favorite of the author's creations!

"300 years tends to be the age of my line."

"You must be very young then," Lucille said, changing the subject a little. She didn't quite call him a baby though.

"Older than most at this school."

"Doesn't that mean young by the standards of your race?" Lucille asked sweetly.

"Not yours," he replied dryly.

"That isn't the important thing, is it?"

Lucille would find it so funny if he was little more than a child.

"Is it not?"

Because Lucille was a petty, petty girl.
