Summer's Halloween Party; Second Floor Common Room; Tuesday Evening [10/31}.

Naturally, Summer felt inclined to have a party for whatever reason, but, considering that the Devil himself had made her one of his minions after she'd been such a good employee not too long ago, Halloween in particular felt like it needed to be her jam. So she'd gone all out with the decorations and the food and the music, in a way that would have made Mr. Needful probably roll his eyes but secretly feel very proud of his little demonic underling.

And while she knew she was pretty much already rocking the Underwood Ham look, it was hardly a costume when she looked like that all the time. So she was pulling her hosting duties off in a sexy bull costume, because of course that was a thing, and she already had the horns already.

We all know everyone just wants to show off their costumes, right? Or make it painfully obvious to anyone who will listen that they're above wearing a costume because it's all just bullshit, or something.

Breq hadn't managed to find a costume. She hadn't actually been thinking clearly today, and was moving stiffly and jerkily. Perhaps what could be her nightgown was actually a costume though, it was long and trailed around her feet. She was lucky she hadn't stumbled and had her stitches come apart. Perhaps she was dressed up as a ghost?

She also found it hard to talk today.

Like someone else's difficulty talking would stop Sumner. "Ohmygod," the devil-bull girl gushed when she spotted Breq. "Love it. So classic!"

Breq turned her head to look at Summer. Her eyes widened, but she said nothing, and she slowly raised an arm, wrist limp.

"Ummm...." Summer honestly had no idea how to interpret that. But it had to be a good thing, right? "Cool!" She gave a little thumbs up. "Have a good time? Thanks for coming! Do you, like, need a straw or anything to help with a drink?"

Tip tried to wear a costume. She really did! But she was, as always, stuck in the bloody, ripped up jeans and t-shirt combo she'd been wearing the night she died.

At least it was thematic?

Summer's horned head tilted when she spotted Tip. "Victim of an unsolved murder?" she guessed, very cautiously adding, "Though why do I get the feeling that it's equal parts not-actually-a-costume as it is could-be-a-costume? It's so hard to tell on Halloween..."

"Unsolved murder sounds way cooler than 'flying car accident', so yeah. Let's go with that." Tip shrugged. "I swear I tried to find a real costume. It's really hard when you're incorporeal."

"Ooh," Summer winced, her tail flicking as well in sympathy, "yeah, that's got to be a little rough. That's probably got to mean, like, no candy or whatever, too, right?"

She imagined it would just pass right through her. Which was making her feel pretty good that she'd made a deal with the devil for her afterlife...

"But, hey! At least you don't have to worry about gaining any weight from it, either!"

Tip smirked. "Thank god I died young and skinny." She barely remembered the actual event, so she was cool with being flippant about it. "But yeah, it is a little rough this time of year. I loved being able to, you know, smell things other than leaf mold and rot. And eat. Like, I know it's considered more of a white girl thing but I miss pumpkin spice stuff!"

"Could be worse," Summer offered. "I mean, like, have you ever actually smelled brimstone? That stuff is disgusting, but Mr. Needful loves it, so guess what it smells like alllll over hell, and the pumpkin spice there is, like, knockoff syrups that don't even get close to the real thing." She sighed. "I'm so glad to be on the surface right now."

"Isn't that just sulfur?" Tip asked. She'd smelled sulfur. Not in large amounts, sure, but she'd smelled it. "How long are you up here for this time?"

"Yeah, pretty much sulfur," Summer agreed with a nod, "but they think calling it brimstone is so much cooler." She rolled her eyes. "And I'm up for a while! At least until I graduate. The big man downstairs says you can't expect to get anywhere these days without at least a high school diploma. College, he says, we'll have to talk about later."

"Well, they do say that high school is hell. But I bet if you picked the right college and major, you could make it an easy sell."

The Creature from the Lanayru Lagoon had made it into the dorms and into the party. With a pair of rabbit ears on his head, because it was a costume party, was it not? And bunnies were cute.

"Hey!" Summer's face turned a slightly darker shade of red. "Careful! You're dripping water all over the carpet!"

Ugh, sea monsters were the wooooorst.

Aloy didn't even know about the costume thing at all, though she might have called bullshit on it if she did. (Everybody knew that dressing up in metal dinosaur parts was the only way to go.)

So it was a pretty confused Nora outcast standing there in the middle of the room. ... Squinting.

"First Halloween party?" Summer guessed, giving Aloy a little smile. It wasn't that surprising, really, around here, so she'd be more than happy to provide guidance to anyone who needed it. As a minion of the actual Devil, it was pretty much among her expected duties, right?

"I guess," Aloy said. She sounded skeptical. "What is it? Besides an excuse for everybody to put their weirdest gear on."

"And drink!" Summer said brightly, because that was an important part of any American holiday, too! She laughed a little, rolling her eyes, and launched into something more helpful. "It's an old holiday steeped in a lot of pagan believes that totally got seeped in overcommercialization to get people to spend a lot of money on silly costumes and candy. But it's fun, so why not, right? How often do I get a chance to wear head-to-toe pleather? I mean, okay, now that I'm a hellish minion, I actually do get to wear it quite a lot, but that's not the point. I'm just confusing things here, aren't I?"

"A little," Aloy admitted.

Dryly.

Look, when you were a Tiefling, every day was Halloween! What with the screaming and all.

So Yang, being Yang, had on a pair of white feathery wings and a halo balanced precariously atop her horns, occasionally shoving it back into place with her tail when she felt it slipping. Yes, she thought she was funny.

As someone currently red with a tail and horns as well, Summer could only grin and shoot an appreciative finger at Yang. "I like your style," she said.

Jason was totally wearing a costume! Sort of. At least, he'd shapeshifted into an approximation of a human boy, instead of just coming as his usual shapeless, one-eyed blob self. So it totally counted.

Summer didn't look so convinced, eyeing Jason with slightly narrowed eyes. "I'll give you two seconds to justify what you're wearing right now," she said, looking him up and down.

"What, you don't recognize me?" Jason said, mock-offended. "I mean, I know I don't usually go for the whole human skin-suit, but I'm hurt, Summer." With a sigh and roll of his eyes, he shifted back to his usual blob-self, and then back to the 'costume'. "Satisfied?"

"Ohhhhhhh," Summer's eyes went round with realization. "Oh, that is good! Almost too good. I retract my judgement." She held up her hands in surrender. "Well played. I couldn't have pulled it off, I'd have just looked like some lazy schlub wearing a bunch of pasty make-up."

Did you know how hard it was to conceal red skintones?

Concealing was easy when you were a shapeshifter from outer space who didn't really have skin tones!

"Well, as party-mistress, I'm glad you're pleased," Jason said with a smile. Which ended up looking more like a pained grimace, but details. Look, the point is, it was a valiant attempt at a smile.

Paris was dressed as a slightly panicked high school student who'd maybe sold her soul to a crossroads demon to get into an Ivy League school and whose debt was coming due?

Which looked a lot like regular, terrifying Paris. But in more black. Because Halloween.

"Paris! Little sis!" Summer lifted her red solo up in salute when she saw the other girl. "Hey, good to see you! Glad to see you've gotten in the holiday spirit!"

Those touches of black were way more than she would have expected.

"Oh, yeah," Paris said, laughing nervously. "I just love the supernatural."

Lie. Huge lie.

Of course, the spread is entirely themed, as well as moddable. Smoke coming off the (yes, already spiked punch). Cupcakes with little bats and skulls on them. A copious amount of jello molds with eyes in them....

Peridot had skipped right over the 'mingling' bit of the party and had gone straight for the 'lurking' part, peering over the edge of the food table with her little goblin eyes squinting speculatively at the offerings.

They would do.

Hopefully nobody minded that she was trying to make off with an entire jello mold.

Thankfully, there were plenty. Summer noticed, too, and couldn't help preening over the fact that it would be so secretively coveted. She thought for sure it would be the deviled eggs that hit big, but a part of her was still far more partial to her jello molds.

"Nice choice," she whispered conspiratorially to the lurking Peridot with a knowing wink.

Peridot gave a little hiss, and then skittered with her prize to hide behind the sofa, where she disappeared for a moment before peering out again to look at Summer.

"I might end up wanting seconds," she declared.

She was going to be so disgusted with herself tomorrow.

"Help yourself!" Summer said cheerfully, after taking a second to awww at how cute little hissing goblin Peridot was. "There's plenty, and it's always nice to have your hard work appreciated."

There were a few more moments of Peridot behind the sofa considering that, and then she nodded and skittered out again to grab another one.

"It wobbles. I find that pleasant."

Because the world needs another oddly unplanned yet choreographed rendition of "Thriller" and "Monster Mash" tonight.

Breq's coordination wasn't the best today, but she was standing to the side of the dance floor moving jerkily. Perhaps it was dancing.

Because it was really the only game that Summer could think of. Shhh. She was just here for the drinks and costumes...and jello.

No world ending right before I get the keys to my new apartment, boo-yah!!
