Second floor common room- Monday morning

Sabine only had one class on Monday, and she had just planned on getting some caffeine before having to go, except she walked into the common room to find puppies. Random puppies. Adorable, tiny, fluffy baby puppies.

She didn't know where they came from and obviously they wouldn't be staying, but could anyone blame her if she ignored the caffeine to pick one up and cuddle him? (The answer was no, not unless they were a monster.)

"I'm not asking questions," Sabine said. "They're just here, and they're great."

"They're so cuuuuuuuuuuuuute!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Nina had to, absolutely had to, kneel down to see how many of them she could pet. "Lookit you!!!!!! Lookit your tiny feets and noses and tails!!!!!!!!!"

Food? Food was forgotten.

She grinned up at the other girl. "Who needs a reason for this??????"

Sabine thought about it, and decided that was about right.

"Good point. I'm just expecting someone to ask, but I don't have an answer because I don't care." How could she care when she was getting to know what a tiny Australian shepherd was, even if she didn't actually know that was his breed!

The important part was that Sabine was getting puppy-love from puppies, and everything else was really just less important than that.

Nina took a seat on the floor, spreading her skirts over her knees invitingly. And was promptly granted her wish of a lapful of wriggly joy.

"I haven't been here that long," Nina said, with a laugh, "but my understanding is that, in cases like this, we're to blame the island itself for it, and just nod, like, wisely???????????"

As if that answered everything!

"Apparently. Once I walked into a party that no one threw," Sabine told her, making faces at her puppy (for the moment it was hers). "But this is much better and doesn't give me a headache the next day."

"A party no one threw??????" Nina looked intrigued for a moment, then her eyes sparkled. "But was it the party or what you drank at it that gave you the headache??????????"

"...The second thing," Sabine admitted. "So that's never happening again."

Sure it wasn't.

Nina didn't even know the other girl and she still gave her a doubtful look.

"You're never going to drink again??????????"

A beat.

"I'm, like, Nina, by the way!!!!!!"

"Sabine," she returned. "And I'm not planning on it. Can't think of any reason I'd want to."

Because it was funny to read, Sabine.

"I guess so," Nina said, still dubious. "Like, you could still have a drink at a party though, if it's just the one."

"Maybe. But I also don't go to a lot of parties," Sabine said.

Except for this, clearly a puppy party.

"There haven't been that many parties, I don't think, since I got here," Nina mused, picking up one puppy to nuzzle. "Maybe there, ought to be like, I don't know, monthly dorm parties????????"

"People might actually go for that," she said thoughtfully, scritching this puppy right behind the ears. "We end up in common rooms either bored or looking for food anyway, I hear parties fix both things?"

"That's the theory of them, anyway," Nina agreed cheerfully. "And, like, we could even do them themed if they hit around an Earth holiday, and if not just be like 'hey, it's time for a party, who needs a reason!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!'"

"I'm not quite up on the holidays," she admitted, and she wasn't sure she was a fan of the current ones. "There is one coming up soon, though."

Which would actually be perfect!

"Is there???????????"

Nina wasn't from Earth either, so holidays were not yet a thing she was up on.

"That makes the time work out really nicely though!!!!!!!!!!"

"I'd have to read up on it... and find out when it is. But we could make it happen." And maybe Sabine needed distractions like this that she could really focus on.

"And we should, like, totally make it happen!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Another girl might be concerned about railroading someone who was basically a stranger into party planning with her, but not Nina.

"How about we do a few days research and then touch base to, like, see what we've come up with?????"

Sabine was proving pretty easygoing with this stuff as long as she might be able to make something for it, anyway.

"Great, sounds like a plan."

Surely this would go well!
