Second Floor Common Room, Saturday Afternoon
Two girls had wandered into the attic this morning, one after the other.
It was also two girls who came storming back out again, bickering and arguing their way down several flights of stairs in loud, angry Scottish accents. Did they even actually know what it was they were arguing about? It was entirely possible they didn't! Did that matter? Not at all.
Also, they thought they were ducks.
"-- And that time you tried to use my own nephew against me! Do you figure that was my fault too?"
They could go on like this for a while, folks.

"Oh?" he asked, not entirely sure what else to say at that point. "Do tell."
no subject
On the regular, really.

Still, he grinned a little before adopting a very serious face and he nodded. "I shall most certainly keep that in mind," he promised. "My gratitude for the words of warning. I shouldn't want to find myself wrapped up unexpectedly in any trouble or plot..."

Not 'cents,' though that seemed like the sort of half-baked joke that Glomgold over there would be all over.
"There's a good lad, then. Keep vigilant! Keep keen! And most important of all, keep an eye on him."
Scrooge came by his paranoia honestly, at least.

He paused.
"Perhaps you've heard of me."

"By Hylia!" he declared, opening his arms with enthusiasm. "The Scrooge McDuck? Greatest adventurer and richest duck himself, in the...feathers?" It was a good thing Sidon was a natural grinner, because he was not going to be able to keep a straight face through this even if he tried. So he didn't, his usual brightness perhaps dialed up just a notch because of it. "Why, what an honor! Truly, I am humbled to be in the presence of such a distinguished personage. Are you currently in the pursuit of any particularly grand adventures, if I may ask?"
no subject
"But of course. I always am. But," and now he leaned in a little, conspiratorially, "nothing I dare discuss around certain other," a nod toward Mae, "persons," another nod toward Mae, "IF you know what I mean."

There was a pause.
"It's not that. I've already done that."
There. That was your hint. What it was not. Never could be too careful around Glomgold.

"Well, then," he said, "that's perfect! You can tell me more about this Atlantis thing instead, since you've already done that. Tales of past capers can be just as thrilling and exciting as tales of capers yet to come!"

wooden spooncane in case there were any traps, and depositing his feathery butt down into it."Well, I suppose one story can't hurt. It is quite the good one." A pause. "They're all good ones."

And a sly, slow grin for effect.
"It's a little-known fact that Atlantis can be reached, on the rare occasion when snow on the Drake Barrier Reef affects the ocean currents just enough to allow passage. Now, this trip, of course, was a family outing, showing my nephews, who were new to adventuring at the time, the ins and outs of the trade..."
He was going to go on like this for quite some time.

He...did feel a little bit bad, though, that he was essentially leaving Vette to talk all that time in that strange accent she was adopting, wondering if it might wind up with an unfortunate strain on her vocal chords, but he supposed, if that were the case, he could make it up to her somehow later. Because her sitting there telling him this story of Atlantis also kept her...well...sitting there and not going out and winding up in some embarrassing situation she'll regret when she turned back to normal. Maybe she'd even turn back to normal in the duration of the story? Who knew? Either way, he felt a little bad, but not too bad about it, because this was really a good story and an effective way to keep her put while she was infected.
Though, really, Scrooge McDuck over here seemed relatively harmless so far.
"I must say," he offered when it seemed the story had come around to its natural conclusion, laughing slightly, "what an incredible adventure! And you're a marvelous storyteller, as well; why, it almost felt as though I were there myself! But I fear it has done nothing to assuage my desire to know more about your next caper. In fact, I quite believe it's only made my curiosity worse!"

Glomgold was getting such a side-eye all over again.
He didn't trust that duck one bit.
no subject
What? It was probably really good!
But he knew he'd have no luck extracting the information now, and following yet another glare toward the equally bitten companion, he decided to change gears just slightly. "So....perhaps I may ask instead...what is the foundation for this...clear animosity for..." He dropped his voice a little lower for the impression of secrecy, "certain other persons?"
no subject
He rolled his eyes, as if to demonstrate how terribly inconvenient it all was.
Because, really, Glomgold was awful at it.

Although now Sidon was eyeing Mae with more than a little concern, as he wondered if she should be the one he'd need to be watchful of until the blew over, because he would rather not have her go and try to make murderous attempts on his girlfriend all based on nothing more than a venom-produced hallucination.
"Mmm," the sound came out in a thoughtful grunt. "I see. I can understand why you might want to keep a little closed-lipped around such a person."
no subject
A pause.
"And my vastly superior work ethic."
You didn't become the richest duck by being lazy, after all.

"If you ever meet somebody who manages it, let me know," Scrooge replied. "I'll show you somebody who isn't fated to remain great for long."
Judgy, Scrooge.
