Ah-ha! Marvelous! It was Sidon's turn to sell tickets for the annual prom, and, since it was his last time selling tickets for the annual prom, he would make sure to make the most out of it! Of course, a splendid job had been done with the banner announcing the event and all the glitter, but now Sidon had brought a copious amount of balloons and streamers into the picture as well. Why, he was practically swimming in them!

But, then again, swimming did tend to be Sidon's preferred state of being!

Either way, he was there, there were tickets, there were voting ballots for prom king and queen, and there was a very large red Zora prince peddling it all, with all the showmanship and verve people had come to expect from him, right down to the fact that he was calling out to everyone who passed by, asking if they'd gotten their tickets yet, come get your tickets! Didn't they all look fantastic today? Tickets! Get your tickets!

Nina had… possibly… gone a bit (okay a lot) all out for this party.

It was just that once she'd started looking up ideas she just couldn't help but get carried away. Knowing Wayne, she'd been incredibly restrained in the use of glitter—there was still bits of it, here and there, but she'd kept in minimal—instead choosing to use magic to emphasize the fact that this party might be taking place on the dorm roof but… really… they were all out in the bush.

It was probably best to not ask how much work it had taken her to magic up the carpet of grasses and the way trees stood along the edges of the roof against all defiance of how the roof usually was. The bonfire that crackled merrily in the center of the roof was sheer perfection, the absolute pinnacle of a bonfire.

And, importantly, it wasn't going to burn anything that it shouldn't. It tossed off plenty of heat and light and you could make s'mores in it—she'd made one, already, to test—just fine, but if you walked through it all that was going to happen was you'd be incredibly toasty warm.

Lawn chairs and plaid (and only plaid) blankets and cushions abound, scattered amongst the grass and underneath the branches of the trees that most definitely had not been there earlier in the day.

The most glittery thing was the banner she'd put on the greenhouse wall that read, in bright, sparkly letters:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, WAYNE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She hadn't been able to resist.

It was time for Tisarwat's first party here, and it was long overdue, really, but she felt pretty confident about it. Something about it felt like justEarth-style party rather than a Radchaai one. She was glad she managed to enlist the help of Nina and Sabine, though. Thanks to Nina, the word had definitely gone out, and, thanks to Sabine, the decorations for the party were abstract and classy, only a little suggestive (because pulling off something not suggestive this week would be near impossible!) and on theme (since apparently there was a holiday this weekend?) without being obvious. There were even lights strung up across the ceiling, set off against soft black fabric, to resemble a romantic and starry night sky. Plenty of food and drinks (mostly finger food, unfortunately, much to Tisarwat's chagrin, but, again, Earth-style party), there would be games later, it was really all ready to go!

Almost. Tisarwat had brought with her one final touch, a large bowl that she set on a stand right by the door, filled with gloves of all sizes and colors and styles, and a sign to go along with it that boldly declared: GLOVES OPTIONAL.

Oh, the scandal!

Tisarwat herself, of course, would be wearing gloves, thank you very much (unless, perhaps, a situation arose where she wouldn't be, *ahem*. She was more than delighted to be reaping the benefits of this planet's uncivilized degeneracy, but she was a little less willing to jump into actively participating in it herself. What she was not wearing, though, was her uniform, opting to go for a sleek black sleeveless sut cut in a feminine style.

She triple checked to make sure everything was ready, and it was, so now, she supposed, she just waited for everyone to arrive.

It was finally here! Prompto's favorite day of the entire Earth year: PUPPY BOWL SUNDAY! It had actually almost snuck up on him, since he didn't really follow sports even back on his own planet, much less this one, and he knew it was tied in with some other apparently big sporting event, but who even cared about that when there were puppies plaiyng sports instead? Oh, man. Words could seriously not express how much he loved the Puppy Bowl. The only thing that would be better than puppies playing football would be, like....chocobos playing polo.

Note to self: look into chocobo polo leagues.

Anyway! In his excitement, he'd even gotten up early to make sure everything was set for the party, from snacks to decorations to making sure he remembered what channel it was even going to be on. And then it was a matter of just hanging out and hoping people showed up, but even if they didn't, it was still watching puppies play football, and so there was no way he could lose in a situation like that.

It would seem like a waste of a lot of paper and energy if his flyers hadn't enticed people to come, but OHHHH WEEELLLLLLLLLLLLL!

Tonight was Longest Night, the most major holiday of the year where Mae was from. And Mae was still in Fandom instead of home in Possum Springs with her family. There were any number of reasons for this: her last class was just yesterday and she didn't have time to rush home. Her family couldn't really afford bus tickets back and forth that often, so it was cheaper for Mae to stay in town.

And it wouldn't be the same at home anyway. It wasn't last year. No one there had forgotten about the Incident, so Mae would just end up lying around feeling guilty and depressed while her parents offered meaningless platitudes about things "getting better" in the new year.

Instead she was here, where everyone celebrated Longest Night four days late and under the wrong name. She could lie around feeling lonely and depressed, and had in fact planned to do just that, until the island gave them all candles for the day. Fandom knew, even if no one else did: Longest Night was still the longest night, and that was worth celebrating. So she went on a scavenger hunt through the dorms for supplies, scribbled some signs on notebook paper and pasted them in the common rooms, and headed to the roof to throw her own little Longest Night party.

LONGEST NIGHT
It's the darkest it'll get all year tonight
and that's spooky and cool
Come to the roof for hot drinks
and a fire like snacks and stuff

Or don't. Whatever.
More snacks for me.

When Sidon woke up that morning, his tank runneth over...quite literally, although thankfully not with water, but instead...with fish! He wasn't sure exactly what had happened, beyond perhaps the island being in one of its odd yet generous moods, but there was far more fish that he himself could even eat. Not wanting to let such a bounty go to waste, then, he headed down to the common room to at least prepare some of it to be refrigerated or frozen for later consumption.

Only to discover that the bounty had extended to the common room, as well, only in the form of copious amounts of rice and seaweed.

Well, clearly, this fortitious combination of items called for one thing and one thing alone: an impromptu sushi-making party!

Sidon quickly found his phone and sent a text to anyone he thought might be interested, which could very well have been entirely all of his contacts in his phone:

It appears as though we are full up on all the wonderful components to making an excellent spread of fresh and exquisite sushi! Come and join me in the fourth floor common room if you desire to assist and/or partake in this gloriously delicious undertaking!

If anything, at least Sidon had the firm knowledge in knowing he'd at least eat well for the next couple of days, but this much fish was clearly meant to be shared!

After a conversation with Sabine yesterday about art and some of the more...err...destructive natures of her particular style of art, Prompto had an idea, especially since, well, it seemed like he was one of the few grown-ups even left in the dorms this weekend and it was probably a good idea to have something all the little kidlets could do that was somewhat contained and keeping them out of trouble.

Because, you know, babysitting his wee tiny little sister and a wee tiny little Zora (SO wee tiny, wtf, Sidon??) wasn't enough. He was also taking it on himself to plan a little art party, too. Out on the deck, where there was plenty of space and clean-up was a little easier and not likely to make Fosse pretty much hate everything about this weekend (if he didn't already).

So the deck was covered in layers of big pieces of paper, ready to be turned into art, and there were paints and markers and crayons and whatever other art supply Prompto could think of and find (which meant yes, tons of glitter, sorry, Fosse, it couldn't all be avoided!). But there was also a collection of..."bombs"....little things like eggs and grapes and blueberries and water balloons with some paint and food coloring in them that could be thrown onto the deck and explode to give things that little extra Sabine-inspired flair.

And smocks.

So many smocks.

Prompto was making it his personal goal to make sure no kid even got close to touching this stuff until they had a smock on, and he got Sidon on board with it, because he was a good little Zora, and very energetic, so he will chase you down until you obliged, dang it!

[[ ART PARTY! Come make a mess and/or make Prompto flail a little! No OCD, chaos encouraged, please mod your supplies and various art "bombs"! I still have a few hours of work left, though, so I'll be slow to ping back until then! ]]

"And then the Princess Ce'na encountered the Maze of Longing with her loyal and faithful knight, Sir Foomy, at her side…," Nina narrated for the sake of the video she was shooting. Of, yes, bird!Vette (now an amnesiac princess bird!Vette) and her loyal jelly demon and the maze that Nina had made out of the common room floor.

It had taken her a few hours of drawing to get how to summon that down pat, but given that the bird princess and the jelly knight slept more than she did, well, Nina had had the time.

And it was worth it to watch Princess Ce'na trepidatiously enter the maze of string-trees and origami leaves that shivered in winds unknown to find, perhaps, a way to regain her memories!

Nina was… still probably not the best one to leave people trapped by tropes with all weekend.

"Would the maze treat them kindly? Or would they never be heard from again???????????"

On cue, there was the cawing laughter of crows.

"And what of the evil Miss Dozy, waiting at the other end of the maze????????"

Miss Dozy yawned, so thoroughly over this game. Nina was undeterred.

[Open, of course! Mind the maze that's taken up most of the floor!]

Sabine had just wanted dinner, and she couldn't find the leftovers she'd stashed in the fridge. Maybe someone else didn't know what the starbird symbol on her stuff meant, or maybe a gremlin stole it, or maybe someone just pushed it waaaay back there somewhere.

Anyway, this had led to a search of the fridge, and the freezer since she might as well, and at this point it was something of an excavation.

She had a trash bag and was tossing the things that looked just so expired, unrecognizable, or downright evil. At one point she pulled out a container and studied the label, asking, "Who's Rory Gilmore?"

Today had been a busy day for Vette. There had been classes, work, visits to her boyfriend at work, and, oh yes, secretly and frantically organizing a surprise birthday party for Nina. Sidon and Prompto had been tapped in for getting-supplies-and-decorating duty with Prompto portalling to Mainland 1.0 to get a proper cake and decorations. Nuclear wastelands, after all, were a little slim on party supplies.

Vette, meanwhile, was going to use that fact to her favor after sending out a text to basically the whole student body (minus Nina) announcing the where and when and why of the party in question. She cornered Nina before she could venture into the common room, and then presented her with one of the cookies liberated from her snack drawer, with a candle on it.

Since, you know, nuclear wastelands didn't really have cake.

There had been a cute little birthday song that Vette made up on the fly (she'd had Miss Dozy assist in singing it, which mostly meant waving a little naked cat around in the air while singing about getting older but no more mature), and then Vette had gasped.

"Nina! I forgot the milk!"

You couldn't have a birthday cookie without milk.

And that was how Vette managed to drag the birthday girl to the common room for a surprise party, wasteland or none.

The weather today looked a little cloudy but warm, and Sidon was contemplating going out to enjoy it when he went into the common room to grab something to eat before he did. And it was there that he happened upon a curious looking hatchling that almost appeared to be Zora, except he was clearly also very much not. Whatever he was, though, he had situated himself in front of the coffee table in front of a large plate of frozen fishstick, surrounded by every single bottle of hot sauce that Sidon could only assume had been previously in the refrigerator. The little one looked very intently down at the plate for a moment before grabbing a bottle, turning it over, and very liberally adding it to the food before taking a bite, humming thoughtfully as he chewed, and then shrugging and going to add more from another bottle.

Until he noticed Sidon standing there, anyway, at which point he turned his head, blinked, and then let out a laugh. "Oh, hello, Father!" he said. "You've shrunk!"

Sidon blinked, realized he'd heard that exact same sentiment from a small blue Zora that bore an eerie resemblance to his sister about a year ago. And now he was hearing it from a small blue not-quite-Zora, with headfins that didn't quite seem like headfins, but now, as he got a closer look at them, certainly did seem to resemble lekku, questing through hot sauces diligently despite none of them seeming to be nearly hot enough.

Sidon was capable of some rather large grins, but it would be difficult to beat the one that spread on his face just then. "Marvelous!" he said, and then he laughed. "But I assure you, little one, it is not I who have shrunk, but rather you who have found yourself a bit back in time. Allow me to join your repast; I have a plethora of questions that I must ask of you, and then we shall go and find your mother. I'm sure she will be absolutely delighted to meet you!"

....delighted might...not exactly be the word, there, Sidon.

But they'd clearly cross that bridge when they came to it.

Somehow, by sheer luck of the draw, it would seem that Astrid and Sidon got paired up to do double-duty at the ticket table that Wednesday, and this time they didn't even have the buffer of a crabbed Norman to help them out. And Astrid was sort of feeling like she could really use a buffer of any sort to distract her from the fact that she was sitting there at a table with a very large, very naked shark person.

And she was just...what? Expected to not think about the fact he was just there, without any clothes, and everyone was just fine with it? Obviously, Sidon kept in shape, so the view was nice, and the specifics of his anatomy seemed to keep certain...things from view, but then that only begged the question of how? And what? Was that sort of thing more shark than human, then? What sort of anatomy in that regard did sharks even have? Or since he was from a different world, maybe it was completely different. Maybe he didn't even have reproductive organs as she had come to know them. Maybe she could have gone her whole life without having to sit there selling prom tickets and wondering about shark genetalia if she just hadn't been stuck selling school dance tickets with Sidon again.

She was actually really close at one point to just asking, just to get it over with, but she was stuck there all day with him and didn't need to make it more awkward than it already was. So she was just going to focus on sketching in between helping people, trying very hard to avoid anything related to marine biology.

And Sidon, who usually had no difficulty striking up conversations with even the quietest and shiest people, found himself feeling rather awkward, too, in that whenever he thought to strike up a conversation with Astrid to pass the time, he'd turn to her and then stop and become thoroughly fascinated by her hair. He didn't have hair; Vette didn't, either, and he'd never really paid much attention to it at all, but then every time he was about to say something, Astrid would be curled over her sketchbook, her long, long hair spilling over her face like a waterfall or a curtain, and it just sucked him right up. Her hair was absolutely fascinating, and he found himself wondering what it would be like to run a hand through it, almost thinking to ask if he could in fact touch it, but he didn't want to bother her. Was it soft? It looked soft, and beautiful, and so blonde. She looked like a Hylian princess. It was captivating, though in a way that he felt he shouldn't quite be so captivated by it.

So if anyone needed tickets, the two very quiet, very awkward individuals at the table with the big sparkly PROM TICKETS ON SALE NOW banner would be more than happy to help.

Please.

Anyone.

An awful lot had changed for Sidon in the approximate year between bouts of this particular Fandom quirkiness. Well, perhaps it was really only the one thing, and it was a big one, and, if he was completely honest, the feelings and emotions and sense of utter longing and desire were not too dissimilar to something he'd been feeling for a while now, only...amplified. And at first, he didn't think much of it. It was only natural, after all; here he was, a young, strong, virile prince in his budding prime, wildly, madly in love with the most magnificent, brilliant, astonishing, beautiful, wonderful person he had ever had the honor and privlege to have met. If he didn't wake up every morning absolutely overflowing with passionate feelings in that regard, well, then, something was clearly wrong.

Today, though, he had to admit, there certainly seemed to be something much more in it. An almost overwhelming drive to it, which was say a lot, for him. Perhaps it was just the day. It was warm again, the kind of weather that sent his whole body practically lurching for the sea, yes, yes, a swim would be perfect today, what an excellent use of his energy, diving under the water, testing his speed, his distance, his height as he lept into the water and came crashing down, all the marine life scattering in his wake, except perhaps a few brave, curious ones looking for...

...and that's what stopped him. Yes, all of this energy was quite familiar to him lately, but there was that something extra there that suddenly reminded him of the last time, around this time of year, where he'd spent nearly all his time in the water...

...and there had been...a dolphin.

It was...awkward.

And if he went for a swim now and there were more dolphins, then it was likely to get exponentially more awkward.

Soooo....right. No swimming today! Which was unfortunate, because swimming certainly was one of Sidon's most effective ways of taking care of his energy when his energy was even too energetic for himself. But he had to do something about it, lest he'd wind up tracking down Vette after her class and likely behaving in a way that would be most undignified and un-prince-like.

Behavior he may have spent much longer thinking about just then before, feeling very glad that Zora weren't prone to things like blushing, chastising himself and making a very firm decision for a much more...appropriate alternative.

To the salle! Where some hard work with the long shaft of his trident was sure to help him expend some of this energy in the most beneficial way, to help keep his mind of swimming and dolphins and girlfriends and everything else.

Though, really, it was effectively just him going through the motions aggressively while thinking of a million and one different ways to shower Vette with affection this week. Because she was definitely going to get showered with affection at every opportunity he could find. There was a downright storm coming.

So the idea had been tossed around between Astrid and Sabine about a potential random party on the sixth floor, because why not, and there was apparently a party-a-month quota to be met. Monday might be a weird day for a party, but it wasn't like this place held to a tradtional sort of school schedule, and Mondays were usually the days that Astrid needed something like this, anyway, since she actually did wind up with more of a traditional sort of school day. It actually hadn't been too bad this week, though, and she didn't think looking forward to the party had anything to do with it. Because, if she was honest, she was feeling more apprehensive than excited.

She supposed, if no one showed up, and it was just her and Sabine vegging out on all the Chinese food they'd gotten (this time with egg rolls, and plenty of fortune cookies), looking at and admiring the art on her tarot cards, well, then, that would be fine by her, really. But, since she didn't know how well she could depend on that weird thing that happened when people just knew where to find the food when it arrived at the doors, she had oh-so-handwavily made up little individual cards, a hand-painted tarot face on one side, and the simple words "Monday Night, Sixth Floor" on the other.

Mysterious. Enigmatic. Probably the source of disappointment for at least a few people when they followed the cards and discovered it was just some half-assed party, but, hey, it got the word out, and Astrid had enjoyed spending the weekend making them. It wasn't like she was plannning on doing anything but drawing and painting, anyway.

She was also wearing her mother's white kimono, laying a cloth over a short coffee table, and laying out her cards with a bit of trepidation and regret. She probably could have gone back on the idea that she'd offer to read the fortune of anyone who was interested, but, at the same time, she was a little curious as to how it would go, and it wasn't ike many people were likely to show up, anyway....

There was a large red Zora prince sleeping on the couch of the fourth floor common room that morning, because a large red Zora prince's sleeping tank was still full of hot chocolate by the time he was ready for bed. And the couch in the common room seemed a marginally better choice than simply sleeping on the floor.

That margin, it turned out, had been very thin, indeed. But the dull ache of unconventional furniture and the desire to just sit under showers in the bathrooms for a better part of the day wasn't the only thing that eventually brought Sidon out of his not-very-restful slumber. There was also the trio of gremlins standing not too far off to the side, belting out rather loudly and growlingly, something he assumed to be some sort of holiday song.

They were passionate about it, too, Sidon had to admire that, as well as the fact that they seemed far more interested in singing at the moment than attempting to bite him. As well as the last one had managed to turn out for him in the end, he rather appreciated waking up quite himself, although not exactly in the usual place, instead of thinking himself entirely different.

He sat up from the couch, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes, and applauding politely as the gremlins seemed to finish their song, getting ready to fend them off if their attentions now turned to chomping. But he relaxed easily as they launched into another one, although now he faced the problem of the fact that it would be terribly rude to get up in the middle of their performance, and so he remained, sitting awkwardly, sleepily, uncomfortably, a tolerating smile plastered on his face as he listened and planned how to execute his escape once they finished with this one.

The weather that day was actually fairly nice, not really terribly cold at all, and, having pretty much resigned himself to the idea that winter was going to stick around for good, Sidon was going to take advantage of it. He felt like he kept saying that there weren't many more days like this left, only to be then offered another one, and he was certainly not going to complain.

He was also not going to do much while outside on the desk, but that was par for the course. He was mostly just going to enjoy it, enjoy the view, and do some thinking. He did, after all, have an awful lot to think about, but first and foremost in his mind, today at least, was how the semester would be ending soon. There's be a winter break before the next one, and it seemed like an awful long time since he'd planned a trip home with his friends. And he had quite a few new friends (and some old ones that hadn't been on the list last time) that should get a chance to see Hyrule, and get away from the cold weather.

Even though he knew it was just a silly school assignment, one that truthfully didn't have any bearing on anything of any real significance in the world, Sidon couldn't help finding himself wholly dedicated to his little robot baby for Ethics class. Perhaps it was just what happened when you were the product of a war-torn world; his memories of the Calamity were fuzzy, it was true, but there was no denying that he's lost a great deal. All of Hyrule had, and they'd spent decades just trying to rebuild. So new life was precious; every new soul made the hope for the future that much stronger. So he took it seriously, even if he knew deep down it wasn't real. It made him feel better, like he was doing something good, anyway.

Besides, he'd kind of grown a little fond of little Steelquake Hazelburp Gentletoes the Third from the moment he discovered she wouldn't potentially kill him from electrical shock. And in the last twenty four hours, she had quickly become the most spoiled robot baby probably to ever be assigned to a student at this school. He couldn't help it! He wanted to make sure her every little need was met (and not just because the wailing sound they made was really quite terrible). And it wouldn't all be a waste, either, since he planned to ask Miss Syndulla and Mr. Jarrus if they knew of any places on the mainland where he could donate all of Steelquake's things once the assignment was over, so they could then go to another child who might be in need.

He's even taken some time to study up on how humans raised their children, generally, which was a rather broad category, it turned out! But, since he was the parent here, he wanted to make sure she had a good solid Zora upbringing in their short time together, too. And that meant being reared communally, which was why they were going to be spending their time in the common room today, where could set down some blankets and pillows for Steelquake, surrounding her with many of the toys he'd picked up for her, especially the stuffed animals, especially all the ocean themed ones, the fish and the sharks and octopi and crabs, and he certainly hoped Steelquake would have a great love for stories, because stories was what she was getting, eagerly and boldly told with the sea critters dancing in front of her as they became the actors for the marvelous tales he was weaving.

And though it obviously kept her quiet and entertained, it was pretty clear which one of them was enjoying it more.

Spoiler alert: it wasn't Steelquake Hazelburp Gentletoes the Third.

One thing that came easily for a race that lived to be hundreds of years old was patience; no need to rush into things when time stretched so long and languid. Still, Sidon had always been a bit different from other Zora in that respect, considered quite impulsive and restless for his kind. And the last week...a week! Such a small unit of time, barely a blink in the grand scheme of it all, and yet, and yet...had certainly felt like a true test for what his limited patience was capable of. He supposed it was a good thing, too, in the long run, that fate had made it that he and Vette's paths did not cross often during the regular course of these weeks; if they did, he didn't know if he could hold himself back and give her the space and time that he felt she needed. Even the things he did to occupy himself through the week--his classes, his work, his training, getting in as much swimming as he could before the inevitable onset of his dry, oceanless winters here--seemed less like distractions and more like inspirations, filling his head with a million different things that would be incredibly difficult not to just bombard her with the next time he saw her.

He was going to insist on that swimming lesson, at the very least; that much he decided, because it also had the benefit of being practical and necessary and also on a deadline, since they didn't have many good outdoor swimming days left.

Or enjoyable, comfortable outdoor days left in general, for that matter, which was why Sidon was planning to spend as much time outside as he could before the weather became unbearable. Today was nice, though, with a cloudy cover that gave him the hope for rain, so he would be loathed to spend too much time inside.

He wasn't doing much more than just standing there, enjoying the fresh air and trying to sort through all the thoughts he'd been putting aside throughout the week, but that was typically what Zora tended to do with all that time they had, anyway.

As much as Ariel appreciated the fact that her true love was very eager to get her inside the castle so they could have some time to themselves, she knew there'd be plenty of time for that later, and she didn't want to waste the fact that she could finally use her voice again. She wanted to stay out and about and talk to people, experience the world out of the sea and ask them so many questions, so they worked out a compromise: they'd return to the 'dorms,' as he called them, but they could still stay outside, where hopefully she would meet other people and learn all about them and ask all of her burning questions.

In the meantime, her prince was not nearly as helpful as she would have hoped, as she strung out her endless series of questions between excited, snuggling embraces, adoring little kisses, running her fingers through his soft hair. It was kind of cute, actually, he seemed so embarrassed, but why would he be? He'd broken the curse, clearly they were destined to be together, there was nothing to be embarrassed about! And she did love listening to him, talking about this thing called 'jogging' that he did when she asked about going for long walks, and about food, and animals, and the school, and everything, really.

And so there they were, one large Zora prince thinking he was a very small mermaid princess, clinging adoringly and admiringly to a poor small blonde boy who had clearly resigned himself to his fate and was just praying that the effects of a gremlin bite didn't last too long. Maybe, he hoped, since Sidon was so big, it wouldn't effect him as much? Only time would tell, time which seemed to be stretching out awfully slowly as he tried to laugh it off and play along, and not just die of embarrassment before this was all over.

"I swear, Sidon," Astrid said, trying very hard not to sigh as she smoothed out a bill on the table where she sat with the Zora Prince and a crab he claimed to be Norman Babcock, "just...let me handle the money, okay? You're getting the bills all damp and then they either crumple up or stick together."

"Which wouldn't be a problem," Sidon offered with an apologetic smile, "if this place considered converting to a non-paper currency. That's the nice thing about rupees; they're hard, so it makes no difference if they get a little wet!"

"That's true," Astrid allowed, "but good luck fitting a pile of rupees into your wallet and into your back pocket."

At which point, Norman scuttled over to hand her another one of the bills, and she nodded. "Thanks, Norman," she said, smoothing that one out and setting it aside to dry with all the others.

And this was her life now. Sitting at table selling homecoming tickets, collecting court ballots, and discussing otherworldly currencies with a giant red shark prince and a ghost crab who used to be a boy. This school certainly had its ways of making her want to just give up on the idea that she'd ever had a grip on sanity to begin with.

Once again, Sabine's stuff had gone missing, and she'd decided it was the day to actually look through the common rooms and see if it was somewhere there somehow. And once she got to the sixth floor, a floor she wasn't even sure she'd realized they had, she found a party set up. There was food, there were drinks, there was music going, there were even vaguely partyish decorations strung up.

But no one was here, and she looked around before getting out her phone and sending a group text to the dorms: Did someone throw a party on the sixth floor and forget to tell anyone? Because there's one waiting up here.

So, maybe she'd wait for people and see if they knew what was up? And anyway, there was free food and drink, so she went to grab a soda, and spotted a familiar symbol on a cap. "Hey, this is mine."

The time for vacation, for relaxation and fun and enjoying oneself, was over; Sidon had fulfilled that part of his promise to Mipha, and now it was time for him to focus on the other part, the part he had been neglecting, the part that was more important than almost anything else, and that was making sure he was ready, making sure he was prepared, for that inevitable moment when Calamity Ganon broke free from his tether to the castle and attempted to wreck his havoc on the broken and devastated Hyrule once again.

They didn't know when it would happen; they had no way of knowing how much time they had. But he did know that he could prepare, even while away, and that meant ensuring his was strong, he was quick, he knew his weapons and had not gotten rusty. So he went down to the salle that afternoon with the intention of training until he could barely move, alternating between trident and sword and bow, on dry land rather than the more comfortable water, because that was where he needed to work on things the most. The odds that the Calamity would strike out conveniently located next to a body of water were slim, even with the vast waterways that laced their way across Hyrule.

He'd brought the Currently-a-Crab Norman with him as well, not with the intention of fighting or sparring with him, of course, but just because he figured Norman would like to get out of the tank and the room for a little bit, enjoy some fresh air and move around, stretch out his claws. "Try not to venture too far, Norman," Sidon noted, grinning as he set down his crabby friend and exchange him for his trident, feeling the weight of it in his hands again and feeling very right about it, really. "I trust you can find your way back, of course, but I imagine the task of stairs would be quite the tricky challenge for you right at this moment."

And then he set, diligent, determined, dedicated, to the training, quite certain he'd be feeling it quite a bit in the morning, but knowing it was worth it, knowing it was necessary.

The rains continued to fall over Zora's Domain from the newly awaken Vah Ruta; Sidon knew this deep in his heart, as if he could hear the gentle patter of the droplets on the waters of the kingdom. No rain here, it would seem, though he wished there was. It would help him to feel a little bit better if the weather matched his mood a little better. He tried not to so morose, he had hoped his class earlier would distract him well enough, but it was not meant to be. He was having those dreams again, the ones that surfaced every so often, but not so much while he was here except directly after a trip home. Dreams of his sister, but there was...something else there, too, that he couldn't quite place, that was very different from normal, almost a longing, a calling...and he wasn't sure what to make of it. He didn't feel necessarily bad, either, and he almost always felt a sense of doom when those dreams visited him. This time, it was almost a reassurance, like someone was telling him not to be worried, that it would all be okay.

Very strange, indeed.

Going for a swim, it seemed, only seemed to make him remember more, and whatever it was he felt like searching for certainly wasn't there, either. He decided perhaps to settle for a while on the deck, hope a distraction came in the form of other people passing to and fro from the dormitory, and, in case that hope failed, in the pages of an Earth book relevant to his interests to try to work through to pass the time, half-wondering what it could all mean.

The weather had gotten drearier over the past few weeks, and that suited Aloy just fine. Too much sunshine wasn't good for the land - regardless of what the people of this time did to keep the food and drinks flowing freely.

No, a rainy morning was fine. She'd been tinkering on something that might be a step towards plugging herself into the portal system for a while now. She took the device, a mess of wires and two skillfully autopsied phones, and sat down with it on the porch.

Her Focus was on, showing her a multitude of facts about the device she was working on, and helping her block out the world.

As usual, Sidon had made arrangement to return to Zora's Domain during the interval between semesters; as much as he loved the island, living on land was so strange and he couldn't help be homesick quite frequently. It would be good to return for a while, and this time by himself so he could simply enjoy being with his people without entertaining his friends, as wonderful as it had been to have them there last time. Besides, his last correspondence with Muzu sounded...a bit troubled. Vah Ruta was...acting strangely, he said, though Sidon wasn't entirely certain what that could mean. Whatever it was, though, perhaps it was best if he could focus on that.

It never took him long to get ready, considering he didn't ever have much to pack, though he did have a small satchel filled with small gifts for his people, nothing special, just toys and trinkets, especially for the little hatchlings. But he still had some time before his portal was ready and he hated being cooped up inside the dorms, especially now that he was feeling anxious and excited. So he was waiting outside on the deck for a little while, contemplating a swim but not wanting to wind up dripping water all over the Portalocity Office floor.

Thankfully, he did have a small puzzle toy that had caught his attention with its bright colors, but those colors, he realized, were quite the lure into a rather complicated and frustrating mess. He'd heard tales of the Ancients making complex puzzles within Shrines for heroes to solve, but if they were even remotely as difficult as this on, why, then, he wondered how Ancient heroes managed to get anything done at all!

After her long swim, Uma was feeling slightly more like she could handle interacting with people without wanting to pounce on them. So rather than holing up in her room after showering the salt and sand off, she stopped in only long enough to grab her supplies and then made her way into the common room to rebraid her hair. Back home, she'd trained Gil and Harry to help, which made the process go by a lot faster. She didn't have anyone here to help, but at least she had the TV and could find something that wasn't Auradon propaganda to pass the hours while she worked on her hair.

Bonus if someone came by with more food than they knew what to do with, which seemed to happen a lot.

Being without electricity didn't bother Sidon too much; there wasn't much of it in Hyrule, and what there was (usually in the raw form of lightning) was practically lethal to the Zora. But there was one aspect of it that he'd grown rather used to and found extremely important, especially now that he was without it: heating his sleeping tank. Oh, how he'd taken that small luxury for granted! So now he was sleeping on dry ground, still chilled to the bone, honestly surprised that he didn't have to break a film of ice off the top of the tank with how frigid the water had become.

Thus the reason he'd migrated to the common room, blankets thrown over his shoulders, huddled in front of the TV-turned-fireplace for warmth, eating still-frozen fishsticks out of a bad.

He knew it wasn't likely to be a treat for many people here, but for him, the little delicacy made his current misery somewhat more tolerable.

Paris was opening cabinet doors and muttering under her breath as Lucky Charms cereal continued to fall out, even from doors she'd already opened. "That doesn't make sense," she told the door.

Which didn't talk back, much to her unspoken relief. "I'm not eating this for breakfast," she announced to the ceiling. "If I wanted to go into a sugar coma, I'd just hit the pixie stix like a normal person!"

The weather was still a little chilly, but it was raining a little, so it would have been rather foolish for Sidon to keep himself in the much drier indoors. He didn't suspect he'd have much company, but he was also quite satisfied to just stand on the edge of the deck, looking out at the preserve and just enjoying the rejuvenating feel of water all over his lately-too-parched skin.

If this was what the end of winter was like around here, then he had to admit, he was a very big fan of it!

Uma had been sent flowers. Yeah, she'd gotten them hours ago, but she still didn't know why she'd gotten them. Or what to do with them. This was the first time she'd seen real flowers, never mind had any of her own.

Flowers needed...water, right? Yeah, that sounded good. She was just going to bang around the common room, looking for a cup or something big enough to hold her...stripey, purple flowers (what kind of flowers were they? Not-roses was the only guess she had) and hope that they didn't die while she looked for something appropriate to put them in.

How fast did flowers die, exactly? Why didn't school teach this kind of stuff?!

Thank god for Google. Summer, not currently living in a house of mostly males or currently attached to a boyfriend, hadn't done a very good job of keeping up with football this season, but it took all of two seconds to look up how to decorate for the party. It wasn't that she didn't like football; it was alright and she found herself getting into the games when she did watch it, she just usually didn't care. But she couldn't pass up the chance to throw another party, no matter how indifferent she was on the subject matter.

So the decorations were up, the pizzas and snacks spread out, and the main TV was set up for the actual Superbowl game and the pregame stuff. And then she'd managed to drag up another TV from somewhere else and set up a separate area of the room for the better Puppybowl game, which she hooked up to be played in rotation with occasional check-ins on the Fish Bowl and the Kitten Bowl.

Food. Drinks. Men in tight pants on one side, adorable animals on the other side. Seriously. How could she not have done this? Even if no one else showed up, she was still going to have a good time.

So, Summer had planned to go out for decorating for her New Years party, but Summer underestimated Summer's own laziness, and anyone coming in the room could clearly see where she started with all the streamers and glitter and balloons and where she started to just lose interest and get bored and just kind of said 'fuck it.' It really didn't help that it turned out her name for the party was too long even for the banner, so there hung over the food table something that just simply read: "New Years Party All Night Because Who Even Cares Tha"

Which seemed appropriate enough.

She didn't get lazy about the food, though, and she definitely didn't get lazy about the drinks, so there was that. And so now she just had to hope everyone got the invitation in some way or another and that they'd show up but people here were weird about parties. But, hey, she'd take partying by herself if it came down to it over sitting in her room by herself on New Years Eve.

Take it easy, the staff at the clinic had said. Let yourself heal, they said. No problem, Sidon had said, flashing a grin and a pump of his fist that sent his injured shoulder screaming and him falling back on the pillow with pain.

So he was going to take it easy. But taking it easy, he was discovering, was not so easy at all!

He wanted to fight; he wanted to train and get better because Sunday had been far too close of a call for comfort, and he kept hearing Mipha's soft, proud voice in his head, Sweet Sidon, should fate ever part us, I'm counting on you...to protect our beloved home from harm.

I believe in you.

What if Breq hadn't been there? Who would protect Zora's Domain if he had perished so young and foolishly? He needed to be stronger, he needed to be smarter.

And he needed to heal. That, just then, was the hardest part for him, and he was getting restless staying in his tank all day, and he couldn't really swim because it would be too taxing for his body and too cold right now anyway. He could eat, though, and he had some sushi he'd picked up on the way home waiting in the fridge, and he had decided it might be a good time to brush up on his English reading, so he had a terrifyingly good book to keep him distracted. He knew things got a little quieter in the breaks between semesters, but perhaps someone would be about and keep him company eventually if he curled up on the couch (well..."curl" was a very...relative word in his case) in the common room for a bit to pass a little time.

And heal.

Sidon was feeling quite restless, perhaps due to the strangeness of a holiday that one didn't celebrate seeming to call people away or otherwise occupy them. He supposed he could have gone out for a swim, that always did the trick, but, at the same time, he had truly been neglecting some of his weapons work. His soldiers would all be so disappointed in him! Bazz and Tottika, Rivan and Dunma, all of them!.

Luckily, there was a decent solution to this laziness on his part in the form of the salle, and he did not at all have difficulty finding a suitable long weapon to practice in the styles he liked best. A few practice dummies here and there that he could pretend were lizalfos and octoroks and moblins, and he was good to go, ready to get in a good rounds of fighting and forms, and then maybe finishing up with a cool relaxing dip in the pond on campus. And once he got started, he couldn't imagine having spent his day any other way!

Breq had heard the voices of children this morning. It definitely wasn't the strangest thing she had experienced here, and as she was anyway spending the morning in the common room watching music videos on the TV, she decided to put some extra breakfast food on the table. If any children should show up they could help themselves. For herself, Breq made tea, and then made herself comfortable on the couch.

Music videos were an interesting combination of songs and entertainments. They were easy to watch, and a perfect combination with breakfast. Hopefully the sound wouldn't wake up any students who were trying to sleep in.

Even Sidon had to admit, through all of his hard work and dedication and studying, his ability to read and interpret English writing had improved immensely over the past few weeks. He wasn't exactly ready to sit down and enjoy a lengthy novel or anything like that, but signs were easier and little details here and there like looking into the history of the island and the school and noticing that there was a pool in the basement of the dormitory building. He rather enjoyed the waters around the island for swimming, but he had to admit he was a little curious about this pool and decided to spend his afternoon relaxing in it and enjoying it.

Those plans stemmed from his experiences with pools, which were usually quite naturally occurring in nature, under the shadow of a mountain, or like the one underneath the courtyard in Zora's Domain, where swift-lotus grew and hot-footed frogs swam among the lily pads. It did not take long for his assumptions to start to prove wrong, though, as the building remained very much in that bulky architecture of humans, so different from the delicate and graceful work of the Zora. And then there was the smell. By the goddesses, that smell was one of the most foul things Sidon had ever had the displeasure of smelling, and he had been inside the belly of an octorok before! He hadn't even reached the pool yet, and he already had reservations, thinking of just turning back now and heading for the port instead.

But, no, he was already here, might as well check it out, and then be fully, completely, and wholly disappointed by the large, boring, concrete monstrosity that the pool ended up being. And he realized that the awful smell was coming directly from the water itself. He knelt down beside the pool, dipping a hand in, wincing at the acrid aroma as he lifted the water in his palm to his nose for closer inspection.

And nearly tumbled back from the violent reaction of disgust.

"Poison!" he declared in shock. "This water has been poisoned!"

Someone was not a fan of chlorine.

The need for parties and the social status assumed to go along with them was probably the easiest part of roboSummer's programming, easily the best lynch pin that connected the two Summer, that would make someone look at her eagerness to host a party and thinking yup, definitely Summer, nothing wrong here! She'd decked the place out with glitter and streamers, started pumping some sweet tunes, and made sure all the food and beverages were readily available and spread out on the table and counters.

And now all she needed was people.

...she really hoped there would be people, but, unlike OG Summer, she would definitely survive if there weren't.

Since FH has existed for a Very Long time, some of our communities have a Very Long list of tags -- enough to bump up against Dreamwidth's tag limits for free comms. [community profile] fandomhighdorms is one of them.

This list is our best solution for that issue short of always maintaining a paid account: we've gone through the tags for dropped characters only and deleted all of them that were only used 5 times or less. (Should we near the tag limit again, we may increase that number, but it seems unlikely to happen given the original buildup took ten years.)

Don't worry, though! You can still find all the posts from those characters without having to hunt them down on your own. We've replaced those tags with a chronological list of URLs for each post in which the character was tagged.

So if you don't see a character tag on the Tags Page, check here! (Or if you just prefer to read the scrolly version of posts, the old-style tags are still intact on LJ.) If you don't see it on any of the lists, then either they didn't appear in any posts in Dorms, or they did, but weren't tagged.
