Second floor common room, Saturday

It was a quiet day today, so Lana went to the common room and got some tea, then set up the new laptop computer she'd just acquired and started looking up things.

Including how to get the thing to do some things it apparently didn't. Honestly, why was all the display technology here so...flat?

The TV was on in the background, but she was ignoring it.

"Mm." Lana nodded. "I can use the ones in the library, and this doesn't seem too different, but - I mean, it's touch-controllable, but only partly, and the colours are wonderful, but it's all flat. I really can't figure out how this world's tech developed."

She shook her head. "How have you been?"

"Pretty good," she said, and she actually meant it for once. "The last round of weird stuff missed me, and I've been working a lot. Can't complain. How about you?"

"Well, the last round of weird did not miss me, but it wasn't too bad, apart from taking forever to get anywhere. The Force came in handy. I got eyed over by a Jedi Master at that party the other week, but she didn't try to slice me in two, so I suppose that went fairly well. And classes have been interesting. Although still no shooting," she noted with a grin.

"I'm hoping for shooting next week as penance for the animal thing," Sabine said with a little sigh, coming back from the fridge with a Coke. "It's only fair."

She was maybe being a little dramatic about the animal thing.

"That animal thing was...very strange," Lana said. "I can only hope it never actually happens to me."

"It's not entirely terrible," Sabine conceded. "Except for the lack of opposable thumbs, and changing back."

"Has it happened to you, then?" Lana asked.

[seriesofbaddecisions]

"I was a bird for about a week. Flying was fun. You get some really great perspectives that way."

Of course that was how she looked at it.

"I suppose you would." Lana nodded. "Still, the opposable thumbs and ability to talk are something I'd miss."

"Yeah... not a lot of fun trying to tell your roommate you need something-" Or that you really were her roommate, please stop trying to shoo her out. "-when all you can do is chirp."

"I wonder how it chooses which animals to make us," Lana said. "And if what we were in class will be what we are later on."

"I was the same thing as before because I was too lazy to look for an icon," Sabine said, "but it's Fandom, so I think it does whatever it wants, whenever it wants."

Lana sighed. "True enough. You'd think anything with enough of a mind for that would be reachable through the Force, but if it is, I haven't found a way yet."

Sabine considered that. "Would you know if it was more of a magic thing? I don't know how any of that works."

"Not a clue." Lana shrugged. "I'm honestly not sure how the magic thing works, either. It seems like it should at least be related to the Force, but I don't seem to feel it the same way."

"And it seems like there's so many different kinds of it from other places... I couldn't even begin to figure it out." Especially since when people started talking about it, it was interesting, but it didn't really affect her so it just stayed interesting and that was it.

"I'd love to learn more about it, but I wouldn't even know where to begin," Lana said. "I've tried the library, but the books all seem to assume a basic understanding I don't have."

"You'd think they would have stuff that would help new kids out more," Sabine frowned.

[unusual_sith]

"They have a few useful things," Lana said, "but apparently not about this."
