Second floor common room, Saturday

It was a quiet day today, so Lana went to the common room and got some tea, then set up the new laptop computer she'd just acquired and started looking up things.

Including how to get the thing to do some things it apparently didn't. Honestly, why was all the display technology here so...flat?

The TV was on in the background, but she was ignoring it.

Sabine has planned on just grabbing a drink from the fridge, but now she had to actually stop. "New toy?"

"Mm." Lana nodded. "I can use the ones in the library, and this doesn't seem too different, but - I mean, it's touch-controllable, but only partly, and the colours are wonderful, but it's all flat. I really can't figure out how this world's tech developed."

She shook her head. "How have you been?"

"Pretty good," she said, and she actually meant it for once. "The last round of weird stuff missed me, and I've been working a lot. Can't complain. How about you?"

So, her roommate had been off... somewhere... for a while, having fled the room temporarily as Nina was wont to do, which meant that Vette was kind of left at loose ends, and was feeling social without actually being terribly social. Whatever that meant.

But at least she had an ongoing project to work on. Which was why she was gathering up the little droid processor she'd been tinkering at for some time now and she was making her way to the common room with it, intending to settle in, maybe order some tacos, and just work on cleaning some more of the crud out and replacing shorted wiring in the possible company of other persons.

"Oh, hey," she greeted, nodding as she walked in, pleased that this plan, as of yet, appeared to be working out.

[chirpchirpchirp]

"Good day for playing with toys in the common room," Vette announced. "Where's yours?"

Vette, those would be explosives. Those were not a common room toy.

"Hello." Lana smiled and moved over to give her some room at the table. "Is that a droid?"

"You really don't want me doing that here," she told her. "I can supervise you guys, though."

"Well, the last round of weird did not miss me, but it wasn't too bad, apart from taking forever to get anywhere. The Force came in handy. I got eyed over by a Jedi Master at that party the other week, but she didn't try to slice me in two, so I suppose that went fairly well. And classes have been interesting. Although still no shooting," she noted with a grin.

[chirpchirpchirp]

"Make sure I don't raise some kind of unstoppable droid army?" Vette grinned. "I probably need all the supervision I can get."

[chirpchirpchirp]

"Well, it was one, once upon a time, I think," Vette replied, holding up the processor. "Or its brain, anyway. The rest of it is... space, I don't actually know. I did find the rusty old husk of a drink serving probe the other week at the scrapyard, though. So I might almost have enough parts to restore it to... something."

She squinted at it.

"Right about now if I was still on Nar Shaddaa I'd just wait around outside until a mouse rolled on by and tuck that little guy under one arm for my own nefarious purposes."

"I'm hoping for shooting next week as penance for the animal thing," Sabine said with a little sigh, coming back from the fridge with a Coke. "It's only fair."

She was maybe being a little dramatic about the animal thing.

"Now that you've said that, I should check: is that still your first droid?" Sabine (half) teased.

[chirpchirpchirp]

"Oh, no, this is at least number twenty-three," Vette replied, completely full of it. "I lost track somewhere around the time my fifth Annihilator T4-1D went completely off the rails."

A wistful sigh.

"Now I wish I really had an Annihilator T4-1D. I'd take it for walks."

It would murder everything.

"I'm not even sure what that is and yet it feels like a bad idea. In general." The word 'Annihilator' was a clue.

[chirpchirpchirp]

"They're security droids," Vette offered. "Four legs, two arms, lots of guns..."

They were horrifying, Sabine. Just trust this.

Lana laughed. "I don't know, some of those little things can be vicious."

Everybody loved mouse droids.

"That animal thing was...very strange," Lana said. "I can only hope it never actually happens to me."

"It's a bad idea," she confirmed.

"It's not entirely terrible," Sabine conceded. "Except for the lack of opposable thumbs, and changing back."

[chirpchirpchirp]

"It's a terrible idea," Vette agreed brightly. "That's why this guy is a probe droid processor that I'm gonna try to rig up some kind of cheap probe or mouse or gonk chassis for, assuming I can even get it to function again. It was in pretty rough shape. It's no wonder it was scrapped."

[chirpchirpchirp]

"So fierce," Vette laughed. "Maybe it might run over somebody's foot in vengeance."

"Has it happened to you, then?" Lana asked.

[unusual_sith]

"Maybe," Lana agreed, laughing. "Or just bump into their ankles a lot."

"How's bringing it back to life going?" she asked, peering at it.

[seriesofbaddecisions]

"I was a bird for about a week. Flying was fun. You get some really great perspectives that way."

Of course that was how she looked at it.
