Third Floor Common Room; Monday Morning [09/16].
Wayne already got up at stupid o'clock in the morning, out of habit more'n anything else, since it wasn't like he had a whole lot of chorin' to do around here, but he'd gotten up just a bit earlier than usual to prep for this week's breakfast. He'd gotten that bug in his brain about maybe mixing things up a little bit, and the omelettes he'd make as he went along, but the quiches he was planning on making would take some doing, and he wanted to make sure they were ready by the time people usually started showing up for breakfast.
Sometimes, it was okay to make some alterations to tradition; helped keep it from getting boring. But it had also been pointed out to him that some things shouldn't be deviated from, and he couldn't agree more, so there were also plenty of pancakes on the way, as well. It officially couldn't be Monday Morning Breakfast without pancakes.
This time around, though, he was taking some of those rainbow sprinkles you put on ice cream and sprinkling them onto the pancakes as he poured them, to make them fun and colorful. Sure, Nina might not have appreciated the purple pancakes as much as he'd thought she might, but Delirium had, and so the sprinkles were mostly for her.
So there.

shamelessly assumedbare hand, that she was stuffing her face with.Half of what made this breakfast bonding ritual tolerable was that most of it was at least eaten with cutlery.
She had to admit, though, whatever it was she was eating smelled amazing, but she wasn't sure how much of that was just how sparse her diet had been since getting here talking.
But Tisarwat smiled, strained as it was. "It's Tisarwat," she offered. "How are you this morning?"
And after a brief pause: "You brought your own food?"
That definitely made her feel better about her potential plan of doing the same, if she ever managed to get this whole cooking thing to work out for her.

Truthfully, she's doing it to annoy Wayne. "I'm Eleanor Shellstrop. From Arizona."
no subject
"That's smart," she said, looking back at Eleanor with a nod of approval. "The last thing you'll want is to be beholden to someone at an inconvenient time. If anything, you'll want it to be the other way around, have them be the ones to owe you something."
Which she supposed she could now have thanks to the tea she brought, not that she could ever imagine a situation where she'd hold tea over Wayne's head.
"I'm not sure exactly where Arizona is," she then admitted, "but I'm not exactly from here, either."

Talking cats was a thing with her at the moment.

"Different universe," she offered with a nod, "but no talking cats. Not that I know of, anyway."
And she would know, if anyone did.
"It's called the Radch. And it's incredibly vast, even if no one here has ever heard of it, except for the two other people," her shoulders squared a little as if in defiance with that emphasis, "on this island that are also from there. Although they are from a different time than I am."
Which meant they had no idea who she was, and she knew all too much about who they were, which was...an adjustment.

Sorry if that was icky for you Tisarwat.
"How'd you end up here then? Earth doesn't seem like the greatest place for people from other planets."

The thousands-of-years-old part was just having regrets.
"There was a mistake," she finally managed to get out, somewhat hollow, somewhat dry. "Malfunctioning gate. I'm almost positive I was not supposed to end up here."
Fleet Captain would never do that to her...
....she hoped.

And then she picked up another mooby muffin to chow down on.
"So are your from the future or another dimension? Do you have an Earth? Do they still have the lottery?"
no subject
"I think," she said, "it's a combination of both? There's definitely no planet called Earth in the Radch, anyway."
And, again, she would know.
"But the Radch has been in power for thousands of years, so who even knows what existed thousands of years before then? As for lotteries..." Why lotteries? Did Eleanor just have a proclivity to gamble? To take chances, to make risks? That could be useful, if that were the case, "we have them, but only some systems. It's not exactly a universal thing."

Then again it could be that threatening to set them on fire had something to do with it.

"You mean, like using a knowledge of the future to benefit you in the past?"
Now, didn't that just go kicking up an idea in her head that wouldn't quite be fully formed until the weekend.
"Do they even keep a record of that sort of thing in a school library?"
