3rd Floor Common Room, Monday Morning
Was Nina messing with tradition?
Nina was super messing with tradition!
Partly because she'd woken up early, confirmed that everyone was as they should be (and that Foomy was no longer… what… he'd been…) and then been unable to get back to sleep and partly because after last week's sprinkles, she'd decided that enough was enough and that clearly Wayne needed a break!
So she got to the common room first!
She was, after all, perfectly capable of making delicious and healthy pancakes and waffles, and sausage and bacon and scrambled eggs herself and cutting up fruit really took no effort at all and if it wasn't as fancy as Wayne's quiche, well, she was confident that it was at least tasty.
Out of consideration for what Tisarwat had told her about gloves and their properness, just in case the other girl showed up, Nina was cooking while wearing gloves. Not her pretty, fancy ones. But a simple black pair, ones that wouldn't show a stain too badly, if it came to that.
Nina hummed as she bopped along to a song only in her head.

And so he made his way down to the common room, thinking of what he could put together since he was too busy questing to go grocery shopping yesterday, and then stopped stock still just a few steps through the doorway when he realized that someone else was already there. And that someone else was already making breakfast.
He took a moment to pull out his phone to check the time, thinking mebbe he was just running late (impossible, he was never late), and, sure enough, right on schedule. So he put his phone back into his back pocket, slipped his thumbs into his beltloops, squinted a little, and asked, somewhat warily, "Nina....how are ya now?"
no subject
"Wayne, hi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" she chirped happily. "I'm great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How are you doing??????????????? Did you want breakfast??????????"
no subject
"I'd have some breakfast," he said, easily enough, as he moved in to check for signs of shellfish that might have been tossed into those there pancakes. Which, if Nina was cooking, no doubt that there was. He then considered Nina, his squint going perhaps a bit calculating.
"Felt the need to take up the spatula yerself this morning, did ya?"
no subject
"Coming right up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" she said, suiting words to action and, hey, she was also capable of plating up a perfectly delicious looking breakfast, Wayne! "Here you are!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Her grin was going nowhere as she offered him the plate.
"Like, I totally woke up early?????????????? And decided that, like, you needed a break!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

She thought of skipping out on the whole breakfast thing this morning, but the normalcy of it would be welcome and maybe would help get her mind off of the weekend and what she would even say to Breq when she saw her next. So she made her tea in her flask, brought along one of her nice tea cups for herself, and headed up.
And blinked her lilac eyes in surprise to see the placement of things a bit upended.
"Oh," she said. "Nina. You're doing the cooking today?"

"And you're wearing gloves," she noted, blinking a bit again to make sure the mess that was her head right now wasn't just playing tricks on her.

Had she been wrong? She'd probably been wrong.
"Are you, like, okay??????????????"

"Saaaaaaaaabiiiiiiiiiiiine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" she said, around her giggles. "You mean you don't want to be a free, breezy spirit anymore????????????????"
no subject
"Can we forget literally everything I said?"

He nodded to Sabine as she came in and stepped out of the pathway to the coffee maker.
"Sabine. How are ya now?"
no subject
Since he wasn't cooking today.

There was a brief pause, though, as he sipped his coffee and considered again how weird it was to be on this side of the breakfast.
"Nina's tryin' to impress someone," he added. Even though he knew that wasn't likeleh the case, but he was making a point, and he was pretty sure if the roles were reversed, Nina'd be (and had been) telling everyone under the sun about it. "But she won't say who."

She stopped in the doorway and stared for a moment. That.. was not Wayne. Not even a little Wayne. No trace of Wayne-ness was there in that person making breakfast.
Del looked down at Barnabas, confused. "Did I miss Monday?"
"No," Barnabas assured her, "It's Monday. There's a different person making breakfast."
Del shook her head adamantly. "Then no. It's not Monday. Monday is when Wayne makes breakfast."

She didn't get it. "I think Barnabas likes your bacon better." Barnabas gave her a look. He was a dog. He liked any bacon. Though something in Delirium's tone made the look he gave her go a little more considering, and then he took himself over to Wayne so he could receive whatever pats and scritches Wayne was itching to deliver.

"It's a different Monday," Nina suggested, having cheerfully listened in on this conversation. "Like, and Wayne's still here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm sure he'd love to make you pancakes if you don't want mine, Delly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

"Good morning, Nina," Shuri said, her normal accent back.

Hey, it had the same cadence as his usual greeting. It pretty much was the exact same thing. It totally worked.
