Third Floor Common Room: Puppy Bowl Party!! - Sunday Afternoon [02/02].

It was finally here! Prompto's favorite day of the entire Earth year: PUPPY BOWL SUNDAY! It had actually almost snuck up on him, since he didn't really follow sports even back on his own planet, much less this one, and he knew it was tied in with some other apparently big sporting event, but who even cared about that when there were puppies plaiyng sports instead? Oh, man. Words could seriously not express how much he loved the Puppy Bowl. The only thing that would be better than puppies playing football would be, like....chocobos playing polo.

Note to self: look into chocobo polo leagues.

Anyway! In his excitement, he'd even gotten up early to make sure everything was set for the party, from snacks to decorations to making sure he remembered what channel it was even going to be on. And then it was a matter of just hanging out and hoping people showed up, but even if they didn't, it was still watching puppies play football, and so there was no way he could lose in a situation like that.

It would seem like a waste of a lot of paper and energy if his flyers hadn't enticed people to come, but OHHHH WEEELLLLLLLLLLLLL!

There's definitely some pre-show stuff on the TV before the big event, but the party's started early so that everyone can just hang out and chill before totally dying of complete cute overload.

Y'wanna know what? Wayne didn't really much care for Prompto; he was weird and confusing and too hyper and weird, but there was one thing that he was glad to see that he and that spare-parts little skid could see eye-to-eye on, and that was an appreciation for some good ol' bos doing what good ol' bos do best: bein' cute an' havin' fun.

And it wouldn't interfere with the regular game too much, either, because while he wasn't as big a fan of football (it wasn't like it was hawkey, after all!), he didn't exactly want to miss that, too, but if there was some overlap, he figgured he could just keep up on things on his phone.

"Wayne." Sure, Prompto didn't think Wayne really liked him very much, but he always tried to be friendly, still, especially since he knew he was friends with Nina and everything, and deep down he thought maybe Wayne might not be as gruff and mean as he seemed to be, especially since...

"I guess I shouldn't be surprised you showed up for puppies!"

HE KNEW YOU STOPPED BY THE SHELTER SOMETIMES, WAYNE. HE KNEW ALL ABOUT YOUR HANDWAVEY PUPPY RENDEVOUS!

Prompto was holidng a party with puppies?? Delightful alliteration aside, of course Sidon was going to be there ~~because I could literally populate a whole party with my own characters alone~~!

He was...a little surprised and mildly disappointed that the puppies present would all be on the television, though that had him wondering if there should be an emergency puppy run to the shelter to increase the whole...puppyness of it, but something like that seemed a project that would have required just a bit more preparation.

"S'up, Big Guy?" Prompto greeted Sidon with a grin and a lift of his hand for a high five, which was actually probably a low five on the other side, but that wasn't the point. "You ready to get your puppy bowl on?"

Tisarwat tried not to miss a party if she could help it ~~and I literally will populate this whole party with my own characters because this is the shit I do at six in the morning on a Sunday~~, even if she wasn't sure what this one was all about.

Even after looking it up on her phone, she had...questions. But she figured those questions were best answered by witnessing the event for herself.

"Tisarwat! Hey! Thanks for coming!"

Prompto hadn't seen her much since their class last semester, but it was always nice when someone showed up to your party, and she seemed pretty cool and all, for the most part.

Even if she thought his gloves were tacky.

Ghosts didn't go to parties, or at least they didn't in a way that anyone (well, that most people) would notice, but it was on the third floor, it got Astrid out of her room for a while, ~~completed the set~~, and she honestly had no idea what a Puppy Bowl was and she couldn't help being curious. If anything, she might just slip in to see what it was all about, snag some food, and slip out just as quietly as she came in, retreating up to one of the higher floors or possibly the roof while everyone else was down here.

The only problem with that plan, of course, was that once you saw the puppy bowl, it would be very difficult to want to leave the puppy bowl, unless you were some sort of heartless monster.

Her mother would absolutely leave the puppy bowl, which gave Astrid very conflicting feelings about potentially leaving, too.

"Whoa! Hey! Astrid?" Prompto sort of had to do a double-take. "You're back?"

Prompto. Dude. It had been, like, literally a month.

In Prompto's defense, it wasn't like Astrid had exactly been a social butterfly since she got back, either.

"...yeah," she said, almost reluctantly, as if she wanted, for a moment, to just pretend she hadn't heard him or that she wasn't really back and was only a figment of his imagination, but then she frowned a little, taking another dive into her memory. She did know him, he was the one with all the pictures...and the posters helped her out big time, too.

"It's...Prompto, right? You're the one with the camera, who takes all the pictures? Sorry...it's just...it's been a while."

Of course Nina was going to show up for this!

For one: it was held by her brother!

For another: puppies!

"Has it started yet????????????????????" Nina asked as she wandered into the common room. She'd gotten caught up in a book, so...

"Not yet!" Prompto was happy to ~~mod~~ report. "But you have missed some insanely cute pre-show stuff!"

He grinned at Nina, but then his expression went a little...suspicious. "But how are you feeling, Nina?" he asked.

Nina looked a bit suspicious herself about his whole suspiciousness.

"Why????????????"

Well, great. Now Prompto was suspicious about Nina looking suspicious about his own suspiciousness!

"Uhhhh," he said, "because you've kind of been, like, super sick all week and I'm generally concerned for your health and well being?"

Like, obviously, Nina, geez.

They were doomed, now, to a never-ending cycle of suspiciousness!

"Weird," she said gravely, as if his statement/question didn't fill her with a warm sort of glee. Then, in the same grave tone of voice, Nina continued with, "I may cough on you, but I am no longer dying."

As far as she knew?

With anyone else, Prompto might have made a little quip about how they were all dying, but with Nina...it would definitely hit way too close to home.

So, instead, he just protested. "How is that weird?" he asked. "It's not nearly as weird as threatening to cough on someone just for asking how you were feeling!"

She died so often, Prompto! Or he did!

Being an Argentum was, apparently, bad for longevity...

Nina tried really hard not to laugh at his protest, she did, but then the urge to cough showed up and... well, she was covering her mouth to cough, yes, but she was also giggling like mad.

"Is care really what drove you to avoid me???????????????" she asked as tragically as one could ask. While still giggling.

"Yeah," scoffed Prompto, who found it difficult to sound too serious or too sarcastic there with her giggling like that, and ended up just grinning back. "Care for myself."

He was the one with the crappy clone DNA, after all. For all they knew, he was just one bad cold (and no phoenix downs) away from game over.

"That's the last thing we need, both of us all ridden with the plague."

"Okay," Sabine said, "what's a Puppy Bowl?"

Educate her!

"Besides the best thing EVER??" asked Prompto, laughing and grinning from ear to ear as he bounced over from whatever party-hosting duty he was attending to go over to Sabine. "Seriously, come in, grab some food and find a seat and get ready to pretty much die of cute overload. Truuuust me on this one!"

"Just tell me there aren't actually puppies in bowls," she said.

Because that seemed adorable?

There was...a significant pause.

"And just when I thought Puppy Bowl couldn't possibly get better and was practically perfect," he said, "you had to go and give me that, Sabine. No. No, unfortunately, there are no puppies in bowls. Just a bunch of puppies playing football."

Was that a small eee sound escaping him? Maybe! It was subtle, at least, but, if you listened closely, you could practically hear him buzz.

"There are two teams, Team Ruff and Team Fluff, and, you know what? No matter who turns out victorious, we all win in the Puppy Bowl."

"...Do the puppies wear helmets?"

Tiny puppy helmets.

"Ohmygods."

Prompto needed a moment.

"They don't," he finally said, "but they should, and I think you need to be in charge of Puppy Bowl XVII. I will seriously get Animal Planet on the phone right now, and, ohmygods, do you think Boat Guy would maybe let us take a break from birds to make puppy helmets for Fandom Puppy Bowl II???"

He was so going to ask now, because that would be amazing.

"They do wear little bandannas, though, for their different teams. And that's still pretty great."

"It's worth asking. Puppies probably won't try to peck us to death," Sabine reasoned. "I mean, bandanas are fine. I'll have to see them, I think."

Such! A! Chore!

"Yeah, I would take puppies over murder chocobos any day of the week!" Prompto decided. "I kind of liked those little kookaburra dudes, though...And don't worry. The bandannas are totally cute, you'll see. And, hey, I mean, look at it this way. If they had helmets the whole time, then we wouldn't be able to see all their cute puppy faces!"

"And they'd probably just try to take them off." Which would also be adorable. "If they can do that?"

Prompto just sort of looked at Sabine with an expression that could only be defined as awe.

"This seriously only keeps getting better and better," he said. "We're definitely doing helmets for Fandom Puppy Bowl II, whether it's through class or not. You'll help, right? We'll need some for doggos of all shapes and sizes."

"Sure. Someone's got to make sure they look good," Sabine pointed out.

"...wait," said Prompto, after a moment, with no small amount of pouting directed her way, "are you suggesting that they wouldn't look good if it was just me making them?"

He'd taken classes, Sabine! He could make good helmets!

He would agree that they wouldn't be as good as Sabine's, but still!

"Helmets are difficult," said Sabine, who knew this.

"Yeah, but..." Prompto started to protest, realized who he was protesting against, and wasn't feeling so sure that he had much of a leg to stand on. "...I mean, I like to think I'd still do an okay job. You said yourself, they're probably not even going to want to wear them for long."

"Well, yeah. I'm still going to need reference pictures to draw them later, though."

Of course.

"Now the pictures," said Prompto, his grin restored as he did a little flip of his hand, the sort of move someone might do when trying to do a trick with a gun right out of a holster, but it wasn't a gun, it was his camera, which made an appearance and then swiftly disappeared back into where he kept it on his belt, "I can definitely cover! There's going to be so many pictures, I'll hardly know what to do with them! They're very photogenic, too, those pups at the shelter. I got some on there right now if you want to see!"

Because 'too many puppies' was never a thing.

Sabine nodded and said, "Hit me."

She wasn't going to turn down puppy pictures.

Prompto grinned from ear to ear and whipped that camera right back out, twirling it in his hands a little until it was settled so that he could flip through some of the digital captures from his memory card.

"I've been making them hats every week," he explained, as she would notice a trend that lined up with their own hat creations in haberdashery. "Except last week. They do better with smaller hats, and I was still so not over the murder chocobos yet.

"Like, ohmygods, look at this one! He's such a good boy! But I also really like this one, he wanted to be faaancy. This one, too. They're all such fancy boys, when they want to be."

"Prompto," Sabine said, grinning, "this is art."

LOOK AT THEM.

He was looking at them! He looked at them a lot! And he'd looked at them when he took them!

And he may have been blushing, juuuuust a bit.

"Well," he gave a small, modest little huff, "a photographer's only as good as his models, and I say I've got some of the best!"

There was a pause. Then a broad grin.

"They are pretty great, though, aren't they?"

Grog had... mostly followed Prompto's explanation of what they were going to be watching. Honestly, he'd had Grog's attention at the mention of food, but watching cute little animals and being supportive were good reasons to be here too. Grog took a seat on the floor since he didn't trust the couches to hold him, so hopefully he wasn't blocking anyone's view.

See, now what Prompto would really like to see was to get Grog and Sidon on a couch together, and then if that couch still stood? Strongest. Couch. EVER.

"Yeah, Grog!" Prompto greeted him with a beaming grin. "Welcome to your first Puppy Bowl!"

"Thank you! It'll be good to see the little guys running around. Are you going to watch the other... whatever that's today too?" He'd only seen a little football but the violence alone made it fun to watch.

"Ehhhhh, I don't know," Prompto admitted, making a little bit of a face. "I'm...not really a sports guy. This is different, because, you know, it's cute puppies and all, but I'd definitely much rather watch doggos running all over the place and crashing into each other than big dudes in shoulder pads. No offense, of course," he grinned faintly as he bobbed his head, gesturing acquiescence toward Grog, "to big dudes in general."

Except maybe Gladio. But Grog could probably make even Gladio look scrawny.

Er, well, probably not by much, though. Stupid Gladio. Ugh.

"We'll probably put it on after this, though. Wayne seems into it? And I guess the commercials are supposed to be a big draw for a lot of people? Maybe you've just gotta be from Earth to really get it."

Puppies, meanwhile, clearly had undeniably multiversinal appeal.

"Yeah, you don't have to know much to watch puppies. The games have too many rules to follow," Grog said. "Do you think any of the animals at the shelter would want to be in a puppy bowl? You could probably make money for making people watch them!"

"I'm totally one step ahead of you, bro," Prompto had started grinning from the moment 'shelter' left Grog's mouth, and it only got bigger from there. "I did one with them last year, the first annual Fandom Puppy Bowl! So I'm definitely making plans for FPB II. I was thinking about doing it this week, but I might wait and see if my bird hat making class can take maybe a departure and do puppy football helmets, just to mix it up a little, before I make the date official."

Potential puppy helmets was totally worth the delay!

It's a party, and it's Prompto, so you know that table is just full of all sorts of junk and snack food that he will desperately hope people will eat so that he doesn't eat it instead! Pizzas upon pizzas, of course, but also a wide variety of chips, dips, salsas, sodas, pops, juices, some wings and little weenies on sticks, and, hey, look! There's even a veggie tray and some hummus so you can pretend to at least be a little healthy! And even moddable stuff, too!

Of course it would be almost entirely finger food. Tisarwat wasn't surprised, really, but it would always be just a little disappointing that the selections at these things were always so hand-oriented.

At least the little sausages were on small sticks, making them actually considerably more civilized to consume in a setting like this. Plus, Tisarwat had it on good authority that they were likely the snacks that Amaya would have appreciated the most.

Which meant now she was considering how she might best work meat on sticks into her poem, somehow...

It seemed 'specially fittin' fer Wayne to be crackin' open a Puppers or two to celebrate a game fer puppers specificalleh. But of course he'd brought a couple of cases to share if anyone else wanted one, because what kinda degen brought Puppers and didn't bring enough to share?

And then it's time for the main event, Puppy Bowl XVI! Are you Team Ruff or Team Fluff? Who do you think will be the stand out stars? How will you prevent Prompto from wanting to go and literally adopt every single one of those doggos right here and now?

And, most importantly, how much better is this than the regular old game that plays on this particular Sunday???

I'm sorry, but Prompto + Puppy Bowl Forever.

Also, my schedule is dumb, and I'm not entirely sure I'll survive a pre-Bowl shift, so if this is the last post I ever make...I'm glad it was Puppy Bowl.
