Second floor common room- Saturday morning

Alexis had no idea why she had a peacock. And there'd maybe been a little shrieking at having a bird in her room when she woke up, but it'd been short, because as it turned out Preston was pretty cool, and chill.

Which was why they were hanging out in the common room watching whatever was on E! and snarking.

Totally normal scene here, folks.

At some point, there was a capuchin monkey carrying a small foam football runnning into the room, grinning broadly at everyone as he scampered past to crouch behind the couch, putting a finger to his mouth to mime for silence and secrecy, and then ducked a little further behind it once Troy came scampering down the hall after him and poked his head into the common room.

"Has anyone here seen Annie's Boobs?"

Sorry, Starlight! Troy had absolutely no idea why his new monkey best friend was apparently named that, all he knew was that it was awesome.

"Um," Arabella said. "Who's Annie?"

Her best case scenario here was that her roommate had been bitten by one of those gremlin things, tbh.

"No, not Annie," said Troy, shaking his head. "Annie's Boobs. He's a monkey, he's about yay high," complete with a gesture, "with a red collar, last seen carrying a football and he's super cool and he talks, but still not the talking animal kind that give you magical pow--"

And that was when the small foam football came flying out from behind the couch, and of course Troy caught it and laughed. "There he is!" he declared as the capuchin came scrambling up the couch, along the back of it, and then finally up on Troy's shoulder, where he grinned at Arabella for a moment before telling Troy, "Nice catch."

To which Troy responded, "Good throw."

And then both monkey and boy clapped paws and hands together and against their chest in two steady, perfect beats in the world's best best friend handshake, and looked entirely too proud of themselves after doing it.

"Why, are they new?" Alexis asked.

"He," Troy corrected, "and yeah, he is, he's my new monkey best friend and he just showed up this morning."

But now that that was out of the way and he knew who he was talking to, his chin quirked up and the monkey was maybe forgotten about for the moment.

"S'up, Alexis?"

Arabella was being followed around by a large sheep this morning.

This was fine. This wasn't even unprecedented. Since Cornelius had started working for Baylor Investigations there was usually at least one companion animal around the place at all times, which sometimes meant a raccoon and sometimes meant a giant blue tiger-hound from the arcane realm.

That the sheep talked...well. That was new. Even Sergeant Teddy didn't talk, and he was magically intelligent. Coffee was clearly indicated, except Arabella hadn't been able to find the coffee on her floor. That didn't mean it wasn't there. It just meant she was hopeless before coffee.

"Do y'all have coffee on this floor?" she asked Alexis. "Please say yes."

"Oh, always," Alexis told her, pointing back to the kitchen area while Preston watched judgily. "That's some sheep."

Was it a sheep? Or did it have another name? She was unclear.

"His name is Oscar, apparently," Arabella said. "Do you...want coffee?" she asked Oscar, who just looked at her disapprovingly. "What? I don't know if sheep drink coffee! Do sheep drink coffee?" she asked Alexis.

Tahani poked her head into the common room. "I don't suppose any of you know how to placate a giraffe?"

Alexis paused.

It was a long pause.

"I'm sorry, what."

"Azzaa, apparently, cannot fit into the dormitory and is extremely displeased about it," Tahani said.

"Giraffe?" Arabella repeated. Giraffe!

"Giraffe," Tahani sighed. "An extremely demanding giraffe."

"Ohhhhhh," said Troy and the monkey on his shoulder at the exact same time, "you got a giraffe?"

"I got a giraffe," Tahani said, sounding extremely put out. "A two-and-a-half meter tall giraffe."

Lana came in followed by a tuk'ata about as long as she was tall, even if a lot of it was tail. She looked around at the other people and animals.

"Definitely a Fandom thing, then. Pity." She rather liked Gemis.

He pressed his head against her hand. "Go get your tea before you fret."

She smiled down at him and headed for the pot. "Anybody else for tea?"

"Okay what is that?" Alexis asked, because first things first!

"This is Gemis." Lana smiled down at him. "He's a tuk'ata. A Sith hound."

"I'm very prestigious," he added in a gravelly, slightly smug voice.

"You're very self-satisfied," Lana said with a laugh and a rub of his head between the spines.

She got the water started and looked through the teas.

Arabella had been working on memorizing the catalog of Summons from the arcane realm, and she was pretty sure she had never seen anything like that before. And it talked. Sure, apparently animals talked now, but...it talked.

"Is that real?" Obviously it was real, Arabella. "I mean, is that a Summon, or...what?"

Lana frowned. "What's a Summon?"

"Okay, now," said Troy, "that is definitely a dinosaur."

He still wasn't sure about Alexis', and now that he said it, he wasn't sure about this one now, either, and looked over to Annie's Boobs for confirmation.

"Right?"

The monkey just shrugged. Looked like a dinosaur enough for him!

Wei Wuxian came into the common room with a white rabbit cradled in one arm. His flute was shoved to the back of his waist to keep it out of the way. He placed the bunny on the counter and rummaged through the kitchen cabinet. "I know I saw some carrots - ah!" He pulled out a bag of dried, paprika-spiced carrots and dangled it in front of the rabbit.

Wei Tudou gave the bag a dubious look. "I'm not eating any food that's going to catch my mouth on fire," she said.

"Oh come on, you won't even try?" Wei Wuxian tore open the bag and held out a carrot chip to the rabbit.

"Wei Wuxi-an!" Troy whooped out his name when he saw him, flashing him a grin that matched the grin of the capuchin monkey on his shoulder that hooted with it, too. "Nice rabbit!"

"Cute bunny," Alexis said, looking over.
