Second floor common room- Saturday morning

Alexis had no idea why she had a peacock. And there'd maybe been a little shrieking at having a bird in her room when she woke up, but it'd been short, because as it turned out Preston was pretty cool, and chill.

Which was why they were hanging out in the common room watching whatever was on E! and snarking.

Totally normal scene here, folks.

Arabella looked at Oscar, like maybe he would know what another magic talking animal was on about, but he just shook his massive head and knocked a stack of napkins off the kitchen counter with one of his horns. "Oops."

Arabella went to pick them up, since Oscar didn't have thumbs and all. "Maybe it's like...two slices of bread with another slice of bread between them?"

"Does it have to be different kinds of bread?" Tahani wondered.

"I have no idea," Arabella admitted. "Do you want me to ask the giraffe for you?" She'd do it, too.

"Azzaa," Tahani said, "and yes, please. She has her head through my bedroom window and is probably extremely displeased."

"Is your room on this side of the building?" Arabella asked, already marching over to the window.

She really wanted to know what a bread sandwich was, anyway.

"Right over there," Tahani said, pointing to the giraffe with her head through a window, looking distinctly annoyed. "Azzaa!" she called.

"You are taking forever," Azzaa told her.

"Hey," Arabella called, leaning her whole upper body out the window. Oscar bit the hem of her t-shirt to keep her from falling out, even though she totally wasn't going to fall. "You. Talking giraffe. I have a question! What's a bread sandwich?"

"It is obviously a sandwich made of bread," Azzaa informed them in a posh British accent. "I like mine with pumpernickel and wheat."

Okay, now they were getting somewhere. "Cool. Makes perfect sense. Is there anything on the sandwich besides bread?"

"Well," Azzaa said, sighing heavily, "it depends. Let me give you the recipe for an easy one. This is the Sandwich Which Has No Name: I need two slices of rye bread, one slice of white bread, three slices of pumpernickel--served on the side--three small garden weeds to be stapled together and thrown either East or Northeast, and one slice of sourdough, thin but not too thin."

"What," Tahani said.

"...what?" Arabella said, because seriously. What?

She hung out the window for another moment, then pushed herself back inside--well, mostly Oscar hauled her--and told Tahani, "Okay, I say we slap a piece of pumpernickel between two slices of wheat and call it a day." Because no way she was remembering all of that. "If we even have pumpernickel." She thought the odds were against it. This was a high school dorm, after all.

"Did you catch what the staple was for?" Oscar asked. "I don't think staples go in sandwiches."

"I don't think that many carbs go in sandwiches," Arabella countered.

Tahani was trying to recover her equilibrium.

"It's not that unreasonable," she said.

It really was.

"I think the staples were to hold the weeds together as we throw them?"
