Second Floor Common Room; Sunday Morning [06/12].

Libby's grandmother had been sending her a small weekly allowance, knowing that a little spending money could make living away from home a little easier, and she was mostly saving up that money for an emergency (or, if she was honest with herself, to maybe buy a new dress for the next school dance) or using it to buy stuff to make breakfasts and other meals in the common room. That morning, though, seeing as the nice little windfall was growing, she was a little tempted to head into town, into the pastry shop, and maybe treat herself to something that she might otherwise never splurge on.

But even as soon as she thought about it, she felt guilty about it. It was kind of selfish, wasn't it? Especially on a Sunday. Not to mention just sort of careless, not a very useful use of her funds at all.

There was, thankfully, a good solution to handling her sudden sweet tooth and her worry about being waste and self-serving, and that was obviously to just head to the store to pick up what she needed and make something, which would not only be more cost effective, but that she could share with everyone else, too.

And she had no doubt that the smell of cinnamon rolls baking in the common room would get at least a few people's attention.

She just hoped she didn't end up burning them, and had to remind herself to let them cool first before adding the icing.

Vi's attention was well and truly gotten. "Hey, Libs. Making something?"

"Cinnamon rolls," Libby confirmed with a nod, and, since her hands were busy with the rolling part of the next batch at that particular moment, there was another nod, this time toward the first batch already sitting on the counter. If there was one thing that this place had plenty of, it was hungry stomachs, so she knew just one match wouldn't go very far at all. "Those ones should be cool enough by now, if you wanted to help yourself."

"Thanks," Vi said, taking one and tearing chunks off with her fingers. "It's good. You want a hand with the rest?"

After she'd finished eating this one. She did actually have something resembling table manners.

Consider his attention fully grabbed there Libby. It didn't take long after the smells had reached his nose for Kurt to port down to the common room.

"Oh Libby! Should have know it would be you" Kurt said with as he looked at her with a broad grin. "That smells amazing!"

Libby shook her head a little, managing to get the dough nicely rolled and just hoped it stayed that way while she cut it up into individual rolls. "Not much left to help with," she admitted, "except maybe the dishes, but those can wait."

And, besides, Libby still liked doing the dishes, and doing them by herself, a holdover from back home when it was one of the few chores she could do that she could take on by herself and have a little peace and quiet from the household.

"Once this batch is out of the oven, though, you can have icing duty."

She was pretty good at delegating tasks, after all, and she knew some people just liked to have something to do and to contribute.

"I finally managed to beat someone to the punch!" Libby reported proudly, meeting Kurt's grin with one of her own. "Or I guess the oven in this case. There's a few people it could have been!"

It still kind of made her marvel, a little, how many of her peers actually did seem to enjoy cooking, especially since a good deal of them were boys. And she did like making sort of a game of it, being the first one to get to the kitchen and get to work.

"But the ones on the counter are ready to go if you want to help yourself," she told him, with a nod toward the ones waiting all finished and iced, "and the next batch shouldn't be too much longer."

"That I can do," Vi said, licking a stray bit of said substance off her thumb. She was a lot better at baking than when she'd first washed up here, but that wasn't necessarily saying much. "There's a lot of it in cupcake class."

"I would think so!" Libby remarked with a small laugh. "A whole class about cupcakes and the cupcakes without icing just sounds kind of said. They should have called it a muffin class, in that case. A whole class on cupcakes does sound kind of fun, though. Maybe I should have taken that one..."

Kurt nodded enthusiastically and walked over, grabbed a plate off the counter with his tail and plopped one if the perfectly warm cinnamon rolls on it.

"I can give you a hand with the dishes if you want" he said before taking a bite. " Oh this is amazing!" he said, giving her a quick thumbs up.

"Thank you," Libby's smile now had a touch of pride to it; it seemed as though it wanted be a little more sheepish and humble about it, but they really did turn out pretty well. "I was worried they might have gotten a little burnt...and you don't need to help with the dishes, but I wouldn't say no to someone taking up drying duty."

As long as she got to do the actual washing of the dishes herself. She'd probably fork it over if anyone insisted, but washing dishes always had been her favorite chore back home.

"I can help with that!" Kurt said with a nod. "Doing dishes was always a family thing back home. When I was younger I wanted to help put things away but was too little to reach any of the cabinets so I was usually on washing duty with Mutti and Vati would put them away."

It might have also had something to do with the phase where he was just realizing he could teleport but had no idea how he was doing it or how to control it and ended up breaking more dishes that managed to get to the cabinets as he tried to port around the kitchen at eight years old.

"Everything's a family thing back home for me," Libby noted, a bit wryly, almost on the edge of an eyeroll, but she'd have felt bad if she'd done that, she didn't want to sound ungrateful. "But dishes was always my favorite. A lot less hustle and bustle, all you really have to do was stay in one place..."

Which left plenty of room for your mind to wander without having to worry about it tripping over anything underfoot.

"You'd probably enjoy it," Vi agreed, tactfully not mentioning the weird ingredients that kept showing up. "Though you did already sign up to the best class." Not that she was biased about any of them.

The smell of cinnamon rolls was too tempting to resist so Belle followed her nose to the source.

"It smells wonderful in here, Libby!"

"The adventure one?" Libby guessed, because, even without her own particular biases, that was easily her favorite, too, even if Aquatic Arts did come in a not-too-far-behind second.

Also, Vi seemed to always be in a pretty good mood during adventure class, too, so she felt that was a pretty solid guess.

"Hopefully," Libby laughed a little, her grin easily finding sheepish territory now with the compliments her little sweets endevour had produced, "the taste can live up to the smell! But thank you, Belle! They're cinnamon rolls, you can go ahead and help yourself, I'm making plenty."

Yes, Vi was. For some reason or the other.

Vi nodded. "It's pretty great, isn't it?"

"Hey." Vi waved with a hand full of cinnamon roll.

"I'm sure they taste wonderful as well," Belle assured her. If they smelled this good they almost had to taste good as well.

"Thank you for sharing," she added as she reached for a roll. "That's very kind of you."

"It really is," Libby agreed, emphatically, almost with a sort of marveling shake of her head. After all, she'd grown up being told that make-believe should be only for children, and that her attentions should be on the more practical and realistic, now that she was practically an adult, but she didn't think she'd ever be able to truly grow out of making up stories.

So the fact that got to do so in a class, and it was encouraged....

"I really can't wait to see where it all goes!"

"Good morning," Belle responded cheerfully after a bite of her own cinnamon roll.

It was, in fact, as good as it smelled.

"Seems a bit selfish not to," Libby pointed out. "Besides," the addition came with a laugh, "even on my hungriest days, there's no way I could eat all this myself, anyway! Someone would have to just roll me right out of here of I tried!"

"I might be tempted to try," Belle admitted. "Though I don't think I would be successful!"

"And as a nurse-in-training," said Libby, all of a sudden going very serious with a very professional nod of her head, "I feel obligated to give my official recommendation against it. Not only for the sake of your stomach, but in the spirit of it never being fun to be reminded that there can be too much of a good thing."

Belle gave her a very serious nod in return. The situation demanded it.

"I will do my best to resist the temptation. After that very sound recommendation how could I not?"
