Second Floor Common Room - Tuesday Afternoon

Even though Guillermo normally did all of his cooking on Fridays for the DnD sessions, he was feeling inspired to cook some fresh empanadas that afternoon and he was also wearing one of his spare capes that he had kept from Friday because he had taken to wearing his cape everywhere and it was it one of the best things ever.

He was even getting better about cooking with the cape and so far he had managed to not set anything on fire as he took out one batch of empanadas out of the oven and got another ready to go in so that there would be plenty to go round.

[common room is open!]

Graham didn't exactly float into the room as if lead there by his nose, but he may well have been, the way the aroma the empanadas cooking pulled him into the common room.

"Zoooooounds, Guillermo!" he declared eagerly, drawn all the way over to his side to get a visual confirmation and not at all surprised to see who was blame for this singular distraction. "That smells amaaaazing!"

Sort of like how Graham thought it would be polite to wait first before eating any, but it had not taken long before he eyes found those already-prepared empanadas and looked at them longingly and with his mouth watering. So once the invitation was out there, Graham all but pounced.

"I would like to start eating them!" he noted happily, and had half of one already in his mouth and somewhat chewed before adding a very muffled, "Thanks, Guillermo! These are great!"

"I am sooooo glad that Friday has helped everyone come around to the benefits of a cape," said Graham, after finally chewing and swallowing and, miraculously, before taking another bite. "Even if they don't have a million pockets that could fit virtually anything within reason, they're just so flattering and dynamic! Always love a good cape!"

"In the winter," Graham mused, words muffled again as he dedicatedly worked on making the other half of that empanada magically disappear into his stomach, "you can get a nice thicker one for more warmth, or one lined with nice fur, and then when spring and summer come back around, switch back to the lighter, more breezier capes. I mean, I'll always just stick to this one, because of the sentimental value," and the pockets, "but capes can also be very versatile!"

"I'm not sure where you could go shopping for one around here, either," Graham admitted. "I've actually never been cape shopping before; my mom made me this one! I could probably just make you one, too, Guillermo," he pointed out, with a little bit of a smile gone sheepish, "probably not as nice as this one," and certainly without magical pockets, unfortunately, "but I am pretty good at sewing and costuming! And you're always making me delicious empanadas and pies, I really should make you something sometime!"

"I would definitely make you a cape!" Graham confirmed, with a laugh, as he reached for another empanada and held it up demonstrably before taking a big bite. "It's only fair, right? And I made that cape for your mini-forge in shop class, right? It'll be just like that! Only bigger!"

"Don't even mention it!" Graham said dismissively, around both a grin and a mouthful of empanada. "It's the least I can do! I'm happy to help! It might not be as nice as something you might get at, say, some fancy cloak shop, but it'll definitely do the trick!"

It was sure a good thing that Graham had already finished that second empanada, because if he hadn't, he would have dropped it. Something still did drop, though, and that was Graham's jaw.

He stared for a moment, shook his head, blinked, and then stared a little more.

"Zounds!" he then breathed out, in awe. "Guillermo! Did you just turn into a bat? When did you learn that? Is that a new skill? Are you slowly turning into a vampire? Did you get bit by a bat? Is there a full moon?? Can you change back?!?"

So, so many questions!

But then he realized, somewhat disappointingly, "Or is this just a random thing? Like when Kurt was a sugar glider, or I was a goose, or Libby was a lamb, or Vi was a kitten...?"

"You've done this before," Graham teasingly accused with a swing of his finger and a grin, "haven't you? Look at that wing span! You're a natural! Do you need to perch, though?" All that flying looked exhausting! Graham held out an arm. "Wanna hang? Zounds, I wish I had paid more attention to picking up bat when I was studying my animal languages!"
pun_king: (hands out hold on)

Graham might understand him! Sure, sure, he was hardly fluent in bat...he honestly didn't know much of it at all...but that never stopped him before! You had to start somewhere. And, in fact, that start was usually just with a natural comprehension in general....

...which may have paid off just then, as Graham looked back at Guillermo perched on his arm, tilted his head a little curiously at what might be going on in his newly bat-brain, blinked, and then seemed to realize.

"Oh! Your empanadas!

With his amr-perch still held out and trying to keep it steady for Guillermo, Graham rushed over to the open to pull it open and take a peek inside, letting out an immediate breath of relief. "Phew!" he said, closing the oven again and grinning over at Guillermo. "Looks like they're not burning, at least! Not yet, anyway. Was it a while ago that you put them in? How long do they usually take? Did you maybe set a timer?"
pun_king: (sincere smile)

Well, Graham was certainly nodding along as if it did. Whether or not he actually understood? That could go either way.

"Got it," he said. "Did you get to eat any yet? You've probably too busy with the cooking to even enjoy them!"
pun_king: (imploring hand lean forward)

That was generally Graham's approach to feeding most animals, really. It didn't help that Triumph practically had an iron stomach.

And it didn't take a fluency in bat to pick up on the sadness, though, and Graham grinned, snagging one up and holding it up to Guillermo on his arm.

"Here you go, buddy," he said. "They're too good to let something like being a bat keep you from enjoying the fruits of your labor!"
pun_king: (hey! that's pretty great!)

[personal profile] pun_king 2022-11-02 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
"And when you're done with that," Graham offered, "we can clean up! I could probably try to finish up making me, but they won't be nearly as good. But for now, you enjoy that empanada, bat friend Guillermo, you've earned it!"
