Second Floor Common Room - Tuesday Afternoon

Guillermo decided to start cooking for the DnD session this week and had started with making a fresh batch of empanadas and while that was cooking, he got to work on an Apple pie to get started on the pies that he would bring over on Friday.

He had been completely oblivious to the mistletoe and so far had not noticed that there was in fact mistletoe hanging on the ceiling.

(so very open!)

Maybe it was all the gingerbread he got to enjoy yesterday, but Graham started his day in a great mood, feeling eager and excited about the day ahead. It made him feel particularly optimistic about the sort of training session he'd have with Triumph, and as he left his room, there was a swing in his step and a whistled tune on his lips as he started to head down the hallway to head downstairs.

He hadn't taken more than a few steps, however, before he noticed little vines of plants slithering like snakes along the hallway. "Well, hello, there!" he greeted them. "You're quite new, aren't you? Are you friendly vines, or is this something we need to be worried about, hmmm?"

As he leaned in for closer inspection, little clusters of the plant (mistletoe, he thought it was; no, definitely mistletoe, he recognized it because it was used as a spell component in a lot of magic!) seemed to float right up and give his shoulder a gentle nudge. Since it was gentle, he had to chuckle a little. "It's nice to meet you, too!" he said, and then another one nudged his shoulder again, but the third one seemed a little unnecessarily rough about it.

"Hey, now, calm down," he told it, still chuckling but starting to get a little worried, as he lifted a hand as if to settle the clusters of mistletoe. "I'm going, I'm going, don't worry, I was headed this way, anywa--"

He stumbled forward a little, his hat going skew, as the pushing got really insistent. "There's no need to be rude about it!" he huffed, pulling on his hat a little to put it back in place. "I was going this way anyway."

He probably would have detoured toward the smells coming from the common room anyway, too, but it seemed he didn't have much of a choice as the mistletoe was very clearly ushering him that way as well, some of them seeming to somehow get a hold of his cape and start pulling him, and he tried to brush them away.

"You stop that!" he told them. "No need to be pushy! You're all being a bit ruu--"

"Oh, hey, Guillermo!" Distracted as he was from trying to fend off these insistent plants, he still managed to smile brightly when he found the source of those delicious smells and waved his hand. "Are you working on another batch of amazing empanadas?"

"I'd love to have some!" Graham assured him, chuckling a little, because he figured Guillermo already knew that, and he was trying to be more amused than annoyed at the mistletoe right now, but it was...testing him. Several more seemed to have taken a hold of the hem of his cloak and was pulling him forward into the room even more, despite the fact that he had every intention of going over to Guillermo. Maybe they were just being aggressively helpful? But he started to wonder if they were just actually being aggressive when they kept going even after he'd gotten to the kitchenette and beside Guillermo and just shoved him straight into Guillermo.

"S-sorry!" he said quickly, and tried to laugh it off. "I don't know what's gotten into these plants, but they've been kind of pushy," literally, as they gave Graham another shove into Guillermo again, "ever since I left my room!"

"Me, neither!" Graham admitted, and he tried his best to back up and give Guillermo some space, but the mistletoe was not having any of it. "They're pretty strong for such little sprigs, too! We should probably get to the root of this problem soon!"

Once maybe they stopped being, you know, so rude and shovey and gave them some time to breathe!

Graham was honestly mystified by the whole thing; he didn't know the connotations of this particular plant during this particular season in this particular world at all. He mostly just knew it as having very powerful magical properties, so while he wasn't surprised that it might act all up as if enchanted, he simply could not fathom why it might be acting up in this particular way.

It was especially hard for him to try and think of an explanation when realizing just how close he and Guillermo were at the moment, which meant he was noticing how nice and soft Guillermo was, and how that meant that Guillermo would probably be great to snuggle up with, and oh no. Either that oven was very hot, or Graham's face was threatening to burn off with how much red was in it.

"Um," he managed to get out, eloquently. "May...maybe they want some empanadas?"

Because that made sense, right?

"They should really be more patient, though," he added, especially as it tried to push him even closer, and an errant sprig went flying toward his head.

"Ow! Hey! That hurt!"

"It's those sharp leaves that they have," said Graham, confident and knowledgable with a nod as he tried to swat away another sprig flying at him, and then was thoroughly distracted, for a moment, somewhat thankfully, by a few of them trying to take off with his cap. He reached up to pull it down firmly, holding it in place irritably as he started to feel pretty sure they couldn't push him any closer to Guillermo without them just merging together.

"I think," he realized, "they want us really close, for some reason."

Practically on top of each other, really!

A thought that was not helping!

"I don't know," Graham admitted, frowning a little, because he certainly would like to know, especially since he was pretty sure he couldn't get any closer to Guillermo, but the mistletoe was still seemingly trying; a clump of it had lifted his arm until his hand was on Guillermo's shoulder. "I wish I could speak with plants as well as I do animals, then I could just ask it..."

"Oh." Graham blinked a little now that Guillermo's arm was around his waist, unable to help taking notice of how doing so did bring him somehow closer, and the proximity made his face fill with red. And there was mistletoe at the back of his head now, too, trying to push his face closer, as well.

"Do...do you think it wants us to..."

Something, right? There were definitely angling for something...

"...dance?" he guessed.

But there wasn't even any music!

With them being so incredibly close and his own incredible curiosity over what the mistletoe could possibly want out of them, as Graham started to feel it trying to nudge and pull his head a certain way, a little tilt here, as if trying to find a good position, he was practically glued to every word (every stammer, really) out of Guillermo's mouth just then. And a good thing, too, otherwise that babble of words all smushed together might have been complete nonsense.

But since Graham was paying attention, he was able to pick it out perfectly, and his eyes widened, brows lifting, blush burning even brighter on his face as he was sure he probably heard that wrong.

"Kiss?" he asked. "Us?"

His mouth suddenly very dry, Graham tried to swallow down the hard lump that had formed in his throat. Absentmindly, he licked his bottom lip.

"...really?"

And that came out with a surprising little hitch in his breath, feeling like his heart in his chest was doing somersaults as he stared at Guillermo, almost too nervous to look away.

And now Graham was really taking notice of exactly how they'd wound up and he blinked a few times as he realized, "Zounds, I think you might be ri--"

And then, as if to confirm it, once and for all, Graham felt a firm frond push at the back of his head, which brought his face forward enough to close that very miniscule gap between his lips and Guillermo's, since they clearly needed all the help they could get at that point.
pun_king: (hey! that's pretty great!)

And would you look at that, they'd been coaxed into a position where Graham's hand, which had been nervously balled up at Guillermo's shoulder, could relax and move across his back a little. Not that Graham had any idea what he was doing right now; this was his first kiss, as well, but now that the threshold had been crossed, he figured he'd just close his eyes and lean into it and just see where it took them.

Right now, the place it seemed to be taking him was a sort of awe-struck wow moment, while the sound of his pounding heart seemed to just reverberate through his ears.

His first kiss! Not exactly like in all the fairy tales and stories, sure, but he'll take it!

Guillermo's arm tightening around him startled Graham a little, pulling his slightly out of the moment. At least enough to notice that his hat seemed to be slipping, so his hand lifted from Guillermo's shoulder to catch it, and, in doing so, seemed to pull enough out of the kiss that he was left sort of blinking at Guillermo with stunned surprise that it was over...or that it had even happened at all.

He started to feel the mistletoe that had been wrapped around him loosen and slither away.

"I gue--" Graham tried to speak, but it didn't really come out as anything more than sort of a squeak, and so he cleared his throat and tried again, though he'd definitely dropped his voice brusquely into an octave lower than his natural voice, to sound more impressive. "I guess that really was what they wanted, after all."

And while the mistletoe may have been retreating, Graham didn't really seem in any particular hurry to move away.

"That...was..." The blush across Graham's face seemed to have regulated a little, settling in mostly on his ears and cheekbones, "...nice." He smiled a little awkwardly, uncertain if that was a good word to use for it, but it certainly felt right, and then he sort of chuckled, some of the awkwardness carrying over into the nervous sort of laugh. "I think maybe that mistletoe might have really been onto somethi--"

But Graham cut himself off, taking a moment to blink as he caught a whiff of something in the air, and hs frowned. "Do you smell that?" he asked. "It's almost like something..." Graham's eyes widened, as he remembered what it was Guillermo was doing before they both got so...erm...distracted.

"Burning! Guillermo! Your shamelessly modded mwa ha ha empanadas!"
