In the Common Room, seated in plain sight, anyone who wanders by can see the following with a note attached:

Mr. Fluffypants is seated in front of a pile of objects which may look familiar to some people*:
--some flannel shirts
--mediocre grunge CDs
--a book of possibly bad poetry (Mr. Fluffypants reserves judgement)
--several novels, including "The Grapes of Wrath," "Anna Karenina," "Frankenstein," and a Harelequin, "The Pirate Who Seduced Me"; all of which bear the inscription, "Property Of Rory Gilmore"
--some coffee mugs
--a bit of poetry with the name "Paige Matthews" clearly on it in at least one place
--spare vambraces and knee-guards
--Art TA notes (with doodles of swords and various weapons in the margins)
--some studded leather hairties
--a pack of cigarettes
--a half-empty bottle of floral scented hair gel
--a copy of Catholic Weekly, which doesn't look very Catholic at all
--a sophisticated looking communication device
--a pair of combat boots
--Advanced Negotiations notes (with doodles of "AS + PA = <3" covering more of the paper than the actual notes)
--a banthabell
--a set of love letters
--ballet shoes which are a size 7 and rather worn ("K.P." written in Sharpie on the inside of each heel)
--a silver Tiffany alarm clock that won't stop buzzing
--a picture of Mary Steenburgern
--New Kids on the Block sheets
--a textbook packed with important looking notes
--an antique cross necklace

For those who care to look hard enough (it's not that hard), Hamlet and Duo are hiding behind a nearby couch, snickering. Well, Duo is snickering and Hamlet is trying to not snicker--or, at least snicker in an emo way in a way befitting that of someone who does not snicker.

Rory enters the common room after dropping her stuff in her room, and immediately notices the bunny.

Good taste in books, she thinks. Hey...those look like - those ARE mine! And...oh, my God, it has my pirate book. Shit!

She scurries over, and starts to pile up the books, grabbing the coffee mugs she recognizes as being her own as well.

Mr. Canute Mimir Fluffypants narrows his yellow laser eyes and stands protectively in front of his stolen goods. He was just about to get around to scanning the Pirate book, too.

"Can I have my books back, please? I'm really, seriously not in the mood to deal with a kleptomaniac rabbit."

Hey, Rory! *shoves the Abarat into her bag and brandishes her mallet at the pink thing again* I thought you weren't comin' back 'til tomorrow!

"Hey Zero," Rory says, not looking up from glaring at the weird little rabbit. "I wasn't, but my grandparents were kind of getting to me, so I pretended to get a call from an unnamed teacher saying I needed to come back due to an unspecified academic emergency. They totally bought it. I feel sort of bad, though, because they gave my a really nice birthday present."

Rory looks up from where she's now kneeling next to Mr. Canute Mimir Fluffypants. "A car. Which, normally, would make me want to stick around all weekend, just out of gratitude. But they were arguing, and my grandmother kept bringing up my love life, and ignoring me when I said I didn't want to talk about it...and it all just kind of made me realize why my mom knows all the escape routes out of there."

Mr. Canute Mimir Fluffypants appreciates the new person's politeness. He may be programmed as a greedy little kleptomaniac bunny, but his creators D-prime and H-prime are handsome, charming, nice fellows who instilled some of their better qualities in him. He also accepts bribes. Pie and lady-bunnies are at the top of the list.

Rory tilts her head at the bunny, and then notices Hamlet and...some other guy...giggling like madmen over in the corner.

She kneels in front of the bunny. "Okay," Rory says in a soothing, deceptively sweet voice, "you seem like a very nice bunny, so I'll give you a present if you let me keep my things. How would you feel about some cookies?"

Well, now, I was sure enough watchin' it do its thing, but I was just seein' what it could do! I build it myself because it bein' a damn stuffed animal starin' at me with those freaky eyes wasn't workin' for me...*grins sheepishly*

"Innocent?" Rory says quietly, eyeing Zero and her mallet with a smile. "You call breaking and entering and staling our things innocent?"

"Ha, got your attention there, did I?" Rory snaps, striding over to the couch. "Why do you have my books? And what's with the bunny? And Hamlet - petty theft? Really? And who are you?" she adds to Duo.

We created a mechanized version of the rabbit I attained at the Homecoming Carnival. However, there seems to have been a flaw in its programming which gave it both sentience and magpie-like qualities. We were conducting experimentation to see how it would react to unknown interaction attempts, given the newness of its idea of self. So far, it has failed miserably in performing its preprogrammed steward duties.
