Room 412: Overdue Library Book

Janet waited outside Belthazor's room for Zero to join her.

He'd had a book out since October 3rd. Seventy-nine days. It was past time to get that book back.

And since the book was from Special Collections? The fine was going to be pretty damn expensive.

Janet smiled. Being a library assistant could be such a fun job sometimes.

"The book." Janet held her hand out. "Now. The fine is going up every minute you hold onto it."

"You didn't tell me any due date when you handed me the book," Bel said, trying very hard to keep a hold of his temper. "Nor was I notified about any fine. I think we need to see the principal before I'm paying anything to you, because I don't think you're being very fair at all."

Two weeks from the day the book is checked out. I thought that was obvious. Surely you didn' believe you had the right to keep it for two and a half months.

Also, I believe Principal Bristow has already left, and Principal Smith isn' here yet. *eyebrow*

"Hey, nobody told me anything about any due date," Bel said. "Special collections being, you know, special, I thought I could keep it as long as I needed for the project. I'm more than happy to return it, but while having four cute girls -- well, three, since it's Parker and all -- trying to get into my room while I'm wearing nothing but a towel? Fun, but I don't take kindly to threats."

"Mwah, mwah, muaha mauah mwah mwah," Parker said, imitating Charlie Brown's teacher. "The rules are plainly posted. You agreed to them when you got the card. And among them? Responsibility for returning the book on time. And woo, threats," she added, spinning a finger in the air.

"You standing in anyone's doorway is a threat, sweetheart," Bel said with a predatory smile.

[OOC: Must get offline for a bit...back in an hour or so. Wah!]

"Oh, I'm leaving the enforcement strictly to Zero and Janet. I'm just here to record the happy event." Parker took another picture, grinning.

OOC: S'okay, I have to get to sleep soon anyway. I've got a cold, or bronchitis, or something really icky. :( And sleep? Therefore a priority. Can always finish up tomorrow.

"And again we're back to 'possessed by an evil thingie,' said Janet. "Not to mention that it's your responsibility to return the book on time. Especially after the rules were changed to disallow anyone removing a book from Special Collections. Stop stonewalling and give us back the damn book."

And considering that the new rules regarding Special Collections have been clearly posted. And you've been in the library all the squallin' time glarin' kiss-kill at Blank. You knew. Now, like she said. Give us the book.

"Fine," Bel said, sighing. "Let me get dressed and I'll find you the book. If you're so afraid I'm going to sneak off, one of you who isn't Parker can come in with me. How about you, Zero?"

Alone? In there? With you? I think that might be the worst idea I've heard all week.

"Fine, then get your mallet out of my door and let me close it and get dressed. Otherwise I may have to report you for harrassment for not letting me put some clothes on. I'll be out momentarily."

Hmm. Janet, what d'you think? Should we trust him?

"The guy that used to be best pals with Angelus?" asked Janet. "No. Besides, harassment? He's the one who chose to answer the door wearing nothing but a towel, and we have neither reacted nor brought the subject up in any way until he brought it up first. I'm not worried about being reported for harassment."

Also? The fact that he suggested a tiny helpless girl go in there alone with him while he gets some grindin' pants? Not reassurin'.

*Grins at Bel. Well. It might be a grin. He can see all her teeth, at least.* Tell you what, how's about we all just wander on in there?

"Parker isn't taking one step into this room," Bel said. "It's like inviting a vampire. You can never get the stench out. If you want two, fine. But I'm not inviting the whole crew of you in to watch me get dressed, much as you apparently want to. Particularly since Parker has that little camera of hers, when I haven't given her permission to photograph me at all, so if she tries to do anything with them....

And for the record, I didn't expect the Inquisition on my doorstep when I answered the door," he added. "Had I known, I would've been dressed more appropriately. I doubt your argument will stand up."

Yeah, all right. We can search for the book while you search for trousers. And enough spare change to pay your fine.

Belthazor held his arm out to usher Zero and Janet into the room, then closed the door on Parker and Callisto. "Be my guest. Please leave Phoebe's stuff alone, as well as my personal stuff. As for the fine, I already told you, I don't have the money. You're going to have to bill me. Charge it to my tuition payment, that way my foster dad will cover it."

He turned his back on them and began to get dressed, pulling a white t-shirt over his head before dropping the towel and pulling on a pair of black jeans.

[OOC: The book is under the bed. Phoebe's suitcase is open and half-packed with her stuff. Crumbled wrapping paper overflowing in the trashcan. Everything else is pretty normal except for one small locked drawer on the desk.]

~~*has plenty of screencaps to prove what a fine posterior it is*~~ Bel turned around and blinked at Zero. "Oh, that's right, I heard the library talks to you," he said.

Yes, and it says the book hasn' been returned yet. *starts poking at Phoebe's suitcase in case she's trying to smuggle it out of Fandom*

Bel pulled the suitcase out of Zero's reach, making sure the box with the promise ring was still safely covered. "If you think," he said calmly, "that Phoebe is attempting to steal the book, then you and I are going to have words outside of the school. I know people think she's crazy for being with me, but there are a lot of issues where we don't see eye to eye. And I told you to leave her stuff alone."
