The Gym, Sunday Afternoon

Cally has wandered her way down to the gym. She's done enough fiddling with her new tools, reading, etcetera. The kickball game had sadly proven her athletic inadequacies. She was going to fix that.

She starts with running laps around the gym. After that, she would go to the weight room, and after that, she's grabbed one of Anders' Pyramid balls and plans to mess about on the court a bit.

No way the best Pyramid player on campus was gonna have a pipsqueak weakling for a girlfriend.

"Right," Cally says, grabbing a suitably light weight off the rack. "Just the one? Or should I take two?"

Anders sits down on one of the spare weight benches and thinks about this. "Let's start you off with just the one for now, and you can switch it between hands, 'kay?"

He shows her a few basic exercises and explains what muscles they work, then sits back on his bench and takes a dumbbell for himself. "Okay. Let's do ten reps of each and then switch hands. Sound good?"

"Sounds fine to me." Cally nods, and then proceeds to do just that.

"That's my coach," grins Anders, going through the exercises with her. "You doing okay there? 'cause I gotta say, you look really damn good."

"Thanks." Cally wipes the small amount of sweat off her brow and shrugs. "I guess I'm doing fine. Dunno how much energy I'm gonna have left after all this, though."

Anders laughs and switches the dumbbell to his other hand. "You'll get used to it, if we keep this up regularly. Gotta warn you though, you're gonna be sore in the morning. But you could probably convince me to give you a massage." He leans forward and winks, adding, "I mean, as it is, you've got pretty good stamina, coach."

Cally sticks out her tongue a little and then shoves Anders playfully. "Dork."

Anders sticks his tongue out back and drops his head, looking up at Cally in his trademark puppydog-faced way. "Yeah. But I'm your dork."

Cally sets down her free weight and leans in to give Anders a quick kiss. "Wouldn't have you any other way."

"Good to know," he replies, grinning and patting Cally's knee with his free hand. "Don't think I could change that, anyway. You ready to go another rep cycle here?"

"Ready." Cally nods, and proceeds to go through her reps. "Hoo. I'm gonna feel this in the morning, yeah."

"Hey, didn't I say I was gonna give you a massage?" Anders switches to a slightly heavier dumbbell and goes through the reps with her. "Besides, you cool down properly afterward and then hit a nice hot shower, and it shouldn't be too bad. Trust me on this, okay, coach? Promise I'll take care of you."

"Hot shower, huh?" Cally in no way waggles her eyebrows or smirks.

"Best way to keep those muscles loose." Anders nods. Completely and totally seriously. "Hot shower and massage. Maybe even both at once."

Cally nods, completely and totally seriously. "Girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do, I guess."

"Definitely." Anders nods. "Up for a little bit of leg-toning work now, maybe?"

Cally shrugs. "I'm up for anything. You just gotta show me what to do."

"Cool." Anders nods and puts the free weights away. "Stair-climber might be the easiest thing, and it's pretty self-explanatory."

He points it out to Cally and then takes the treadmill beside it. "Now, take it easy, but let's try and go at least twenty minutes."

Cally gets on the stair-climber and shakes her head. "It's like climbing stairs, only you don't get anywhere. Fun."

"Hey. Better than actually climbing stairs and possibly getting knocked over by somebody coming the opposite way." Anders grins. "I mean, I'm jogging in place here."

"Oooh, ow. Yeah. That'd suck. No running into people on stairs." Cally continues to forge her way upwards to nowhere. "No running into people in general, actually. Not fun."

"Yeah, tell me about it." Anders rubs the back of his head. "Still sore from when Crichton knocked me over."

He looks over at Cally, suddenly remembering something. "D'you realize we missed a holiday yesterday? Yesterday and today, I mean?"

"Stupid Thirteenth Colony holidays. Today's the first day of the new year, apparently, and there's supposed to be a big thing at midnight on New Year's Eve? I heard it on the radio. Big old party, and Crichton said something about kissing at midnight to ring in the new year. Kinda sounded like fun."
