Third Floor Common Room, Wednesday Evening.

Slightly unnerved by the welcome party down on the first floor, Callisto retreated to the common room and started flicking through the tv channels. She finally found a rerun of Bitterwoman, and better still she hadn't seen this one yet.

"I am sorry. I don't mean for her to have said that to you," says Archie. "And I do apologize for getting carried away. I intended no slight to you, truly."

Jaye shrugs. "Know what? If you're going to do this thing with Parker, fine. Just tell me now so I can cut my loses and keep my anti-emo streak going."

"There is no thing, Jaye, other than my own lack of judgment in letting a foolish moment get carried away." Archie twists at one of the buttons on his coat. "I honestly didn't mean to upset you."

"She doesn't seem to think there's no thing. I mean, we're not even dating, so you can do what you want."

Archie shrugs, awkwardly. "She's . . . hard to resist. But I honestly never meant to lead you on. I did enjoy New Year's Eve with you, and most certainly would not object to seeing you more often."

"Oh. I mean, I wouldn't mind it, either."

"Anders gets under my skin, and that dare provoked me. I am sorry, Jaye."

"Yeah," she says. "It's fine, I guess."

"Honestly." Archie looks at her intently. "If you are angry with me, you've a right."

"No, I don't," she says. "We kissed a couple times. That's it."

Archie nods slowly. "If you'd prefer to simply leave it at that . . ."

She looks a little uncomfortable. "I didn't say that."

Pause. "Besides, Rory and Callisto and Marty would kill us if we did. They might get a posse together."

Archie laughs. "Gathering quite the following, aren't we? We oughtn't let them down, I suppose. And for what it's worth, I'm glad you didn't say that."

"So am I," she says, maybe a little grudgingly just for show. "So, I'll see you later?"

"If you'd like," replies Archie with exaggerated reluctance. "Perhaps tomorrow the commotion will have died down somewhat, and I can actually carry out my share of our punishment."

He shakes his head. "Too many people -- I still have difficulty being around groups that large."

"Yeah. It's a little busy," she says. "I've been in two common rooms and the lobby today, but I think I've met about half the newbies now..."

"Clearly I've been lax in my duties, then. I've met none." Archie smiles, embarrassed. "I heard all the noise in the lobby, and simply didn't leave my room."

"Well. We'll get you out and meeting," she says. "It'll quiet down. And if it doesn't, I'm going to be talking on the radio so long I'm going to ask Barbossa for hazard pay."

Archie laughs. "Are you still broadcasting through Bridge's dog? I did have fun that night. And John Crichton put the idea into my head to try doing it myself, some night. Someone has to at least put up an appearance of keeping the pirate honest, after all."

"Good luck with that," Jaye smiles. "I think Barbossa's ruined that. And yeah, I'm still using Bridge's dog. Which had to look weird when I did the New Year's broadcast..."

"You broadcasted on New Year's?" Archie looks perplexed. "I must have been drunk. I swear I don't remember that."

"Yeah, um. I called Bridge at some point and asked for his dog and broadcasted from the ladies' room sometime after I don't remember it anymore," she winces.

Archie certainly doesn't remember it. "You do realize that half a year ago, what you just said would have made no sense to me whatsoever, and I would have taken you for a lunatic."

"Well... you can still do that and you wouldn't exactly be wrong," she shrugs.

"Some would say we're all lunatics for choosing to stay at this school," he replies. "I wouldn't hold it against you."
