Moving Day (again!) - Second floor hallway

After her omgsoconfusing morning, Rory started to patiently move boxes of her things down the hall from room 236 to 213.

She is but one wee, clumsy, fairly weak girl though, so she would certainly appreciate any help offered.

Angela turns an even brighter red and sinks to the floor of the hallway, face covered by her hands. "Ohmygod. You got the same message I did, didn't you? About making out and meeting him in his room and the ferrets? I was kind of hoping he had mentioned ferrets to you for some other Marty reason." She peeks out from between her fingers. "We really don't talk about ferrets that often?" she says hopefully.

"So either he's hitting on you, which -- no offense, you're pretty and everything, but I so cannot see that -- or the phone system went crazy and everybody in school heard that message."

Angela isn't sure which would be worse just then.

Rory bit her lip, and crouched next to Angela. "I'm pretty sure it's that second one, since John called me earlier with a message for Anakin. And it's really not one that I think he would have wanted me to hear."

Angela doesn't really hear anything Rory says after "second one."

"My life is over," she moans. "Our life is over. I got a message from somebody else mentioning ferrets, too. We're going to be the ferret sex couple for the next million years, aren't we?"

"It had to be that message."

"He had to pick ferrets."

She goes back to the rocking. Then:

"Has anybody actually talked to Marty in person?"

"I haven't, no. If it's any comfort, I think a slightly incriminating message of mine might have gotten out," Rory winced.

"But ferrets?" Angela wails.

Then, realizing she's being even more self-centered than usual: "I'm sorry. What was your message about? Please don't say weasels."

"No weasels," Rory grinned. "It was for a...friend. And thankfully, I don't think I addressed the friend by name. But it was pretty clear I was talking to someone who I like quite a bit, with the tone and stuff. So it's possible Principal Smith thinks I like him or something."

"Oh my god," Angela says, because we're back to it being all. about. her. "I called Marty back. Three times. And it was -- you know. Mushy. AndImighthavementionedferrets."

Yeah, they're definitely going to be the ferret sex couple.

"I'm sorry. So this was a message for someone we might have talked about you theoretically kissing, right? Or is that old news now?" She's pitching her voice very low, hoping Anakin can't hear; the boys seem distracted anyhow.

"Yes. For that person. Who got into a fight with a not-so-theorectical ex of mine last night," Rory replied. "And seriously, don't worry about the messages. I got one from Cally in which she referred to Anders as a pet name that I wont share. Tons of people are going to be embarrassed."

Angela raises her eyebrows. "Knowing them? That fight thing cannot have been good." She glances down the hall at Anakin. "At least one of them seems to still be in one piece, so I'm guess they didn't completely try to kill each other?"

"But yeah. I think a lot of people are going to be way humiliated by today. I wonder if this explains why Lee Adama is calling me talking about underwear?"

"Parker and I broke it up. And I almost kind of side with Logan on this one. Kind of. I get why he was upset, anyway," Rory said cryptically.

"Sounds like a story," Angela says, sucking in her breath. "Want to tell me in private? Because I'm thinking this is really not something to talk about in the middle of the hall."

Rory nodded, and pulled Angela into 236 swiftly. She shut the door behind her.

"So, Anakin sort of did something bad, awhile back. Something I really don't approve of," she said quietly. "And Logan found out, and is pissed. But I know why Anakin did it. And it was for a good reason. And Logan was a jerk."

"Logan being a jerk is kind of a given," Angela says, feeling vaguely frightened. "What did Anakin do?"

"Um. Y'know how he can do...mind stuff?" Rory winced. "And y'know how I fell asleep in his room the night before Logan and I broke up? And um, Logan found us the morning after?"

"Kind of, no, and not at all," Angela says. "I bet that was a hugely fun conversation."

"But that's, like, a month ago. Is Logan still mad just that you stayed over with Anakin? You guys already broke up, so it's not like he should even care."

Rory cleared her throat. "Okay, um, no. Logan was really mad that morning, right? And um, when Logan gets mad, he hits people. And when Anakin gets mad...I've never seen it, but it doesn't sound pretty. So Anakin, in an effort to avoid anyone getting hurt...sort of...tweaked Logan's mind."

Angela takes a moment to process this, nodding along. Then it hits her. "You are not seriously saying Anakin fucked with Logan's head, are you? Because Anakin is so -- he seems so nice."

"No. I mean, yes, but no." Rory sighed. "It's not like what Drusilla did, or anything. Logan wouldn't believe us when we said nothing happened. Things were getting bad. And then suddenly Logan was totally cool, and saying he should have trusted us, and so on."

"And that's really nice for you and Anakin," Angela says, sounding angry. "But it really sucks for Logan."

She tries to make herself see Rory's side. "I mean, it sounds like a neat thing to be able to do, and, yeah, I can see why it would seem better than a fight, I guess, but -- that's seriously invasive. And how do you know he hasn't done it to you, too?"

"He wouldn't," Rory replied, echoing her statement from the same argument with Parker last night. She ran a hand through her hair. "And I don't like it either. I really, really don't. I told him it was incredibly invasive and wrong and that he can't do that without letting people know. He won't do it again. He feels awful about it. And honestly, Angela? I know this sounds stupid, but...he would never do it to be malicious."

Angela takes a long, long moment to respond.

On the one hand, she's seen Rory trust the wrong people before. It ended with Kitty dead and Rory and Logan in the infirmary for a week.

On the other hand -- Anakin isn't Angel. He's her friend, too, and she doesn't see real malice in him either.

If she had a third hand, it would go to deciding Anakin might be even more dangerous than the vampire.

And if she had a fourth hand, it would be debating whether she really wanted to get into a fight with Rory right then.

She sighs, finally, a long long sigh.

"I wasn't there. I can't judge what he did. I just hope you're right that he won't do it again."

"Take care of yourself, okay? I don't want to see you hurt again."

Rory nodded. "I talked to him. Parker tore into him. And Logan was...Logany at him." She made a face. "By the way? The Logan-and-Rory-staying-friendly campaign has come to a crashing halt. But Anakin won't do it again. It's a cultural thing, too. Like, it's not invasive where he's from."

"And vampires are just misunderstood?" Angela says, and regrets it. "Look, I can believe it's common at the Jedi Temple, or whatever. But I can't believe everyone is okay with it. And, plus, these are people who think it's okay to make little kids say they'll never have any emotional attachments. I like Anakin, but his society is ... very very different from what we're used to." She bites her lip. "I'm not saying it's bad, because I think I just don't understand it, and I know it means a lot to him. But just based on what I know? It all seems creepy."

Rory sighed. "I'm just saying that it's unnatural for him to think like we do. And he's still adjusting. And it's not creepy. It's just...different."

Angela shrugs, unable to discount the possibility that her discomfort with the Jedi way is simple prejudice. "I don't think I could be okay with it, but ... that's me, y'know?"

"I guess we can just hope this is a one-time thing for him."
