Second Floor Common Room

Rory, bored beyond all reason, wandered out to the common room.

She sat on the back of a couch and flipped onto it, keeping her legs hooked over the back.

She started watching Enchanted. Upside-down.

She would totally welcome any interruptions.

"Bridge Carson, sophomore," Bridge says. "So, I'm sure you've only heard this question like, eight million times in the past few days, but... how are things so far?"

"Bridge! I'm supposed to meet you because you're cheerful!" Blair bounced and started waving his arms as he talked.

"I lost all my clothes but I got some of Angel's and this Hawaiian shirt is from Broots who works for Parker and buys her flowers and I met someone who works in a brothel and ate new people cupcakes and slept on the floor and met people from other planets and I haven't seen any gremlins."

Blair paused and took a deep breath, thinking over what he said. "It was a cupcake for new people...not a cupcake made out of them. I think"

Bridge has never met anyone else who could talk like that without needing a breath.

"I've heard rumours about those cupcakes and I bet you'll run into gremlins pretty soon but that's cool about the people who come from other planets and I wonder if that person who works in a brothel was the scary girl I saw in Caritas and I've never met Broots so I don't know what to say about the flower thing or his taste in shirts but that's good that he and Angel let you borrow some clothes because having none would suck."

Blair nodded and bounced. "Man it does suck. But Angel is awesome and Broots is really cool too. She seemed really pretty, man. But not scary. Although I sorta bailed quickly. You don't think Cally's cupcake really had people in it, do you? She seemed really nice and Anders said that he doesn't beat people up, but I didn't ask about eating people."

"Things will work out, though. They always do! I like Angel, he's got a greenish-blue thing going for him. She winked at me, plus she sort of looks like my friend Rory, and that's kinda freaky. Oh, Cally's cupcakes? Cally doesn't make people-cupcakes. She and Anders are nice, we work together."

Blair frowned, "Greenish-blue? He just looked pale to me. Are we talking about the same Angel?"

Blair bounced. "Alright! I've never eaten people before and I think that would come with a LOT of bad karma. You work with them? What do you do? Do you fix spaceships too? Are you from Caprica?"

"Aura-wise, dude," Bridge informs Blair. "Yeah, eating people seems problematic. We fix anything and everything. And I'm not from Caprica, I'm from the future."

"You read Auras?" Blair bounced extra high. "Naomi does too. That's awesome! The future of here? This planet? Earth?" Blair's eyes were wide. "Cool on the fixing thing. Is that what your'e going to do when you grow up?"

"Yep! It's a thing. I can track energy too, but I'm not so good at that part yet. And yeah, Earth's future. But not, like, distant future. The not-too-distant future. 2020. And I'm going to be a Power Ranger, actually."

Blair's jaw dropped. "Energy? Like electricity through walls and plugs or negative energy or what? Do you get vibes? Wow, man, the future! I can't believe it. That's amazing! Man, I so want to ask you stuff but I don't think that would be right. Do you have sentinels in the future? Never mind!" Blair waved his hands and then plopped them over his ears. "I dont' want to know!" He said rather loudly. "What are power rangers?"

"Energy like... human energy. I can tell who's been in a certain place sometimes, or what direction they'll go next. I've never heard of Sentinels, but I've seen a Senturion before. Power Rangers are like, defenders of peace and justice and things like that. I'm going to be one with my friends Sky and Syd, we're training, but it's weird because there's only three of us and usually teams have at least five people."

"Wow, man. That's awesome. It is an echo of their aura or a change in heat or what? Lalalalala. I didn't hear anything about that!" Blair waved his arms a bit. "Maybe you're a special team of three. Like a triad or something?" Blair paused. "You're going to be a policeman type person? Like a pig...I mean, cop?"

"An echo!" Bridge bounces, "like you know how in movies and things ghosts are always these see-through kinda people? Like that. Maybe, I mean, Sky and Syd can both do things that most people can't, like me, but not in the same way that I can do things that are different. And yeah, sorta, I mean, it's more complicated but same sort of idea..." he looks at Blair wide-eyed, "is that a bad thing? Are you not allowed to hang out with future sort-of-cops?"

"Like an visible thing? You see ghost like things? Have you always been able to do that? That's awesome man, and especially to have friends that can do special things that are different than your special thing. That way you have a common bond but also a reason to hang out because of your strengths and weakness'." Blair bounced. "I'm totally impressed, man. I can't do anything really special, but that's okay. I like watching people more than I like being watched, which is easier if I'm not bright yellow or spitting marshmallows out my nose or something"

Blair frowned. "I so don't even know, man. Naomi always told me to watch out for the pigs. I mean, cops. She said they're working for the man. She never mentioned future-sort-of-cops specifically." He looked at Bridge curiously. "Do you work for the man?"

"As far back as I can remember, which I'm pretty sure means always, yeah. And hey, I never thought of it that way, but that totally makes sense, that whole strengths and weaknesses thing. And maybe watching people is your skill? I mean, you probably can figure out a lot about people just by observing them, right?" Bridge bounces and flails a little, "I don't work for the man. I work for Commander Cruger. He's a Sirian. Which means he's big and blue and sort of looks like a dog if a dog was walking around on two legs and wearing clothes and talking."

"Cool!" Blair bounces cheerfully. "Isn't it cool to learn a different way of thinking about things? I love that. And watching as my special skill would be awesome. And it would totally help out my career, which is really convienent." Blair thinks and then grins. "A walking and talking dog? Well, that's really, really not the 'man' that Naomi was talking about so I think I'm good. We can hang out!"

"It is! Thanks, man! So what *is* your future career gonna be? Since I told you mine you have to tell me yours! Yeah, the Commander sort of stuck out, like, a lot, when he came to visit for Parents Weekend but back in my time it's really not that unusual- lots of aliens live on Earth. I'm glad that we can hang out because you seem really, really cool. And you don't have any problems keeping up with me, which is a complaint I've heard in the past."

Blair looked at Bridge curiously. "Keep up with you? You aren't going anywhere. But I run pretty fast, so that's cool. Man,a lot has changed in the future. There's not aliens here now. I mean, not that I know about. I mean, not here at school." Blair shrugged. "Whatever"

"I'm going to be an anthropologist. Watching people for a living man, totally cool!"

"I mean, like, when I talk. Sometimes people get lost or confused. I don't know why! I make perfect sense to me! I'm pretty good at running, too, though, unless it's through mud. I'm not so fond of that. And actually? I think there *are* aliens here at school. And see, yeah, I can totally see you as an anthropologist. You sign up for that class this semester, then?"

"Yeah" Blair nodded and bounced at the same time. "I get that too! And I'm like, it's not in another language or anything! Come on! I hate mud. Well, not hate it. It's good for the enviroment and for people who like mud and for making mudpies, but I don't like running or walking in it. In fact, I don't care for getting rained on or being very cold. I like warm. And sun. Although I don't mind swimming or fishing." Blair pratically jumped. "Do you fish? I know how to fish with a spear. I learned in Chile. It's really awesome, I could teach you."

"Well, Cally and Anders are aliens, aren't they. At least to us. But then we would be aliens to them as well, because we are from a different planet than them. And if you look at alien just a person who comes from a different society than your own...then the whole school is made up of them!" Blair laughed a bit. "Totally, I hope I got it. I haven't gone to get my schedule yet."
