Basement pool, early afternoon

Feeling restless, Angel decided to go down to the now squid-free pool and do some laps.

Sean kept him company by sitting on the sidelines and chewing a squeaky toy.

Anyone who accused the vampire of having extra energy because he was nervous about a certain event with a certain girl that night would be immediately splashed.

Or dunked.

Possibly both.

Having heard about it from Aeryn last night, Nadia decided to head down to find the pool.

She didn't actually own a bathing suit, but she figured that after Friday night, most of the school had seen her in her underwear, anyway, so stripped down as she walked into the pool area.

She gave Maia a wave just before diving in. She hadn't noticed Angel, just yet.

Angel heard someone else dive in and made sure he wasn't in their way.

He didn't notice that Nadia was only in her underwear. Which was good because his date that night was going to be difficult enough without handing Callisto a good reason to kick his ass.

Nadia surfaced and blinked at Angel. "Oh. Sorry, I hope I'm not disturbing you or anything." She scissorkicked toward the edge of the pool. "I just figured it was time to check out the pool."

"Not at all," Angel assured her. "Actually, this is a good time to check out the pool. The squid's gone."

Nadia raised an eyebrow. "So I've heard." She glanced around the pool. "Just how big was this squid, anyway?"

"I actually never met it," Angel admitted. "Big enough to have kids though. Is there a size limit on that? Must be so many inches before making junior?"

Nadia made a face at the thought of squid-spawn. "Bugs have kids. So I'm thinking there's not a size limit."

"Point. Fortunately we don't have a bug problem at this school." Angel suddenly looked worried. "Yet."

Nadia blinked. "Yet? Why, are you planning something?" She raises an eyebrow to indicate she's just teasing. Unless he is planning something. . . .

"Oh no, no. Well, okay, now I have thoughts about flying cockroaches and Parker's closet, but that's not what I was thinking of before. Just in a school with a squid and all those gremlins, it wouldn't surprise me to find out the bugs - I dunno - have their own culture hidden in the walls and they're just waiting to take over."

Nadia grinned. "Who knows, maybe they'll come in peace? Or they're the ones behind the weird locker."

"That one I know. The locker's got these huge things in it that're like Chihuahuas but with longer tails. You'd almost want to call them - I dunno - oddly sized rats or something, but I don't think those exist."

Nadia smiled and shook her head. "I think that's the first time anyone here has said that something doesn't exist."

"Unicorns," Angel assured her. "Totally fake. In my dimension, anyway."

"Of course it would be one of the things that's supposed to be nice that doesn't exist." Nadia smiled. "I think I'm beginning to see how things work here."

"Tiny giraffes are real," Angel said. "Dunno if that evens it out any."

Nadia's mouth opened and closed a few times. "Tiny giraffes? Is that a metaphor for something, or actual, six inch tall animals with long necks?"

"Actual giraffes," Angel said. "Or at least one. Little guy. Pretty sure his name is Earl."

Nadia peered at Angel. She was pretty sure it wasn't a sign of her continuing mental health that after four days at the school, tiny giraffes named Earl were what it took to stretch her credibility, and not, say, continued talk of giant squids, or Mexican hairless dogs in lockers. "Earl. The giraffe. Was it in the locker, too?"

"I think it was running around the island," Angel said. "Not sure. Anything that takes place in sunlight I try not to get involved in."

Nadia smirked. "Afraid to get skin cancer?"

"I'd never look good with a tan," Angel deadpanned back.

Nadia shook her head. "With your coloring? Actually, you probably would."

"Yeah, probably," Angel sighed. "Unfortunately no go. There's a whole setting on fire thing that's just not fun."

Maia waved back completly not phased by an underware clad Nadia, in fact she enjoyed the view for a moment.
