Basement pool, early afternoon

Feeling restless, Angel decided to go down to the now squid-free pool and do some laps.

Sean kept him company by sitting on the sidelines and chewing a squeaky toy.

Anyone who accused the vampire of having extra energy because he was nervous about a certain event with a certain girl that night would be immediately splashed.

Or dunked.

Possibly both.

Seeing another person out of the corner of his eye, Angel indicated the lane he was in. "Am I in your way?"

Lana jumped and blushed a little, "Oh no, you're not in my way at all. Um... you're Angel, right?"

Angel treaded water so he could look at her better. "Yeah. Lana, right? I don't know if we've met. Or - uh, if we've met. Whatever I did without the soul I totally apologize for."

"Lana, yes, and no, we haven't met before, which is kind of what..." Lana hesitates, then moves closer and sits on the edge of the pool near him so everyone else won't necessarily overhear. "Um... you called me the other day and sounded kind of upset in your message - which was pretty confusing itself."

"Oh god." Angel looked horrified. "Which one did you get? Please tell me not the one about tonight."

"Um... you made some comment about not wanting to see me naked." Lana blushed furiously "And something about a slumber party that was with miners and not nuns. I really didn't understand it at all, but you seemed pretty upset with me, so I don't know if someone told you I said something or what, but I thought maybe I should find you and straighten things out." She was bright red by this time.

Angel covered his face with his hands. The action made him dip down into the water. He quickly righted himself. "Oh God. I am so, so sorry about that. I would never tell you that I didn't want to see you na - um - " He coughed, his cheeks coloring " - I mean, not that I would because that'd be - I mean - Um -"

Lana blushed again, wondering if that meant that he *did* actually - oh, *so* not going down that road. "Then why the message? Did someone say I'd said something or...?"

"The phones were nuts," Angel said. "Nothing I sent went anywhere it was supposed to. This one message I meant for my girlf - um - Callisto went haywire, another one got shot to Becky in town. See? This is why I don't trust cellphones. They're the work of wizards. Evil wizards."

"The phones? Oh God..." Lana closed her eyes, "I really need to start listening to the radio. I bet they talked about the phone troubles and then I wouldn't have completely embarrassed myself here."

She gives him a half-smile. "I'm really sorry. I guess that explains a couple of other messages I - Oh God..." her face goes completely pale.

"Lemme guess - you left a few choice messages too?"

Well, I think the ones I returned were okay, but I left one for Shep that, well... that I wouldn't really have wanted anyone else to hear. I assumed he didn't say anything about it because he's been sick, but... Oh god." She put her face in her hands. "This is really embarrassing."

Angel gave her a look of sympathy. "A message I meant for Logan got sent to Callisto instead. She thought I was trying to break our date."

"You got it straightened out, I hope?" Lana asked. "I don't see Callisto as being the quiet understanding type."

"There was groveling. I might've even called her 'sweetie'. It's all a blur."

"Groveling is always good. And I'm sure the sweetie didn't hurt," Lana says with a smile. "You really like her, don't you?"

Angel in no way looked intimidated. "Yes? Maybe? I - I'm a little new at this. Last girl I was with resulted in me wanting to destroy the world. I'm hoping that won't always happen."

"Yeah, no wanting to destroy the world or anything for me, but my track record last semester was pretty bad. Somehow ran into a spell and completely forgot the first one and my guardian threatened to have the second one ruined or killed if I didn't break things off." She shook her head. "I'm still kind of waiting for the other shoe to drop with Shep. Or for me to do something to screw it up."

"I get that," Angel said. "Things have been going so well I feel like at some point something's going to go off. Some big bad will hit town, I'll get the soul ripped out - something. I'm just not comfortable if the world isn't ending every Tuesday."

"I know. I haven't been attacked or abducted by a mutant in months. It just feels wrong. Not that I enjoyed any of that, it's just here I always feel like I'm waiting for something to happen."

"Hey, maybe we should form a club," Angel said, half-seriously. "A support group for everybody who's hometown is actually weirder than this place."

Lana laughed, "Yeah, for everyone who's just waiting for what has to be coming. Wonder which faculty member we could get to sponsor it?"

"Well, Jenny - uh, I mean Ms. Calendar's from a form of my hometown. She could at least sympathize with the cause. Not sure if she's too busy with I-club though."

Lana looked thoughtful. "You know, maybe we should try to get a club like that together. I mean, all joking aside, it might be... nice to be with people who understand. Maybe we could get together and talk about it some more later? When we're actually, you know, dressed and all."

Angel belatedly remembered he was talking to Lana while half-naked. "Um - yes. That - that could be good. Oh! Maybe we could help out the kids who don't come from places like ours? Not sure how, but if we're the ones with experience I bet we could do something to help others adjust to zombies, lockers, and gremlins."
