Gym - Self Defense

The set is up familiar to anyone who showed up last term. There are mats spread out on the floor and a table off to the side is holding cookie, lemonade, soda, and Vote for Alanna! posters. Alanna herself is perched on another table.

"Hey guys, welcome back to the people who were here last semester, welcom to the newbies. I'm Alanna and your person in charge for the night. Here's the deal, I have no idea how many/who is showing up tonight, so I'm just going to pare you up. One person attacks, the other tries to get away. People attacking, your hurt your person, I hurt you. No weapons, no magic. I watch, and I'll have a list of things we need to work on for next week. Okay, don't kill each other!"

Bug Alanna.

Walter strolls in and signs in as an attacker.

"Hey, I heard your radio broadcast last night. Roasted freshmen..." Walter wrinkles his nose at her in mock-irritation.

Alanna shrugged. "Well, what else would you do at a bonfire? Except sing, and I've heard people here do that and. No. Please. No more. How'd I sound?"

"Pippi knows how to put on a good party. You sounded brilliant, but who was in the studio with you?"

"Thanks." Alanna closed her eyes. "My cat."

"Your cat? Right. Is your cat..." Walter groped for a way to ask if her cat was a normal cat, but who knew what anyone around here thought was normal.

New subject. Good idea.

"I hear we're the only two students allowed weapons. I know why I get to keep mine." And he would not be spreading around the 'too short' excuse he'd given Agent Principal. "Why are you allowed to keep yours?"

Nadia slinks in, still on edge after shop class.

Hitting something, even if it's just pretend, sounds like just what she needs.

Other than possibly a lot of tequilla or rum.

"New girl, defending or attacking?"

"Yeah, the cat talks. I got to keep Lightning." Alanna shifted her weight so that the sword was visible. "Because other wise? Not good for people within a mile radius, I'm just saying. What's your reason?"

Nadia considers this for a momen. If she's attacking, she might not want to control her hits.

"Defending, please."

"Woo, go pare up with Walter. Do you have a name?"

Walter and Nadia, have at it.

"You're with Nadia."

Shep comes in. Brace once again in place. He figures if he's been cleared for P.E. he can start participating in self-defense again too.

He'd attack when some came in wanting to get jumped.

"Yeah. Sorry. Hi. I'm Nadia." She glances at Walter, her attacker for the evening. He doesn't look like he hurts easily.

Good.

Reserved for some canine chaos.

"Nice to meet you, you're allowed to hurt your attacker, just not too much, please."

"Hey, Alanna," Bel greeted her. "Need any attackers?"

"Yo, attacking, right?"

"As of now? No, but hang around, I'm sure someone will show up. How you been?"

Tiger had smelled new people in the air and this excited him. He barreled out of the room he was in and followed his nose. When he came into the new room...he gave a happy bark and ran at the first person he saw...Alanna. He playfully knocked her to the ground and started licking her in greeting.

Nadia takes up position on the mats, watching Walter carefully. Her hands are lightly balled into fists and she stands slightly on the balls of her feet.

Walter coughed at the question. "A couple of reasons. One is that it is something that requires more practice than you can get in an hour a day. It's more like a way of life."
