First Floor Lobby [Monday Evening]

Fraser's taken enough time to go back to his room, change out of his uniform and into jeans and a sweater before he ends up back in the first floor lobby of the dorms.

He's sitting on one of the benches in the lobby, reading a book from the library he'd acquired earlier and just keeping a general eye on things. Later, he'll venture outside, make sure the school was still secure.

Eighth peers in looking for Doctor Pierce and is pleasantly surprised by a new pretty face. "Hello?" she says.

"Good evening, ma'am." Fraser closes his book and stands up. "How are you this evening?"

"Fine and thank you, sir," she replies easily. "You're new to Fandom, I suppose? Haven't see you around."

"Fairly new, yes," he answers, nodding. "I just arrived last Friday after being hired late last Thursday. Benton Fraser, Royal Canadian Mounted Police and new head of school security."

"Well well well, Mr. Fraser," she says, eyeing him with far more interest now. "Head of... security? I think I'll sleep a lot safer now with you here."

"Well, I appreciate the kind compliment," he says, smiling widely. "I hope I can live up to those expectations."

She admires his fine figure. "I'm sure you will."

He smiles again, nodding. "Are you a member of the faculty, ma'am?"

"I am indeed, sir. This'll be my second semester teaching theory classes at Fandom," she says.

"Theory?" Fraser sets his book on the bench and crosses his arms. "What kind of theory do you teach, ma'am?"

"In relation to robotics and war tactics," she says vaguely.

"That sounds quite interesting," Fraser says, nodding. "I can admit to never studying either but I bet those subjects do keep the students interested."

Finally venturing out of his room for the night (these class-free Mondays were making him horribly lazy), Archie stops and kind of ogles at the sight of an unfamiliar face. After all, the man has a hat with as much character as his own.

"Hello. Are you new around these parts?"

"I am," Fraser answers, nodding. "I just arrived last Friday, actually. Benton Fraser, Royal Canadian Mounted Police and new head of school security. How are you this evening?"

Archie perks up a bit at the sound of the word "Royal," though "Canadian Mounted Police" throws him a bit. "Ah yes, I had heard that our previous head of security was gone. A shame, rather, as he was quite the singular personage, but I'm pleased to see that no time was wasted in choosing a replacement. And such a pretty replacement, at that."

He smiles and offers his hand. "Archie Kennedy, Royal Navy and member of the sophomore class. And doing all right this evening, thank you. Yourself?"

Fraser shakes his head, smiling politely. "Yes, unfortunately, Rover took his leave suddenly. I've heard he was quite the unique...thing."

"I'm doing well this evening, thank you for asking," Fraser replies. "Royal Navy? Might I ask how you ended up in Virginia?"

Archie laughs nervously. "To tell the truth, I'm not entirely sure. It was quite the displacement, both time and placewise. Supposedly I was sent here to fill some gaps in my education, and give me a better chance at promotion, but I'm beginning to doubt that. At any rate, here I am, and all things considered, adjusting decently enough."

He tilts his head a bit. "And you? How did you come to be this far south?"

Pippi is on her way out of the building when she sees a new guy in casual clothing hanging out in the Lobby.

"Hello there." she says pleasantly, "Are you lost?"

"I try," she says demurely.

Fraser listens to Archie's story, nodding every so often. It's a similar story and Fraser can sympathize with being so far displaced.

"I came from Chicago actually, which is a city in the north. I was working there for several years as a liaison for the Canadian consulate," Fraser explains. "As for how I made it down here, isn't the old adage: change is good?"

"Good evening," Fraser says, standing up as she approaches, "And no, I'm not. Benton Fraser, Royal Canadian Mounted Police and new head of school security."

"And I bet you succeed," Fraser compliments. "Do you have personal experience in robotics?"

"Change is most definitely good," replies Archie, nodding, "though I've resisted it mightily so far. After all, I've a century and a half of history and technology to catch up on. Do you know, I have yet to learn how to use the telephone?"

His cheeks flush slightly as he continues, "Though I'm beginning to think there may be sufficient motivation for me to learn, now."

She flutters her eyes just slightly. Damnit wired-in impulses. "A bit, yeah."
