Self-Defense - Wednesday evening, Gym

Students entering the gym in the evening are greeted with the sight of a black cat bouncing up and down on a window-sill. The gym is set up the way it always is: matts on the floor, a table with food and Alanna.

"Okay, today? We will be working on kicking. If you're being attacked, I don't recommend it unless you feel like you have enough experience to be quick about it. If you are going to kick, "kick" with your knee. If your attacker is male, aim low. If you're being kicked, try to grab and stop the foot, usually by grabbing on. If you get it right, the person should fall over, or at least loose their balance." She clapped her hands. "Pair up, practice kicking, usual rules apply. I'll be perched by the cookies and lemonade."

Nadia and Pippi

Pippi is bouncing on the balls of her feet.

"Do you want to attack or defend?" she asked.

Nadia gave a little shrug as she came up to the matts. "Either way. You wanna take it slow at first, practice the basic movements before we try to hurt each other? Or should we jump right in?"

"Well we jumped right into it last week." she said. "That was fun."

Nadia grinned. "Yeah it was. But I promised Alanna to try not get get injured this time. Maybe a few practice kicks just to make it look like I'm actually trying."

Pippi laughted. "Miss. Pricillia always said," her voices take on a high pitched mocking tone, "Appearances are important!" she laughs again and her voice returns to normal.

"Okay. Go ahead and try to kick me." She doesn't drop into a defensive stance or anything. She just stands there.

Nadia laughed slightly, then shifted gently onto her left foot and lifted her right into a side kick, directing the power from her knee through her heel. She aimed for Pippi's midriff, fully expecting to be grabbed and to adjust her balance for it.

Pippi does not move at all, fully expecting to be kicked in the midriff...

Does this throw off Nadia's balance? Let's watch!

Nadia's foot connects, which surprises the hell out of her, and she stumbles back as Pippi doesn't even move. She barely gets her right leg down and behind her to keep herself from falling. She straightened. "What, you're not even going to try to block?" She shook her head. "Okay, we'll play it that way." She grinned. And kicked again, this time aiming lower for the knee.

Pippi dropped into a sitting position, the kick was now comming at her head but she reached her hand up to take hold of Nadia's ankle.

"I just wanted a better idea of how strong you are." She said

Nadia wobbled on one foot, making a face at Pippi. She was getting a little tired of show offs. Then she grinned. "Okay, your turn." She wobbled her foot at Pippi's face. "So long as you give me my foot back, first."

"Ummm... No." she said.

"So what do you do when somebody has your leg and you ask them nicely to give it back and they refuse?"

Nadia looked thoughtful. "Good question." She dropped herself to the matt, slapping her hands down to break her fall as she aims her free foot at Pippi and pulled back on the foot in the girl's grip.

Pippi let go of Nadia's foot and laid flat as her other foot came around and passed over her. She pulled up her arms and kipped up, then looked down at Nadia.

"Good answer." she said, "Now if I was a big bad evil pirate, and not a sweet young thing... I'd try to stomp on your head right about now."

Pippi apparently, was somewhere between a big bad evil pirate and a sweet young thing, because after announcing it, Nadia got a really good look at the bottom of Pippi's shoe.

Lucky for Nadia, she hadn't stepped in anything today.

Nadia, fortunately, had already started rolling as soon as Pippi released her foot. One thing she'd learned in the streets was to always not be where someone expected you to be.

Still, Pippi missed by inches.

The other thing she'd learned on the streets was sometimes, staying down was the best option. She went for a spin kick at Pippi's knees from below.

Pippi was unfortunately leaning over to offer a hand to her friend when Nadia's leg swung around and swept her off her feet.

"Oof!"

Nadia was rolling again. And managed to roll right under Pippi accidentally. "Woah!"

Then she started laughing. "Let's try that again."

Pippi rolled off Nadia and got up.

~~"Why to you always end up under me?"~~

"Yes, once more." she said, "With feeling."

And went for another stomp.

~~"What can I say? I like it on bottom,"~~

Nadia went with her strengths. And rolled. Straight into Pippi's supporting leg.

Okay, so they were supposed to be working on kicks, but, hey, this was self-defence, right?

~~"Damnit, I never get to be the bottom! It's not fair!"~~

Pippi started to fall, but she was in the process of stomping with the other foot and managed to catch her balance with that one.

She twisted around to face Nadia and put her other foot down, scooting back. Bouncing on the balls of her feet.

"Would you like to play every pirate's favorite game?" she asked.

~~"Ooh, baby, for you, I'll top"~~

Nadia frowned at her from the ground, then cautiously adjusted into a crouch. "What game would that be?"

She tried to make sure she was ready to move in any direction, depending on what the pirate girl would do.

~~"Promises promises."~~

"Punchy Face-y." said Pippi, and her fist shot out from the left at Nadia's jaw.

Nadia leaned back and landed on her butt. Yeah, she'd been afraid of that. . . .

"Kicks, Pippi!" She was laughing even as she rocked sideways and back into her crouch. "We're supposed to be working on kicks!"

"Kicky face-y?" she said.... "Okay."

Up came the foot.

Nadia was going to have to learn to keep her mouth shut. She rolled to her hands and knees and launched a one legged donkey kick, back at Pippi's kicking foot.

Yeah, so Pippi would probably win. But she would probably manage to confuse the heck out of her.
