Wednesday Morning: Second Floor Common Room

Marty sits in front of his laptop trying to come up with his own personal theory of justice for ACJ.

The theory really shouldn't be much of a problem, it's trying to somehow work a pillow into the concept that's giving him grief.

Anyone who would like to distract him from this task would probably be welcome.

"Hey," said Janet, coming into the common room, still in her pajamas and with messy hair, and plopping down onto one of the couches. "Everything okay?"

"Yeah," Marty sighed. "Just trying to get this make-up assignment for ACJ done. How've you been? We haven't had a chance to catch up since I got back."

"I didn't even realize you were gone for a week," admitted Janet sheepishly. "Which I put down to the flu. I'm recovered now, thank goodness." Janet sighed. "I've got to do the same essay for ACJ. I think my theme is trains. I hate metaphors. But things are pretty good otherwise."

"Yeah, my theory has to work in a pillow somehow," Marty nodded. "The metaphor thing used to be a lot easier in class but lately I've been struggling to come up with something. Thank God for extra credit. Sorry to hear you weren't feeling well."

"A pillow? Okay, you have it worse than I. I just have to think up some sort of 'tunnel of justice' metaphor and go with it the whole way through the paper." She frowned. "I've never been good at metaphors. Ever. In fact, writing anything remotely creative isn't my strong point." Janet leaned back on the sofa. "I huddled in bed for a week. I've missed having you in the room, though. It's a little too empty with just me and Liz."

Angela came in and leaned over Marty's head, waving to Janet. "Hey. I didn't break anything on that thing, did I?"

"Hey," said Janet, waving to Angela.

"Hey," Angela said. "Did I hear you guys right? You have to write metaphors?"

Janet nodded. "We both missed our presentations for ACJ, so Professor Tick assigned us five page papers on our personal theory of justice," said Janet. "Which would have worked better if he hadn't given us themes we have to write metaphors of justice on."

"I'm kiond of afraid to ask what the themes are," Angela said. "But -- if you need help, I'm pretty good at -- you know. Writing stuff. When I actually do it."

Marty looked up and smiled. "Nope. Nothing broken, just trying to get this assignment done for ACJ. Then I have to write a paper for Sociology since I missed the final. How are you this morning?"

"Math still makes my head hurt," Angela said. "You're lucky you get to write a paper for soc. I know I blew that final."

"What's your paper going to be about?"

Marty nodded sympathetically. "Math can make anybody's head hurt and I'm sure you did better on the test than you think you did. As for my paper? I have no idea what to write. Maybe I'll do something on Bigfoot."

"I kind of didn't study," Angela admitted. "Which is also why math makes my head hurt. I cut Geometry, like, half of last year."

"Bigfoot is cool, though. Have you ever seen that film of him running around in Oregon or something?"

Nadia leaned in on her way down to her shop class and waved at Marty. "Hey, are you and Angela all set for the prom?"

Marty flinched a little and shifted uncomfortably in his seat. "Um. I don't think so. I still need to get a tux and I'm sure she has dress stuff to do. Are you going?"

Nadia noticed the flinch, but decided it was probably just Marty being formal wear shy. "Yeah. I asked Walter last night, actually." She grinned. "I'm going to have to go looking for a tux, too."

"Are you wearing the tux or is he?" Marty asked while fidgeting slightly. "Or are you two planning on doing that sex change thing again?"

"Well, I was going to just go with both of us in tuxes and the right sex, but then Walter said I should try being a boy, so I said he had to be a girl in a dress, then and . . ." She shrugged. "I was really just trying to cheer him up with a joke. But now I think we're actually going to do it."

"I still need my dress," Angela said. "I think we're going shopping Thursday."

[nadiathesaint]

"I think maybe everyone is going shopping on Thursday." Nadia tilted her head. "This island will have no tuxes or dresses left by close of business tomorrow."

Marty wiped his forehead which seemed to be beaded with a little sweat. "Is it warm in here or just me?"

Nadia gave him an odd look. "It's fine."

Then she turned to continue goofing about over dresses and formal wear with his girl friend.

"And then there will be massive panic in the streets?" Angela suggested with a grin. "People who went shopping late will need to make dresses out of bedsheets and curtains. Or go in jeans, which is, like, worse."

[nadiathesaint]

"Absolute chaos will rain in the form of people attempting to dance in jeans. We'll have to call in a full squad of British butlers with tailoring skills just to try to maintain order."

Nadia was beginning to develop a great deal of respect for British butlers.
