5th floor common room, noonish

Buffy had found the little kitchenette attached to the common room. There were lots of cereals there, but there was also flour, milk and eggs...

Oooh, pancakes! thought Buffy, and rummaged through the cabinets for a bowl and a frying pan.

She wasn't a paticularly good cook, but pancakes should be easy, right?

She could totally do it.

She stared at the flour. "I can do this. Yup. Um."

((ooc: getchor breakfast here!))

Nadia grabbed some paper towels to clean up the egg that got on the counter. "Maybe two and a half eggs?" The batter had a fair amount of eggshell in it, which Nadia made a valiant attempt to pick out. "Try going a little bit softer when you crack in. Just a tap."

Nadia smiled back, though a small line appeared between her eyebrows. "Much better. Want me to get the last one?"

Nadia was not what most would consider an expert cook. She had a particularly creative approach of just tossing together whatever she had handy and then coating it with enough hot sauce to kill your taste buds off so you didn't notice if it wasn't the best food in the world.

She did know how to crack and egg, though. "Okay. We have flour, milk, water, and eggs. We need chocolate chips."

"Yeah. You mix them into the batter and then you have chocolate chip pancakes. You could also use nuts or berries or bananas or anything, really."

"I think there's some crushed pineapple. . . . and I'm pretty sure we have chocolate chips. And I always have lots of hot sauce." Nadia grinned. "You'll get used to it before you know it. But yeah, I remember how weird it was my first couple of days. At least the voicemail didn't go on the fritz for you."

"I don't think so? It only happened that one time." Nadia smiled slightly. "Confused the heck out of everyone, though. People's voicemails went to the wrong place all day. I spent most of my day really angry because I thought the first guy I'd met here was already trying to offer me ferret sex."

"Euphemism. For wild, happy sex. Which I guess you can worry about or not worry about as much as you want?" Nadia shrugged. "It turned out it was a message for his girlfriend that got routed to everyone. But like I said, that only happened that one day. And so far, the weird things don't really seem to repeat themselves."

"Pretty much. I mean, some of it is tack a new word in front of 'monster'. Snow monsters, fish monsters, birthday monsters. . . . But sometimes it's something really weird like, say . . . accidentallyturningyourbossintoanappletree."

"It was an accident!" Yeah, it had happened over a month ago, but Nadia was still just a touch freaked out by it. "I was just walking home, singing a kids song, and poof! Lucas was a tree!"

"You're telling me. I had to spend half the next day in the library trying to figure out how to turn him back. I still don't know how I did it."

"Or throw apples. He did that a lot. And, yeah. He just kind of wasn't a tree any more."

"Yeah, and now we're not allowed to listen to kids songs at work any more."

"I'm sure that was his greatest worry," Nadia said with apparent seriousness. Then she grinned. "It's hard to tell. Lucas can be very . . . stoic. But I don't think he liked being a tree very much."
