Gym, early Saturday

It was very early on Saturday morning, so hopefully there wouldn't be anybody else around in the gym. She needed to work out some frustration, preferably without being recognized by more people she had never seen before in her life.

She pulled out the mats, laying them down at a decent distance from each other, then stepped onto on one and thought for a moment.

Aeryn has been thinking about that. A lot.

"Has to be done," she shrugs. "I'll probably do it forever. Thank you, Fandom."

"Give a yell if you need a second opinion," she hesitated, then said, "It's not so bad to be on your guard, Aeryn, but you should know that not everywhere on Earth is like Fandom. There are places that aren't always under attack or preparing for an attack. Um, just stay out of Colorado."

"I know," she says. "I know that things here don't exactly reflect the rest of the world. It'll be an adjustment when I get there, but... Habit."

"Yeah. Habit."

"And then it will be me placing calls to Angel and seeing if he needs help with anything," she says, almost casually. Because she can see it happening.

"Just don't e-mail him," Sam smiled slightly, "or he might not get the message until too late."

"He'll be lucky to have you there, you know."

"I don't use E-mail unless I have to anyway," she says.

"And he knows that already."

"I imagine he does." Sam looked over at Aeryn, "Are you alright? I know you two were close."

She nods. "I'll see him and there will be more room in the closet now. It's fine."

"Uh huh," Sam said, not sure she was buying it. "Closet space is important."

"Not really, but I couldn't not tease him about it."

"No, I get that," Sam said.

She shakes it off. "How have you been?"

"Okay," she shrugged, brushing her hair out of her eyes as she ran, "I've been mostly staying out of the way the last few days."

Aeryn looks around the gym. "You have talent," she says, as it's hard to go anywhere without tripping over a newbie these days.

"It's an acquired skill," she said. "Science labs are generally good for that kind of thing."

"Can't say I've ever spent much time in those, so I'll have to take your word for it."

Sam smiled over at her. "Probably best. Most people avoid them like the plague anyway."

"So... what's so interesting about it?" she asks, because she has to wonder.

And that's kind of a dangerous question to ask Sam if you don't have four hours. She lit up. "It's a way to explore and understand the world around us, and to make guesses and theories about things we don't understand yet."

"There are rules to the universe--and I love finding out what they are, how things work, how they can change how you see the world, and the galaxy and universe as a whole. There's just so much out there to understand."

It occurs to Aeryn that she's never really seen Sam geek out before. Or it would if she had learned the word 'geek' yet, which she hasn't. "I'll leave that up to you," she says, because she's lost just hearing that much.

"Sorry," she said, a bit sheepishly, "I tend to get carried away."

"That's fine," she says. "It's just a little over my head."

"There's no quiz," she said, laughing, "but I hear that a lot. It's okay if you don't understand it, or don't want to understand because, honestly, most people don't." She grinned at Aeryn, "and it keeps my lab free of people, usually, which means I can get stuff done."

Aeryn smiles back. "So really, I'm doing you a favor."
