Third Floor CR, evening

Looking for something to distract himself from moping, Bel sprawled on the couch of the third floor common room, flipping through the channels of the TV. He settled on an episode of the History Channel's "Mega Diasters" series: West Coast Tsunami. Violence and destruction. Perfect.

Alanna laughed. "Fandom never throws the same thing at us twice. Zombies were just the first thing it threw at us."

"Darn. I hate missing a good zombie."

"There are good zombies?"

"No, that's not what I meant. I meant that on the fighting scale, zombies aren't so bad--they're pretty stupid and singularly focused. Plus, if you get whoever's controlling them, the fight ends pretty quickly."

"I prefer vampires. They're less icky. And they don't leave stains on your sword. Except then Logan threw up on me and my wrist got broken."

"Oh, gross," Dawn complained, "And I'm still convinced that vampire dust causes cancer. Breathing too much of it just can't be good for you."

"Completely unproven. Just a theory."

"Right, I know that one. Cell's replicate wrong or something."

"Oh!" Dawn said, not realizing that Alanna hadn't understood what the disease was. "Um, yeah. Basically, cells grow uncontrollably and steal the food and stuff from the cells that need it, so those needed cells die, and the tumor keeps getting bigger and bigger," she explained, obviously becoming agitated and upset as her explanation continued, eventually blinking back tears.

Alanna flailed a little. "Sorry." She akwardly patted Dawn on the shoulder.

Dawn sniffled a little. "Thanks. My mom died of complications from a brain tumor a little over two years ago."

"Oh. I'm sorry." Alanna akwardly continued patting Dawn on the hand. "At least you go to know her and spend a lot of quality time with her?"

More sniffling, because really, she hadn't. "Mmmm."

Alanna continued with the akward patting. "I can convince my cat to come back and insult you a bit? Everything feels better when you're being insulted by a four inch cat."

"Okay," Dawn laughed. "I haven't been insulted nearly enough today."

Alanna mentally cheered for making Dawn laugh. "If you ever feel low on your insult quota, talk to my cat. Unless he likes you, he'll be sure to give you the best he's got. But as a warning, his taste is unpredictable. He liked Bel and Angel and really enjoys poking Xander."

"Xander's very pokable," Dawn smiled at her, then blushed. "Oh! Not like that! I meant that he's easy to tease, not that there would be another kind of poking that he might be good at or in high demand for, even I guess he is, since he's with Bridge, and..."

She buried her head in her hands. "Kill me, please."
