Third Floor CR, evening

Looking for something to distract himself from moping, Bel sprawled on the couch of the third floor common room, flipping through the channels of the TV. He settled on an episode of the History Channel's "Mega Diasters" series: West Coast Tsunami. Violence and destruction. Perfect.

"Congratulations. You just met your first mutant," One of the Jamie's said. "Think the hype is what it is cracked up to be?"

Marie shrugged. "Well, I'm glad I didn't hurt you," she said. "Um, I didn't, did I?"

"No. Not really. I take kinetic energy and transform it into another me," Jamie #2 explained. "You didn't hurt me. I didn't expect it. Usually I can control it but... well I've been having a few problems lately."

"So you don't always duplicate when you're hit?" Marie asked. "I think it would be kind of scary to have no control over something like that."

"Yeah, that's kind of the reason why I'm here," Jamie said grumpily as he absorbed his duplicate. "To help me get a grip on my power."

Marie blinked as the duplicate disappeared. "Where'd he go?"

"I absorbed him," Jamie tried to explain, "which is weird... but it helps keep the Jamie population down to a community of one. And if the duplicate had run around town for a bit I would have gained his memories as a result."

Jamie watched Marie carefully. "I'm not freaking you out am I? That's usually the perogative of upperclassmen."

"A little bit," Marie admitted. "But not in a bad way. This is all just really new to me. I'm not used to it."

Jamie looks again at Marie as a weird sense of deja vu comes over him again. He pushes it aside.

"Well where I come from mutants aren't really well accepted with the rest of the normal human population," Jamie said a little seriously. "And if your world has a mutant registration act in the works... well I just think you should know that being a mutant doesn't necessarily mean we're evil or anything."

Marie nodded. "I didn't think that," she assured him.

"Good," Jamies said a little relived. "I'm... uh... sorry about the shirtless thing."

Marie blushed. "That's okay. And I'm sorry I hit you."

"I deserved it," Jamie admitted. "But can you blame me? You're awfully cute when you blush."

That just made Marie blush harder.

"Wow... Never knew anybody could turn *that* red," Jamie said with a slight smirk.

Marie laughed. "I have fair skin," she protested.

"Not at the moment... They could use your face as a beacon out on Galactica Point," Jamie snickered.

"Do you want me to hit you again?"

"That's okay. Once was enough," Jamie said still grinning. "And before I do myself or anyone else any more embarassment I better head back to my room and check to see if Nadia made it back."

Marie smiled. "Tell her I said hi and that she should stop over tomorrow and tell me about her date."
