Sam stretched out on the grass, reading. Occasionally she sipped from a bottle of water. She was immensely botherable.

"I like my explanation better!" Elizabeth said, joining in with the laughter. "But yes, that could be it."

"Oh, the curse of being a smart woman who can multitask," Sam sighed dramatically.

"I find reading strange books helps."

"Always a good plan. Although I'm sure not all the books you read are strange. That wormhole one definitely qualifies though..." Elizabeth just grinned.

"Oh shush. Because reading Tolstoy in the original Russian is normal," she teased.

"It's perfectly normal," Elizabeth said haughtily, although the whole effect was spoiled by her grin.

"If you're Russian, maybe," she teased.

"I'm..." There were fingers frantically flying up as she did mental math. "A quarter Russian?"

"So, are you only going to read a quarter of each book?"

"I could if I knew how to do that."

"Maybe the top quarter? Or the last quarter?" Sam was definitely trying to be obnoxious now.

"But how would I know it would be a quarter? And maybe the Russian quarter of me is more influential over my other quarters, so would that mean that I'd need to read more than a quarter?"

"Now you're just looking for an excuse to read the whole book," Sam pointed out.

"What if I read a different quarter each time I read it?" Elizabeth asked, still looking for an excuse to read the whole book.

"God, you're just as bad as the rest of us. You just hide it better."

Elizabeth looked at her briefly. "Okay, this is extremely random; but may I take a photograph of your eye?"

Reflexively, Sam blinked. "Uh, okay?"

Elizabeth grinned, and opened up her bag. "It's for my photography workshop," she explained. "We're doing a photographic scavenger hunt, and one of our prompts is blue."

"Go ahead, but leave my nose out of it, please," she said, amused.

Elizabeth laughed, turning off the flash and carefully positioning the camera so that it missed Sam's nose completely. *snap* "Thank you!"

Elizabeth thought about it for a moment. "In the form of cookies or other baked goods next time I make them?" she suggested.
