Outside Meerkat cabin, morning (before classes)

Buffy was sitting by the camp fire, absently doodling hearts in her notebook while thinking things over. Later she would go shopping for a nice pretty mobile with Alec, but right now she was thinking serious thoughts.

Hopefully she wouldn't be stuck with them all day.

She was definitely disturbable.

Finishing his walk around the campsite, Sam made his way past the Meerkat cabin, and smiled when he saw Buffy. "Hey, good morning," he called.

Buffy brightened. "Hey Sam! How're you?"

"Awake far earlier than I should be, considering I have no workshops today." He laughed. "How are you?"

"Better now," Buffy smiled. What she was implying wasn't really that hard to figure out. "A little confused, maybe."

Sam may have been oblivious to a lot with girls, but even he wasn't that blind, and he felt himself start to grin. "Confused about what?"

"You know how you said Dawn was my sister and I said no? Well, I was wrong. She is my sister." She looked liek her head hurt. "Except not mine. But another mes." A related thing occoured to her. "I don't think Dean wants to be my brother."

That really did sound confusing, and not just because it was Buffy saying it. "I guess that's kind of like how Dawn and Giles know each other, but they're not the same person they each know? You're right, it really is confusing. But hey, now you have a sister here, so that's got to be sort of cool, right?"

He snickered. "Did you tell Dean you want him to be your brother?" Sam can only imagine how well that must have gone.

"I don't know if it's cool yet. I'm thinking about it," Buffy explained. "I guess it could be? We could, like, do girly things? And she's not really my sister..." she trailed off, deciding to think about it more later.

She gave Sam a big grin at the memory of her talk with Dean. "Yes, I did. I don't think he understood. He kept telling me that he was your brother."

Buffy liked Dean, but she thought he was a little slow sometimes.

"Well, Dean is my brother. Not like Dawn's sort of your sister, but like, really my brother," Sam replied, wondering if he'd lost Buffy somewhere along the way.

"I know that." Buffy looked amused. She reached up, aiming a gentle pat towards his thigh. "I was joking. Maybe I should work on my 'Ha Ha Kidding!' face."

Gentle or not, that pat was still in a place where girls' hands generally didn't go, but Sam did his best to not show it.

"No, I should have realized you were kidding. I'm sorry Dean doesn't want to be your brother," he said, smirking. "But maybe that's for the best. You should only take on so many new siblings at one time."

"Very good point," Buffy agreed. Her hand lingered in place for a moment, then she lowered it into her lap again. "A bigger little sister and a bigger big brother at the same time might be a bit much. Hey, are you going to the ~~handwavily announced~~ luau tonight?"

Sam shrugged a little. "I was thinking about it. Are you going to go?"

"Maybe. If someone I liked was going." Buffy looked down, blushing a little. Because now? There was definite shyness.

Sam might not have completely gotten the hint, but he got enough of one that he looked down as well, smiling to himself before taking a deep breath.

"Well, you should definitely go. Maybe you and I could go together?"

No, the fact that he was asking out Dawn's sister was not lost on him, but it certainly wasn't his primary concern at the moment.

Buffy looked up, beaming happily. "I'd like that!"

Yay! A date! With Sam who was cute!

This day was already awesome.

Sam was now officially two for two on the whole "asking a girl on a date" thing. Maybe it wasn't as hard as he'd thought it would be.

"Great," Sam replied, grinning back at Buffy. "I think it'll be fun."

"I'm sure it will be," Buffy agreed. "Should we just meet up by the fire or something?"

"I think that'll work. Hopefully the weather will hold up, and we won't get poured on by rain."

Buffy shrugged. "It could be fun even with rain. It was pouring down yesterday, but I had lots of fun when Alec took me for a ride on ~~Fred Prince the flying wonder Angelina~~ the speeder."

Despite his best efforts, Sam couldn't help but get a mental image of what Buffy might look like wet.

"Hmmm, maybe a little rain wouldn't be such a bad thing after all," he said.

Remembering Cam's idea for photography workshop, Buffy smiled and said, "Swinging in the rain! Or, limboing in the rain, I guess. Hmm. Could get muddy, that."

That didn't do much to help bring Sam's mind back from a dirty place, but he was trying.

"That sounds like just the kind of fun that people like to have around here," he said, laughing.

Buffy giggled. "It really does! Hey, maybe that could be a bonding activity for me and Dawn! So she knows I don't hate her. 'Cause I don't."

Buffy and Dawn, wet and muddy.

It was a miracle that Sam's eyes only widened and didn't pop right out of his head.

"That would be nice. Um, to let Dawn know that you don't hate her, because that's really important."
