Basketball Practice, Gym, Friday Afternoon

There are basketballs. There's a shiny court. There are two stacks of t-shirts, one solid blue, one solid gold, and signs asking players to pick a color and pull it on.

It's time to practice.

[OOC: Please to wait for OCD's up, go nuts.]

"I think I'm perfectly comfortable with a little more ink in service of being correct."

"Oh, sure, but did you ever ask squid their opinion on the subject?"

"Squid?" Peter shook his head. "One can make ink out of berries and minerals and such as well. They don't generally have an opinion. Then accuracy can be attained without hurting the marine animal."

"They don't milk squid for ink?" Willow asked, honestly curious.

"I suppose they could," Peter said. "We don't at home." He paused. "Though in all fairness, I've never made ink so I can't be certain."

"You know, I always suspected Jesse made that up but he kept insisting they didn't put it into books because it would make little kids cry if they heard about the horrible treatment animals get at squid farms," Willow said.

"Squid farms?" Now Peter was chuckling. "Like farms of pools holding squids waiting to be milked for their ink?"

"Maybe?" Willow admitted, sheepishly.

"Seriously?" He bumped Willow with his shoulder. "Think you might have been put on?"

"He was really convicing!" Willow said, pouting a little.

"I'm sure he was," Peter replied, stifling the grin that really wanted to appear.

"Okay, granted I couldn't figure out how fish had udders..."

Re: Watch!

Peter burst out laughing.

"Well the whole point is that they're not mammals!" Willow said. "But I figured, you know, most mammals don't make ink either..."

"Didn't you ever use milk as a kid to write in 'secret code'?" Peter asked with a grin. "Granted, Ed and I only tried it once because Susan told Mum, but it can work."

Re: Watch!

[identity profile] willbedone.livejournal.com 2006-06-03 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
Willow's face lit up. "I did! And lemon juice? And you heat it up by the toaster to see the secret message?"

Re: Watch!

[identity profile] once-a-king.livejournal.com 2006-06-03 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
"Err, not really. We used Mum's iron to heat it up. And didn't realise we put the paper on one of Lucy's dresses. It ended badly."

Re: Watch!

[identity profile] willbedone.livejournal.com 2006-06-03 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh dear," Willow said with a sympathetic laugh. "Oh, did you ever make up those codes where you wrap the piece of paper around the pen?"

Re: Watch!

[identity profile] once-a-king.livejournal.com 2006-06-03 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
"I don't think so," Peter said. "How'd you do that?"

Re: Watch!

[identity profile] willbedone.livejournal.com 2006-06-03 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
"You get a slip of paper and wrap it around a pen," Willow said, miming this. "Then you write what you what you want to say across it. That way when it's unwrapped nobody can read it because it's a jumble of letters. But when you wrap it again you can see the message."

Re: Watch!

[identity profile] once-a-king.livejournal.com 2006-06-03 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, very nice!" Peter said with enthusiasm. "We would have loved that. Did you still have radio shows about spies and could send away for a decoder ring to receive messages from the show?"

Re: Watch!

[identity profile] willbedone.livejournal.com 2006-06-03 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
"Changed to TV," Willow said, happy that he'd liked the pen trick. "Saturday morning cartoons, and you'd usually get the decoder stuff in boxes of cereal."

Re: Watch!

[identity profile] once-a-king.livejournal.com 2006-06-03 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
Peter considered this. "TV's a good replacement then. I can't complain about that."

"Have you seen Bitter Woman yet?" Willow asked.
